Work Text:
“Dashi, can you get me something to drink too?”
Yamaguchi gave a thumbs up while heading into the kitchen.
Hinata snuggled into Kageyama’s side, now that Yamaguchi wasn’t next to him anymore, he had to find somebody else to cuddle with, at least until Tadashi came back. Kageyama didn’t even really acknowledge the smaller one, only putting an arm around his shoulders while continuing to bicker with Tsuki about the movie he picked.
“Really? Jurassic Park. Again?” Kageyama rested his chin on Tsuki’s shoulder, looking up at the blonde with a teasing look on his face, “Don’t you have it memorized by now?”
“It’s a great movie, ok!” This was about the millionth time that Kei had to justify his movie choice to them. It was almost tradition now, at least once a month they had a movie night at Tsukishima’s house and watched one of his dinosaur movies.
They all could probably talk along to at least half of Kei's movies by now but all their complaining wasn't anything more than a bit of teasing. Hinata had to admit that it was endearing to see how into them Tsukishima could get at times, he also didn't have anything against a slow evening just cuddling with his boyfriends.
Yamaguchi eventually came back with two glasses in hand, he put them on the coffee table before sitting down on Hinata's other side, who immediately adjusted his position to rest his head on the green-haired's chest.
He listened to Yamaguchi's heartbeat, the sound almost drowned out the noises coming from the TV when he concentrated on it. It was calming and made him sleepy every time, the others always joked about it, claiming that it was the most efficient –and sometimes the only– way they could get Hinata to calm down.
He was extremely tired by the time that the movie ended, whining when Tadashi told him to stand up. "Keiiiii", he whined after Yamaguchi's comfortable warmth disappeared from his side, giving him a look of total betrayal because how dare he just get up.
"Yes, sunshine?" Hinata stretched his arms towards the taller one, "Carry me." Tsukishima huffed out a laugh, but picked him up regardless, there had to be some perks of having three giants as his boyfriends after all, "You're so spoiled, Kageyama babied you way too much"
"Why is that my fault now, you're not any better", Kageyama shot back as he wrapped Yamaguchi up in his arms. "Well, look at him! How could you not?", Hinata snuggled into Tsuki's neck, only accentuating the blonde's point. He had never liked when people treated him like a little kid that couldn't do anything on his own —he was the oldest of the four of them after all— but his boyfriends carrying him had never felt like they belittled him, it was a gesture of pure affection and trust to them.
"Hypocrite", Yamaguchi mumbled his head rested on Kageyama's shoulder, a soft smile decorated his lips as he watched his boyfriends bicker. Tsuki huffed again but didn't say anything in return, he knew that it was true.
Hinata was almost asleep by now, barely registering anything they were talking about. Tsukishima slightly shifted Shoyo in his arms to have a better grip on him, suddenly Hinata felt a small ache in his chest. Fuck. He was still wearing his binder.
It hurt, he was wearing it for way too long already. But he also didn't want to take it off, he hadn't told them yet, it would be weird if he went to the bathroom to change now, he was already wearing a pair of shorts and one of Tsukishima's hoodies that he was planning to sleep in.
And what if they noticed?
They'd probably accept him, right?
Right?
He came out and transitioned in his first year of middle school, and even before that, most people had always thought that he was a boy when they first met him and he had never bothered to correct them so most didn't know about it anyways. But he feared that people would view him differently if they found out, especially now that he's in a relationship. Would they still be with him if they knew?
Surely they would… right?
Now wasn't the time to think about that or he would start to cry and that would cause a mess. Wearing the binder until tomorrow would probably be okay.
Probably…
They had laid out some futons prior so they could just go to bed now without having to bother with them. They had tried to all sleep in Tsuki's bed one time but that didn't go exactly as planed, the only one without back and/or neck pain the next day was Shoyo, one of the times where being short comes in clutch. Somehow Kageyama had ended up on the floor, so yeah they didn't repeat that again.
