Work Text:
Something felt off when he woke that morning.
Call it the sixth sense, call it recognition of a pattern, or perhaps he just had a knack for knowing what kind of day it was going to be. All that Pain knew was that when he opened his eyes, everything was peaceful in the hideout in Amegakure.
Far too peaceful.
It immediately puts him on edge. A normal person might consider this an overreaction, but Pain knows the people he brought into this organization; a quiet morning usually spelt some form of trouble, a mess he would have to go and clean up.
Slowly he moved off the bed, taking a moment to look at the reflection of the body he possessed. He takes a minute to fix the short spiky orange hair before he goes to the door to open it—
BOOM!!!
…
“Whoooooa…”
“Seee, hm? I told you it would get them all crawling out from their little hiding places, hm!”
“Man you really outdid yourself this time, blondie. Hahhahahaha look at them run around! Like chickens with their heads cut off!”
“Let’s see if I can make more of them come out!”
Just outside the base, stood two of the younger members of the Akatsuki; the blonde artist from Iwagakure, Deidara and the devout religious killer, Hidan. While the pair did tend to have their moments of arguing, they would seek each other out to ease the boredom of waiting to be sent out on missions. This morning was one of those attempts to ease boredom as Deidara sent his smallest little clay explosions, the ones shaped like little spiders, into the rocky crevices.
“Just don’t let any fly this way, all right? I don't need your partner giving me a bunch of shots again, I swear Kakuzu thinks I don’t know how to stay healthy!” Hidan huffed as he pushed some of his messy silver hair behind his head.
“Don’t worry so much, hmm. Besides I made them small enough that they’ll scare anyone trying to worm their way into the hideout, hmm. They’re already running for the hills!” Deidara cackled as he pointed after said hideaways, “See?! Look at those fools! Scared by some loud explosives that won’t even be enough to kill them, hmm!”
Hidan snorted, “I mean…would anyone really miss them if we killed them?”
“I mean yeah, but Pain would be pissed if we got blood on the floors again and will make us clean it all up, hmm.”
“Tch. Killjoy,” Hidan grumbled but then he snorted when another explosion went off and more of those people thinking they could sneak into the hideout were running. He can tell by their uniforms they’re only genin ranked adults.
Whatever made them bold enough to think they could just break in seemed to make them quite stupid. Hidan crossed his arms a moment as Deidara’s hands chewed up more clay that he then began to shape and mold.
“Hey, wanna see if they can handle something bigger, hmm?” He grinned at Hidan.
The zealot perked up before his own grin split his face, “You bet I fucking do, man…!”
Deidara snickered as he then greeted a flock of claw birds…and then he sent them flying down at the trespassers. With them being bigger than the spiders he used, the explosions were also bigger; sending water erupting upwards as those men and women continued to try to outrun them. Some shout and slip, falling back and getting completely drenched while others are trying to run faster, screaming about being under attack.
Which…well they weren’t exactly wrong, but Deidara wasn’t trying to kill them, just giving them a great scare was all. He laughed when another slipped and fell when another explosion happened close to them and covered them in water.
“Haaa! That’s right, marvel and watch my beautiful art as it burns bright into nothingness and that I’m letting you live to do so—”
Both he and Hidan jumped when the door behind them leading into the base was harshly kicked open. They turned to see who was coming to interrupt their fun, Hidan looking irritated while the blonde artist turned his gaze away from making more birds.
Deidara loses all color in his face when he sees Sasori standing there; dark paint splattered all over his chest while the paint around his eyes was completely smudged and crooked as if he had struggled to keep a steady hand.
Behind him, in a long sleeping gown with his brown hair in a silk night cap and for once no mask was Kakuzu who had his sleeping eye mask pushed up and growling low in his throat. A wet stain covered the shoulders and chest of his attire that smelled like the herbal tea he usually enjoyed in the morning.
“What…in the five great nations are you idiots doing?!” Kakuzu snapped angrily.
Hidan scowled and lightly kicked the ground like an impudent child who got caught stealing candy from someone else, “..Just chasing off some intruders is all, don’t get your panties in a twist…”
Sasori stalked forwards, his puppet back clicking in a way that made Deidara gulp. Even if he claimed not to feel emotions as humans do, he knew his danna was not pleased with him; he took touch ups of the paint he uses very seriously after all!
“...Those are the intruders?” Sasori looked past Deidara as he spoke, a brow raised.
“Y…yeah, danna, un! Those guys were trying to get in and Hidan and I decided to scare them off with some explosives, hmm! You should have seen it danna, my spiders and my birds really sent them ru–”
Kakuzu cut him off with a huff, “You realize those genin are being trained by Konan right?”
Both Hidan and Deidara froze where they stood and looked slowly back at the group they had been sending the clay explosives after. Deidara used his scope to get a closer look now and then he let out a wheeze when he saw the sigil of Amegakure on their headbands.
“She was recruiting some new shinobi to help guard Ame so that we could go on more missions,” Sasori added, putting a hand on his hip, “Pain was looking forwards to have extra hands work for us…but seeing as they are running as far away as possible to get out of this place…”
“And you both made the base shake and woke everyone up, I would say you’re going to be in deep shit,” Kakuzu hissed.
Hidan and Deidara slowly looked at each other as they could practically feel the sense of doom weighing on them. They just wanted to have a little fun and instead they may have just pissed off one of the strongest and scariest members of the Akatsuki.
Because if Konan is angry then Pain is angry.
“...Hidan…how did you get immortal again, hmm?”
“Devoting myself to Jashin, why?”
“...I think I’m ready to hear about your religion now.”
