Chapter 1: Dossier

Chapter Text

Nanami reads your dossier.

The turnover rate of assistants was high.

Nanami’s previous assistant had submitted his resignation letter even before he completed a month. As expected, the remaining term fell back onto him, a minor disappointment again.

Really.

It was inefficient.

He exhales quietly as he looks at the dossier left on his desk.

Another assistant.

Another that would most likely resign under a month. Not that he blamed them, working at Tokyo Jujutsu High also meant risking your life. Compensation did not always justify it but for a man like him, money was everything.

He planned to reach his retirement goal then move to a low cost country and read his books in peace.

He sets the dossier aside for now, prioritizing brewing his tea. He had just finished preparing mission plans and theory lessons on cursed spirits. One should always optimize their break time.

No workload should hinder that.

He pulls down his glasses and sets it aside, a long exhale escapes his lips as he flips to the first page. He briefly glances at the photograph attached before directing back his attention to the details.

Dossiers of new recruits were usually evaluated first by Kiyotaka Ijichi before reaching his desk. What he knew regarding recruits was that they were endorsed by the higher ups and were assigned to different prefectures as they deemed fit

If the dossier even reached his desk, then it was most probable that the recruit aligned with his work ethics. He silently notes that Gojo Satoru rarely gets an assistant..

He reads in silence.

Name: (Y/N) Imori

Age: 26

Sex: Female

Clan: Imori

Rank: Semi Grade 2

Cursed energy reserve: Abundant

Cursed techniques: Aegis Veil and Umbra Grasp - both clan techniques, none self learned.

Aegis Veil - Protective barriers placed during battle

Umbra Grasp - Shadow restrictions

Umbra Grasp technique works only within 10 meters of the user. Only living beings are subjected to it, it manifests through shadows generated by targets.

Restriction duration: 10 seconds

Reapplication: 20 seconds

Not recommended for Curse Spirits Grade 1 above.

“A restricting technique will be efficient in battle.”

Nanami nods approvingly.

No first years will be assigned to higher grade level cursed spirits anyway.

Physical Prowess: 15/100

Nanami pauses.

His gaze lingers on the number longer than necessary.

He recalls Ijichi once again, not physically capable, but certainly not deployed in a combat environment.

This assistant would be.

He sets down the paper briefly. He feels a migraine coming.

He resumes reading.

Aegis Veil is a barrier technique casted through Umbra Grasp. Talismans are written by the shadow entity and the barrier forms. Reapplication takes time.

Durable enough to withstand one fatal hit from a Grade 2 cursed spirit.

Nanami mentally simulates a mock battle.

Barrier deployment. Fatal damage mitigation.

A barrier for each student to prevent fatal damage was smart, it lessens the death toll for first years who were yet to get more experience.

It is effective.

On paper, that is.

But what use was that if the supporter was as flimsy as a tree branch?

He exhales quietly. Tea already forgotten.

He understood that the higher ups were finding ways to curtail unnecessary death, but this assistant would most likely be the first to perish.

His eyes flicks back to the physical prowess.

15/100

He flips the page and further reads on.

Ijichi’s familiar handwritten note was scribbled on the side:

Barriers and restriction techniques will be efficient for the first year missions. I would suggest that the assistant remain within arm’s reach of the mentor as much as possible - for protection.

A vein formed on his forehead.

The assistant is supposed to be there to protect the students, not be protected! He internally rants.

Assessment: Semi Grade 2

Recommendation: 7/10

“Semi Grade 2? 7/10? On nonexistent physical prowess?” Nanami frowns.

He closes his eyes briefly.

A minute passes, he simply blanks his mind, processing the absurdity.

Another five minutes passes by and finally, Nanami slowly flips back the page to stare at the new recruit’s image.

A girl whose smile doesn't quite reach her eyes.

Exhale.

He lingers on this detail longer than necessary.

Why did he feel like his workload was increasing instead of decreasing?

He carefully closes the file and exhales, losing count of how many he had done so in the past hour.

Despite the seemingly underwhelming recruit’s skills, he needed all the help he could get.

What only concerns him was how long this one would last.
