You stared at the computer screen for what felt like an hour. Your hand sat on the mouse, cursor hovering over the “buy now” button. The only thing stopping you from clicking was your indecision. On the screen were a pair of decorative daggers. The steel blades were thin and sharp. The handles were made of a special material painted green and had intricate gold patterns. The were defiantly beautiful and would make a great gift for a certain God of Mischief.
Despite time not mattering in the TVA, but in the Sacred Timeline, a special day was coming up, Loki’s birthday was coming up. So you and Mobius both decided to get gifts for your coworker and friend. Well, for Mobius anyway. Even before Loki arrived at the TVA, you had a bit of a crush on him. All of the research you had done on his history pulled on your heartstrings. His story of begin abandoned by his birth parents, then raised by a father who preferred his biological son over Loki. It also helped that he was handsome as well. But you kept those feelings to yourself as you joined Mobius and Loki on their adventures. In fact, you hoped that getting Loki a gift for his birthday would help the prince discover your feelings for him. Maybe even leading him to confess his love for you. That was the dream anyway.
You were suddenly brought out of your thoughts by Mobius as he spoke to you. “Hey, those look great. Are those what you’re getting Loki?” You turned back to look at you mustached coworker. Coffee cup in his hand, he leaned over to look at the computer screen. You shook you head. “I’m not sure. Yeah they look perfect for him, but I don’t know if they are.” You turned back to the computer screen as Mobius straightened up and took a sip of his coffee. “You know what? I think I’m gonna look for something else,” you said as you got up from your desk. “I think there’s something better out there.” As you walked away, you could hear Mobius saying, “Well, can I get him these?”
Later on, you found yourself in the archives. Standing at a table with multiple files lying open. You were looking at Loki’s files to get a better idea of what would be a perfect gift. Nothing was really calling out to you. Turning over a page, a certain blue cube caught your eye. Loki did have a fascination for it. Even sought after it many times. Tesseracts, as well as the other Infinity Stones, were easy to come by. But they no longer worked, having been made unusable by the TVA. The only was to get an actual working Tesseract would be in one of the timelines. If that’s what you had to do, you were willing to do it. Getting out your tempad, you put in the coordinates and stepped through the time door.
You stepped out of the time door into the Asgardian palace. Moments before disaster struck. You wondered the dark halls for a few minutes. The glow of a blue light caught your eye. You entered the treasures room and headed straight for the Tesseract. Carefully, you opened the case and grabbed the glowing cube, the power pulsing through your fingertips. You could understand why Loki liked holding it. Looking around to make sure no one was watching you, you opened a time door. But just before you could step through, the sound of near by voices stopped you in your tracks.
One voice you knew right away. Loki’s sultry voice came from right outside the doorway along with a louder, more boastful voice. You recognized it as Thor’s. The two brothers were discussing their plan to kick off Ragnarok in order to stop Hela. As they talked, there was a sadness as they realized they were going to lose their home and everything they knew. It was in that moment, you realized that the Tesseract wasn’t the perfect gift for Loki. Closing the time door, you carefully placed the blue cube back in its rightful place. Then on the tempad, you typed in a new date. Once the new time door opened, you stepped through. Luckily just in time before Loki walked into the room.
Once again you found yourself in the Asgardian palace. But this time the surroundings were vibrant and full of life. The shining sun causing the golden walls to glow. You took in a breath of fresh air. It was nice being somewhere that wasn’t a stuffy office like the TVA. Or somewhere that was full of death and despair. But you couldn’t enjoy it for long, you were on a personal mission.
After wondering the halls, you made your way to the balcony overlooking the courtyard. There, you finally found who you were looking for, Queen Frigga, Loki’s mother. You stood in the shadows and observed her. She was beautiful, just like Loki’s described her. He would tell you about how he missed her the most. And you never felt it was fair that he was blamed for her death in the Sacred Timeline. You were brought out of your thoughts by a female voice calling out to you. “You know it’s not polite to stare, child.” That’s when you noticed Frigga staring right at you. Your cover was blown, so you sheepishly stepped into the light. “S-sorry, your highness,” you stammered as you gave a small bow. “Did you think I didn’t know you were there?” She asked sternly. “I was raised by witches, child.” She then looked you up and down. “By your clothes I’d say you’re not from Asgard. Who are you?” You swallowed. “My name is Y/N. I’m from the Time Variance Authority,” you explained as you showed her your tempad. She still looked at you suspiciously. “And what business do you have here in Asgard?” “I know your son, Loki,” you answered honestly. You brought up a picture of Loki at the TVA and you could see her features soften. Her guard was coming down. “Actually,” you continued, “I have a favor to ask you.” After explaining your situation, you and Frigga came up with a plan.
Finally, the special day arrived on the Sacred Timeline, Loki’s birthday. Luckily for you, it was a slow day. Waiting until you knew you were alone, you opened a time door and Queen Frigga stepped through. You each gave each other a polite greeting. “Well, are you ready?” You asked as the nerves were already starting to get to you. The queen nodded, “Of course.” She then gave a soft smile and gently placed a hand on your cheek. You couldn’t help but lean into the touch. Her hand was soft and warm, very much like a mother’s should be. “Thank you,” she said, “for giving him such a wonderful gift. I know he will appreciate it as well.”
You led the queen into the office and towards Loki’s desk. Mobius was already there as Loki opened his gift, the decorative daggers. The trickster god was too distracted to notice the two of you walking up. “Thank you, Mobius, these are very nice,” he said as he held one in his hand. “You’re welcome,” Mobius replied, “I just saw those and thought, ‘those would be perfect for Loki’.” That’s when the older looking man noticed you. “Oh hey, Y/N-“ he had to do a double take when he saw who was next to you. Loki finally lifted his head toward you. “Hello, Y/N,” he too stopped when he saw Frigga. “Mother,” he said in surprise as he slowly stood up, “ how are you here?” “Your friend,” Frigga nodded toward you, “invited me here. She wanted to surprise you.” She then looked at the daggers. “My, those are quite lovely.”
Loki and his mother walked off together so they could talk and catch up. You stayed behind with Mobius who warned you about the consequences of your actions. But you didn’t care. You were proud in knowing you gave Loki the perfect gift, more time with his mother.
After their visit, the prince hugged his mother and said a tearful goodbye before she walked through the time door one last time. Once the door disappeared, it was just you and him. There was a long silence, then he spoke up. “Y/N?” “Yes?” You simply said as you turned to him. He was looking right at you and your heart pounded. He was beautiful in this moment. “Thank you,” he responded, “for giving me time with her.” His voice was soft as he tried to compose himself. A smile spread across your face. “You’re welcome.” Then his tone shifted as a smirk appeared on his face. “During our conversation, you came up. Mother said her intuition told her that you may have feelings for me.” The smile disappeared as a blush appeared in its place on your face. “S-she did?” Loki let out a small chuckle at your reaction. “She did. And she also gave her blessing for me to court you.” Your blush grew deeper and your heart started beating faster. “L-like getting married?” The prince chuckled again. “We don’t have to go that far yet.” He then reached out and grabbed your hand. “For now, I would love for you to accompany me in getting key lime pie.” You secretly hoped he couldn’t feel how sweaty you palm was as you smiled and nodded. “Yes, I would love to accompany you.” With that, the two of you walked to the TVA break room to get key lime pie together.
