Chapter Text
Pov—?
My existence began from deep beneath.
Ever since my awakening from down below the earth, my rise to the dark surface of our cave-home, living amongst the Matriarch and my siblings as the youngest, following their daily traditions I’ve come to a conclusion that…
Life is dry.
Wake up. Eat. Drink. Sleep in cave nest.
Over.
And over.
And over.
Within these time period was when I first took notice of this unquenchable thirst…for something.
At first I believed it to be lack of water.
I try the next day.
It wasn’t.
I ask the Matriarch to provide more sustenance.
The thirst persists.
Days continued passing, the thirst still goes unanswered.
Not only was it still festering… it was rising.
That moment I pleaded towards the Matriarch seemed to been the catalyst for its growth.
It was irritating. Living with aching within my skin was deeply unsatisfying. It bothered me day and night, wondering what could’ve been the cause for it and if could truly have any sort of answer to get rid of this nuisance.
Until in one particular day the answer would come for me instead.
While we were resting inside cave-home something large made itself known throughout the cave-home.
*thump…*
*thump…*
It reminded me of the Matriarch’s approach by how similar it felt. The ground slightly shifting alerting all residents inside cave-home of the upcoming sustenance.
But I was wrong.
*Thump…*
*Thump…*
Whatever it was it seemed to be getting bigger.
The soil beneath my feet seemed to not only shift but seemingly shake in this new this new presence entering its domain.
*Thump…*
*Thump…*
My siblings seemed to had reached some kind of comprehension at this incoming Beast drawing closer to our exact location.
“He’s here” “He’s arrived” “Father” they whispered amongst themselves as if those were sufficient explanations to this moment.
*THUMP*
*THUMP*
As it finally arrived at our cave-home I finally managed to catch a glimpse at out approaching mountain.
*THUMP THUMP!!!*
He stopped his approach right in front of us and as he did I was still serving my he upward to spot his face without falling amongst the tremors running through everything.
If asked what the young rock’s skinned opinion of both his sibling, Mother and Father it would go: Jokes, Big and Big Big.
According to his siblings, mother is said to be bigger than most amongst their race.
Father was a walking mountain.
I couldn’t help myself but gaze upon his figure.
His steps never hurried, carried a weight of strength so heavy it was incomprehensible to the young rock’s mind. Larger than his own mother by at least three heads and an armor so strong it almost seemed like a weapon. His armor shone brightly despite the faint small scars around it, so small they were barely noticeable at first glance. At first glance you’d think he was practically untouchable… yet there was only one scar that it was no the case.
The scariest one was around his Father’s eye. Three claw marks on the left side of his face, around the eye yet not entirely claiming the eye to death, that was the scar which truly showed how strong his progenitor was to only have one troublesome scar and how unlikely victory would be for his victims.
In life his Mother explained there were three important things mostly everyone in the wild worried for: Food, The pack and Survival.
The forest carried with it Food and Water. While water was never truly limited, food some time was.
Not for themselves but others try to claim
After all this time, for his father to have only one notable scar showed why he was the truly was the Alpha of the mountains
Father, with a neutral face, stares down for at all of us for a few moments.
In the corner of my eye I spot all of my siblings hitch their breaths and tense at the sudden attention but I keep my full attention towards him as if he could finally provide the correct sustenance required.
As Father seems satisfied and turns to leave the thirst grew into an itch spread everywhere like an awaken parasite. It felt gross, disgusting, not right. He deserved better, it was his right ascend to heights of the height of his progenitors.
So before young rock made up his mind spoke his first words towards his recently returned Father…
”hungry…”
That slipped out.
Pathetic.
The Tyrant stops and as he does the air grows sharper as the sound of rock clashing bounces around cave-home. A grumble of annoyance as he barely glances at my pathetic self.
”Get your own sustenance, boy.”
After he said his piece he heads back from wherever he came from… but I wasn’t done.
Ever since gazing at my progenitor, being under his presence for the first time the thirst came back full force. It resulted in not only body aching but my entire being was showered in aching deeper than even my stomach could reach. A feeling, almost primal in want, he had yet acknowledged but which will linger in the front of my mind for ever more.
So the little Rock
And finally came up with a realization of his what this thirst really was.
It’s Hunger.
An insatiable hunger for something deeper than substance.
A hunger for more.
A hunger for something outside of this dull lifestyle, coddled due to just being kin of the Patriarch of the Family and Alpha of the forest that drowned his entire self.
For an armor so thick only scratches could scar.
For a respect so deep the world bows in submission in your wake.
To obtain such glares so deep they could pierce your enemies.
For steps so heavy they claimed territories.
He wants it.
No, it is his birthright.
He would have it all, otherwise he would never be truly full.
So he repeats himself to the only one who satiate it.
“I.am.Hungry.”
My progenitor freezes once and this time turns to face me. His stare seems to…lighten somehow, like one of those stares his mother would make in recognition. The were more emotions he could notice from it yet not name, he would almost call it respe-
“Follow, little boulder.”
Father finally leaves home-nest.
I glanced at my siblings and their pale like they’ve seen wild ghosts staring directly at me.
They didn’t matter so I push forward anyway following Father’s stomping.