Somehow Tsukishima managed to lie down with the smaller still in his arms, because god forbid he ever let go of him for just a second. Though he couldn't really complain, not when Shoyo looked so cute lying on his chest. The weight of any of his boyfriends was calming to him, almost like a weighted blanket.
Kageyama lied down next to him after tugging at Tsuki's arm to get it in just the right way to be as close to them both as possible. He placed his head on the blonde's shoulder, the space just enough for him to get comfortable. Tsukishima's arm would definitely be numb the next day, but that was a problem for future him.
Yamaguchi settled at Kageyama's side, wrapped up in an extra blanket since he gets cold really easily and the huge blanket that somehow covers them all wasn't warm enough. The fuzzy green blanket wrapped around him matched his hair almost perfectly, making him blend in almost entirely.
This was nice, he could stay like this forever, and just like that he slipped off to sleep with those thoughts in his mind.
—
The next morning they were a pile of limbs all tangled together. Hinata was up first, like most of the time. He was still on top of Tsukishima, the arms around him not letting him get away.
Tsuki wasn't a morning person at all, he has been late to practice one or two times because he couldn't get out of bed. Then on the contrary there were Hinata and Kageyama, who woke up at the crack of dawn and were already jumping about.
Hinata carefully tried to get out of the blondes arms, it was really surprising how strong his grip on the smaller was when he's asleep. It was hard to get out of it, especially since he didn't want to wake the other, Tsukishima always got grumpy when they woke him up too early.
He could feel Kageyama shift next to them, indicating that the other would also wake up soon. He twisted out of the blonde's grip and felt a sharp pain in his lungs, causing him to hiss. The binder…
He slipped off into the bathroom, his eyes took a second to adjust to the bright lights. He carefully took off the hoodie and pulled off the binder immediately after. Bright red lines stretched around his chest and back, where the seams of his binder had cut into his skin.
He knew that it was too tight for him but it was the one that made his chest the flattest and he had felt a lot more insecure about it for the last few days. It was silly but he had thought about telling the other three about it and it stressed him out more than he would've liked it to. It was probably going to be alright. They were all queer after all, but would they still like him if they knew that he was biologically a girl, especially Kageyama and Tsukishima who were both gay, as opposed to Yamaguchi who was bi.
He hated it. He hated it so much.
He didn't want to be like this!
He would give everything to not worry about this!
Tears streamed down his face as he looked into the mirror for just a second too long. Why couldn't he just be normal? Why couldn't he just been born a boy? Why couldn't he feel comfortable with the way he looked? Why him? Why couldn't he just be normal?
Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why?
He slid down the bathroom wall, his head between his knees as he quietly sobbed. He didn't want to wake the others, they would worry and he'd have to explain why he was crying. He didn't want to have to explain this. He didn't want to be like this.
He just wanted to be a normal teenage boy.
He wanted to be comfortable with his boyfriends' touches without immense episodes of dysphoria.
There was a knock at the door followed by Kageyama's voice, still laced with sleep, "Sho?"
"I'll be out in just a sec", he almost yelled back, trying to get the usual cheerfulness back into his voice. He was semi successful but the other was still half asleep, so he thankfully didn't notice the change in Hinata's demeanour. He put the binder back on, it was tight – extremely so – but he could manage.
He looked back into the mirror — his chest finally flat — and splashed a bit of water into his face to try and get rid of the puffiness around his eyes. His crying wasn't too obvious, he could probably get away with just telling them that he got soap into his eyes. He put on his school uniform before walking back out, directly into his boyfriend's arms.
It was Monday, meaning they had to go to school soon. It was still pretty early — like always — Hinata and Kageyama had woken up first. It was a routine by now, the two of them would get ready, maybe even help Tsuki's mother with breakfast before Yamaguchi woke up.
That was the easy part. Getting Tsukishima out of bead was whole other story. That guy slept like a rock. The first time they had a sleepover, Kageyama and Hinata had freaked out because they couldn't get him out of bed.
