Chapter 1: Beach Day

Chapter Text

___

Hope’s Peak was a school only for the best of the best, those who were special, those who were superior to others in their respective fields. Even if they were this special, in reality they were still kids. Kids with normal lives, kids with dreams, kids with crushes. Well, maybe not ‘normal’ lives. After all, they're Ultimates, they study in the best school in all of Japan. Normal would be an insult to their achievements.

Aoi sat on one of the chairs in the pool room, drying herself off after swimming. Even if it was the summer, Hope's Peak allowed, and even encouraged students to use the facilities during the break. She planned to meet with Sakura and go out for donuts so Aoi was very excited. The two recently got together and this would be their 3rd date. Aoi stood up once she finished drying herself off. She smiled and went to the pool locker room so she could change and meet up with Sakura.

___

Aoi finished getting ready, having changed into her usual outfit. She grabbed her bag and made her way out of the locker room and went to the front of the school. She got onto her phone, tapping her phone anxiously awaiting Sakura. Soon she heard footsteps from behind her and she turned around seeing Sakura walking towards her. “Sorry Hina, Nekomaru and I lost track of time. I hope you haven’t been waiting too long?” Sakura spoke calmly as she made her way to Aoi, stopping in front of her. Sakura quietly checked over her, making sure she wasn’t hurt.

Aoi smiled and pulled Sakura into a hug. “No worries! I didn’t wait too long, I got out a bit late as well.” She laughed and Sakura smiled faintly at the warm embrace of her girlfriend. She hugged Aoi back before letting her go. “So, donuts?” Aoi said with a grin on her face, clearly excited for the sweet treat. Sakura nodded, finding her enthusiasm adorable. “Yay! I’ve been waiting all day you know!” Aoi exclaimed, grabbing Sakura’s hand and dragging her along to the donut shop they frequented.

Aoi talked about a lot of things that happened during her day, often pausing to let Sakura share her day as well. The two didn’t walk far until arriving at their destination, the donut shop. Aoi rushed in excitedly wanting to grab her favorites to share with Sakura. Sakura trailed behind watching as her girlfriend excitedly ordered her donuts, which were probably her second favorite thing next to Sakura herself.

Aoi was jumping on her heels as the cashier handed her the box of donuts. Aoi turned to Sakura and smiled excitedly, “Come on, we can eat them on our way to the beach, or we can go get lunch, or or-”. Aoi listed ideas off before pausing and looking at Sakura who had her arms crossed, clearly amused by Aoi’s excitement. “So? You like any of those ideas?” She asked, hoping mainly for the beach, after all, it was another excuse to swim.

Sakura nodded, “The beach sounds nice, I’ll follow you.” she said, giving Aoi the green light. Aoi beamed and walked back towards Sakura, who took the box of donuts from her. Aoi opened the box, grabbing one for herself, and then Sakura. This way, they could eat some on the way to the beach. “On the way back, I’d like to get some protein coffee or powder.” Sakura added and Aoi nodded as they both left for the beach.

They arrived at the beach after a long train ride, they didn’t often go to the beach, which was why Aoi was so excited. They arrived on the beach, realizing neither of them had packed anything for the beach. “Aw, I totally forgot we needed sunscreen and towels. This is a total bust.” Aoi sighed as she finished the last donut and Sakura threw away the empty donut box in a nearby trashcan.

Sakura put her hand on Aoi’s shoulder to comfort her girlfriend, “Hina it’ll be fine. We can buy some at the convenience store or we can just not stay too long. You have your swimsuit in your bag so you can swim.” Sakura explained, Aoi looked in her hands, finally remembering her bag. She laughed and put it on the ground and looked through it, pulling out sunscreen.

“Aha! I didn’t forget about this, well, maybe but, I remember it now!” She exclaimed her mood shifting back to excitement. Sakura smiled, happy that Aoi wasn’t as upset anymore. Sakura helped Aoi search through her bag, finding a single towel and some other supplies that weren’t too helpful. Aoi held the towel and sunscreen in her lap just relieved this wasn’t a total waste of a trip.

Sakura packed up Aoi’s bag and put it over her shoulder. “Come on, I’ll help you with your sunscreen.” Sakura spoke up, making Aoi look up at her. She smiled and stood up and followed Sakura to the bathrooms. Aoi walked out of the changing room in her bathing suit. Sakura smiled and waved Aoi over, she came over and sat down so Sakura could start applying sunscreen. Sakura opened the bottle, which was almost out, but had enough for the both of them. She applied it to Aoi’s back, legs, arms, face and neck and handed it to Aoi so she could do the same for Sakura.

The two spent the day at the beach, meeting people, building sandcastles, swimming, playing volleyball, and so much more. Aoi had met someone with a pet crab named Baxter, who was just the cutest, Aoi and that person had gotten along. Shame that Aoi didn’t get their, or their partner’s name. When the sun finally started to set it was time for Sakura and Aoi to say goodbye to the beach and possibly come back another time during their break. They still had to pick up some stuff from the store, so getting back was a good idea, especially with an hour-long train ride ahead of them.

___

They finally arrived back in Tokyo after the long train ride. They first made sure to buy protein powder, sunscreen and other things before heading back to the school. They walked through the halls, Aoi talking excitedly like usual when they passed by Byakuya and Makoto talking in front of Byakuya’s door. Aoi wanted to figure out what was going on, but Sakura quietly told her to pay them no mind. Before Aoi could respond Makoto entered Byakuya’s room and the door locked.

“If you're curious you can ask Makoto in the morning, though, get sleep Hina. If you’d like, you can join me and Nekomaru for training.” Sakura whispered, Aoi nodded and smiled. She was nosy, especially since it had to do with Byakuya.

Aoi turned towards Sakura and kissed her on the cheek before heading off into her room for the night.