They had gotten better by now, meaning that it "only" took 15-20 minutes to wake him up. Their record was 5 minutes but only because Kageyama had dumped a whole glass of water over his head. They all agreed to not use that method on a daily basis, since it not only caused Tsuki to nearly get a heart attack but also because Tsukishima almost strangled the other after the initial shock wore off.
Yamaguchi, Kageyama and Hinata already started to eat breakfast while Tsukishima got dressed. Tobio functioned as a headrest for a still half asleep Yamaguchi as he happily munched on his sandwich.
Tsuki's arrival in the dining room was announced by a loud yawn, his arms stretched up above his head. He took a seat next to Hinata, pulling him into a loose hug. He mumbled out a barely audible "good morning" before he buried his face entirely in the bright orange hair, Hinata smiled and leaned into the touch.
"Want some cereal, Kishi?", he tried to look up at the blonde but it was futile.
He felt the grumble that followed as an answer more than he heard it, "…not hungry"
"You have to eat something, Kei", Kageyama already poured a bowl of cereal for the other, it was way less than what Hinata or Kageyama normally ate but it was better than nothing.
Tsukishima stared at the bowl of cereal for a moment, the look on his face could've made one think that that bowl of cereal had just insulted his entire bloodline and his boyfriends. He begrudgingly started to eat after Hinata had moved away, saying that he could only hug him again if he ate his breakfast.
—
The walk to school was relatively normal, Shoyo did get distracted by a squirrel running across the street but that was about it. He also found a pretty rock that was kind of shaped like a heart and gave it to Tadashi for his rock collection. The smile that spread across his face was so beautiful, it distracted him so much that he tripped over his own feet and would've stumbled onto the street if it weren't for Tsuki catching him by his arm.
Practice wasn't anything out of the ordinary either. They got into two teams and had a little match at the end of practice. They had done this so many times already, it wasn't something that caused a problem, at least it shouldn't have been.
It went the same as it always did. The ball came over the net, someone received, Kageyama set and Hinata jumped. Sometimes he hit the ball, sometimes it went to someone else, but he jumped regardless.
Over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.
He never had a problem with it, it's what he always did. Jump at every opportunity. But this time it wasn't so easy.
He felt the seams of his binder cut into his skin, the red lines that were already there only getting darker. With ever jump, every sprint, every receive, every block, every spike his breathing got heavier. His chest tightened with every movement. Less and less air streaming into his lungs. His movements were stiff and his reactions much slower than usual.
But he bit through the pain, he couldn't let his condition slow him down.
He couldn't fall behind because of it.
Tanaka jumped up at the other side of the net, his movements so full of energy, energy that Shoyo would normally outdo without even trying. The ball hit the palm of his hand and he expertly directed it out of Tsukishima's reach. A hit that was so brutal that it showed just how much Tanaka was invested in a game as irrelevant as this and Hinata was the same …. usually.
That ball would've been impossible to receive for most people, but this team wasn't most people. Especially with Nishinoya, their 'defence god'. He brought the ball back into the air, as if it was the easiest thing in the world.
The ball flew up again, landing perfectly in Tobio's hands. It was so perfect — everything was, from the spike, the receive, the set— it was obvious that it just had to go to Hinata. Their famous quick attack. It would've been perfect like this.
Shoyo was there already when the ball left Kageyama's hands, the set as precise as always, as it wandered over to the spiker, who was already in the air. His arm behind is head, waiting for the ball to reach the place they wanted it to, the one Kageyama always managed to get it to.
Shoyo felt lightheaded as he floated there up in the air, the view to the other side of the court entirely clear, no block in his way. It was perfect. The ball flew up in the air, directly in front of Shoyo. He hit the ball, putting all his strength into it. There was a loud thud at the other side of the net, where the ball hit the floor.
But he couldn't hear that anymore.
There was a ringing in his ear that had already started when he was still in the air. His head hurt so god damn much, the throbbing against his skull was unbearable. The ringing only got louder and louder until it drowned out all the cheers from the point they had just made.
He felt his feet hit the ground, a feeling that was familiar, one that he had experienced so many times already. But this time he couldn't hold himself upright, his ankles bended to the side and he collided with the hard wooden floor of the gym.
The thud of the ball hadn't even completely rung out when the one of Shoyo falling to the ground had already followed. There was a deafening silence amongst the players as the sound echoed from the walls around them.
But the silence only lasted for the blink of an second before utter chaos ensued. Hinata heard his name being called, he felt hands lightly shaking him, he sensed the lights over his head. Everything was too loud, too bright, too warm …. it was all too much.
He desperately wanted to answer, he wanted to stand back up and say that everything was fine, he wanted to continue playing as if nothing had happened, but he just…. couldn't. His legs felt like the weighed tons and moving them felt like an unachievable task. he ringing in his ears drowned out every last of the panic filled voices around him. Everything just went quiet and dark as he slowly lost consciousness.
.
.
.
Everything happened so quickly.
Hinata jumped up, his movements half a second slower than he was used to but Tsukishima ignored it. He thought that he was just being overly paranoid, he wrote it of to them going to bed pretty late, he deemed it as nothing from major importance.
He shouldn't have.
Shoyo hit Kageyama's set, like he always did. A perfect spike none of the players on the other side were able to get to in time. The blonde watched as the ball hit the ground, a feeling of pure pride washed over him at the perfect attack from his boyfriends.
He turned to them —wanting to congratulate them— when a second, louder thud was heard. It bounced from the walls of the gym as the smaller middle blocker hit the floor.
Tsukishima just … froze.
He didn't know what to do. The image of his boyfriend lying on the floor, not getting up again, burned itself into his memory, sure to haunt him for weeks on end.
He had to do something! He had to help him! He had to make sure that he was okay! Ha had to do … something! Anything!
But his legs didn't move, no matter how much he commanded them to, they just wouldn't listen. Not even when the silence of the other players and coaches subsided, replaced by screams and worried yelling.
He had to move, god damn it!
Why couldn't he move?
He stared ahead at the motionless body on the floor. People were buzzing around him, shaking him, screaming his name, trying everything to get an answer from the smaller.
Takeda was already on the phone presumably calling an ambulance. That was what someone did when something like this happened, help them.
So why couldn't Tsukishima?
He tried to, his mind yelled at his body to move, to help, to sprint to his boyfriend and hope that this was only a bad prank. But he didn't move, his legs felt like they were super-glued to their floor, not moving a single millimetre.
Everything went by in a blur. Sugawara told them all to back off to give Hinata some space to breath. They only listened when the paramedics came through the door, swarming around Hinata, checking his breathing, which was thankfully there —Tsuki didn't know how he would've reacted it it weren't— but only shallow.
He felt someone take his hand and looked away from the scene in front of him of him to be met with Yamaguchi's worried look. He didn't know if it was because of the whole situation or the blonde's reaction to it. Most likely a mix of both.
It finally snapped him out of his stupor and he squeezed the hand of the other back, it functioned as an anchor, something to ground and keep him present. He took a few steps in the direction of Hinata —Yamaguchi right at his heels— coming to halt next to Kageyama, who was staring at their boyfriend, worry and fear etched into every line in his face, the tension visible in every fibre of his body.
And then something happened that Tsukishima's heart hadn't been able to comprehend for a few moments.
They cut open Hinata's shirt, revealing a beige binder underneath, before quickly cutting it open as well, leaving the ginger's chest out in the open.
He was wearing a ….binder.
The implications of what that meant swarmed around in his head but he couldn't pay them any mind.
Not when Hinata was being surrounded by paramedics as they put him onto a stretcher. Sugawara was the first to talk to the medics present, interrupting them before they could carry Hinata out of the gym. He quickly placed his jacket over his Hinata's torso, apologizing for interrupting but the paramedics told him that it was okay.
Tsukishima should've done something like that, he should've been the one to think about his boyfriends comfort, he should've helped.
Yamaguchi tried for one of them to ride with Hinata in the ambulance but they weren't allowed to, an adult had to be the one accompanying him. Takeda was to one to do it, Ukai deemed himself to not be suitable for that sort of thing.
—
They weren't allowed to go see him. They cursed their damn school when they were told —rather harshly for the record— That they had to sit through the whole day of classes, none of which Tsukishima could recall anything from, his brain could only focus on one thing.
How was Hinata doing?
Was he okay?
Why had he passed out?
Could've Tsukishima prevented this all if he just said something about it earlier?
Lunch was torture. Tsukishima, Yamaguchi and Kageyama sat together, the absence of their boyfriend's sunshine personality leaving a hole that was impossible to ignore. The heavy silence that hung over them was suffocating, none of them knew how to break it, how to put their thoughts into words. Though Tsukishima knew what the other two were thinking, he himself could only think about the one thing as well.
They wanted to see him, they had to see him, make sure that he was okay, see that bright smile again. He had only realized just how much he loved that smile when the absence of it was so heavy and made it feel like his heart was slowly ripped apart in tiny pieces.
—
All the other team members also had not an ounce of concentration left for afternoon practice, not with what happened in the morning. Takeda had informed them that Hinata had woken up shortly after he was admitted to the hospital and he was doing okay again.
But he had to stay in the hospital for the night just so they could keep an eye on him. Tsukishima was seconds away from just bolting out of the gym and taking the next best bus to the hospital, he'd walk the whole way if there weren't any. He didn't care, he needed to see Hinata again.
But Takeda continued to speak before he could act on those thoughts and before he knew it was he already cramped into Ukai's tiny car with Daichi, Suga, Kageyama and Yamaguchi. The 5 second years and Asahi all squeezed into Takeda's only slightly larger one.
They broke about twenty traffic laws on their way to the hospital but that really didn't matter to any of them.
The ringing in his ears returned, though much more muted, like it was coming from another room. His eyes slowly opened, the bright lights above his hospital bed blinded him and he closed them again as a reflex.
But that moment of peace and quiet was only short lived, all his senses seemed to come back to him all at once. The ringing got louder and louder until it was as if it came from a speaker that was placed directly next to his head at full volume. With it came a pounding headache, making his head feel as if it was going to explode any moment. The blinding lights doing nothing to help with it.
He could make out that someone was next to him, trying to talk to him, though he couldn't make out the words said to him.
Slowly, the world around him became clearer and consciousness wasn't as unbearable as it had been in the first few moments. There was a nurse by his side now, checking his vitals but he couldn't give her a response to all her questions just yet. On one hand because the words only just started to make sense, on the other hand because he couldn't remember a damn thing that happened. Wasn't he at practice a few moments ago? How did he get into a hospital? What happened?
He somehow managed to tell the nurse that his head hurt and she brought over a new bag of fluids and hooked it to the needle in his arm, which he had just realized was there in the first place. He felt as the cold liquid travelled up his arm, an uncomfortable feeling that made the hairs on the back of his neck stand.
He let his head fall back against the pillow, hoping that the medication would start to help soon. The ringing died down again making the silence that followed heavier, pressing down on him as his brain slowly started to work again, as it started to remember again.
His mother basically burst through the door, Natsu basically glued to her heels. The two of them came up to him with fast steps and before he knew it there were four arms slung around him, tears following shortly after.
"God damn it Shoyo! Don't you dare to ever scare me like this again! I was so worried when your teacher called me", her sobs were slightly muffled from where she pressed her face into her son's shoulder.
"I'm sorry", it was only a whisper, but the sincerity in his words was clear and was only underlined with him pulling both his mother and little sister closer to him. He really felt bad for worrying them like this and he felt even worse for disrupting morning practice the way he did.
His mother told him what had happened —having been told by Takeda— it helped to fill in some of the gaps in his memory. He curled in on himself, Natsu hugging him tighter from where he sat on the hospital bed.
They all saw.
They all knew.
They now knew that he wasn't born a boy. Would they see him differently? Would they accept him? Would it be awkward next practice? Would they even want him to attend the next practice?
Would his boyfriends still want him?
His head started to hurt again as fresh tears started to gather in his eyes. This wasn't how he wanted to tell them, he wasn't ready for them to know just yet.
His mother tried to calm him, reminding him how much those three boys seemed to love him, that they wouldn't stop doing that just because of this. But her soothing words didn't do anything to ease his anxiety.
Hours have passed and they had to leave again. The youngest hugged him for a solid five minutes before leaving, basically having to be pried away from her brother.
And just like that was he alone again, a nurse checking in on him one or two times, unhooking the empty bag with the medication and offering him something to eat but he really couldn't stomach anything right now. The nurse wasn't all too happy about that and brought him food regardless but he really had no sense of hunger at that moment.
He watched as the hands of the clock on the wall opposite from him made their way around the face of the clock. Seconds turned minutes, which turned to hours, all spent in silence.
At least the world around him was, his head was louder than ever, leaving him not a millisecond of rest.
What would they say to him when they showed up?
Would they treat him differently?
Would they be angry at him for not telling them?
Would they be disgusted by him?
Would the hate him now?
Would they even show up?
Somehow, that was what scared him the most, them not showing up at all. He could handle them being angry, hurt, confused, disgusted but the thought of them abandoning him? He couldn't bear that.
Tick, tick, tick, tick,…
The clocks ticking was rhythmic, a small sound that broke the silence of the room.
Tick, tick, tick, tick,…
It made Shoyo go mad, every tick reminded him of another second going by, another second he was left alone.
Tick, tick, tick, tick,…
It seemed to get louder every second and he was sure that the headache would've returned, if it weren't for the amount of painkillers he was currently on.
Tick, tick, tick, tick,…
The school day had just ended for them, they would start practice soon…. without him. Would they miss him? Would Kageyama set to someone else and think about how he would've rather set to Shoyo? Was Tsukishima going to block one of Tanaka's spikes and miss the orange haired next to him? Would Tadachi do one of his serves and miss Shoyo smiling at him after it scored a point?
Tick, tick, tick, tick,…
Or would everything just go as it normally would?
Would they even notice his absence?
Tick, tick, tick, tick,…
He wanted to crawl out of his own skin, he was suddenly hyper aware of everything around him. The sound of the clock seemed to get louder with every tick, the chatter from the hall on the other side of the door seemed to get louder as well, though he was sure that his head was playing tricks on him.
Tick, tick, tick, tick,…
Practice started five minutes ago, they were probably running laps or warming up… without him.
Tick, tick, tick, tick,…
The noises around him seemed to get even louder, well the voices in the hall were —as if a crowd of people had gathered in front of his door— the ticking of the clock stayed the same, never missing even one monotone tick.
Tick, tick, tick,tick,…
He curled in on himself, most of his face now hidden under the blanket.
Tick, tick,tick, tick,…
He didn't have his binder and he was suddenly all too aware of that. What if he didn't imagine those those voices after all, were they really visiting him?
Tick, tick, tick, tick,….
No, that was dumb. They were still practising so they wouldn't be here. They were practising… without him.
Tick, tick, tick, tick,….
Would they come by after practice? He doubted it. Kei always did his homework directly after school, urging Tadachi to do the same, it was their ritual which they had never broken before. And Tobio hated a change in his routine and visiting Hinata in the hospital wasn't part of that routine.
Tick, tick, tick, tick,….
They weren't going to come…
Tick, tick, tick, tick,…
He's going to be here all night.
Alone.
Tick, tick, tick, tick,…
He'll fall behind. He–
Tick, tick, tick-
WHAM!!!
The door slammed open and in came three people.
His thoughts seemed to freeze for the first time since he had woken up.
They were here.
They came.
They came up to him and he just stared back at them, as if he really hadn't fully realized that they were here, they were actually here. Their expressions were full of worry and he immediately felt bad for being the cause of it.
The first to say something was Kageyama, he basically sprinted to his bed wrapping his arms around him as tight as he could without hurting the other one, "Idiot! You fucking idiot! Don't ever do that again!"
To say that he was perplexed would be n understatement. Kageyama liked to cuddle — at least he let the others use him as a personal pillow as much as they wanted— but he wasn't one to initiate. There had only been a handful of ones where Kageyama was the first to hug or kiss him, it was just the way he was. So this? This was more than foreign.
The other two soon followed turning the whole thing into one big group hug. They were really here. And they were hugging him, so the was a good sign, right?
But that didn't mean that everything would stay the same.
They pulled away again and he just now noticed that he hadn't hugged the back. Was he really that deep in his thoughts?
They looked at him with such worried expressions and he just wanted the earth to swallow him up so he wouldn't have to face them like this. Were they thinking about it? Where they thinking about a way to break up with him?
"Shoyo?", Tsukishima's voice was so soft, it was so far from his normal sarcastic tone. He used that vice so rarely Hinata had to take a double take and see if he was really the one that spoke just now.
He looked at him for just a second before he curled in on himself again avoiding eye-contact with anyone in the room. He had spent the last few hours hoping that the would show up, that they cared. But now they were here and he didn't know what to do.
What was he supposed to say? 'Hey, do you still love me even though I'm not a real boy? Please say yes, otherwise I'll cry' He couldn't say that. What if they really didn't like him the way he actually was?
"Sho?", Kageyama tried next, gently reaching out to brush his arm over the blanket but Hinata flinched away a tiny bit, causing Tobio's hand to stop mid movement. The look of confusion and … hurt on his face unbearable. Hinata was being a burden to them, he was causing to worry and the feeling of hurt.
Tadashi spoke up, his tone wasn't as careful as the other two had been, he wasn't walking on eggshells because of his … condition. He was confident in his words not leaving any room to question him, "Shoyo, we don't care that you're trans, if that is what you're worried about. Which we both know you are. We still love you and this doesn't change how think about you. At least for me it doesn't an I'm sure our two emotionally stunted boyfriends think the same way"
He carefully took the blanket Hinata had tried to hide behind for the entirety of their visit so far and gently pulled it away from his face. It was slow and careful, giving Hinata the opportunity to cover his face again if he wanted to.
He continued to speak when no protests from Hinata came, "I just want you to be happy and save. So please don't be so reckless about your health, we really care about you and today was extremely scary"
The tears that had welled up in Hinata's eyes finally spilled over and he pulled the green-haired in for a hug, a proper on this time. He made grabby hands at Kei and Tobio behind Tadashi's back, signalling for them to join the hug and they did without a second of hesitation.
They didn't care!
They still loved him!
This made him so much happier than he had ever thought it would, the feeling of them finally knowing caused him to let out a breath he had been holding in for way too long.
But their heartfelt moment only lasted a few more minutes before they could hear shouting from the other side of the door. Tsukishima scowled at what had to be Noya and Tanaka, "The rest of the team is also here. Do you want them to come in or should I tell them to leave?"
A laugh bubbled up in his chest as a huge grin spread over his face. They were all here, they didn't hate him.
They were let in by a still scowling Tsukishima giving a warning look to the two boisterous second years, who basically stormed into the room. This was nice, really nice.
The rest of the team all followed, Daichi and Ennoshita keeping everyone in check as always. They didn't make a big deal out of it, they just asked how he was doing and if he was doing better.
They all didn't care about the little fact the had found out about. To them he was still the same. The same volleyball obsessed freak who seemingly had an unlimited amount of energy. The little ball of sunshine, as Tsukishima was prone to calling him.
And to Hinata that meant more than he had ever imagined it would.
