Work Text:
In the deepest dark of the bunker. In a lonely room, one man stood holding a red phone, near what used to be his ears.
“OH Phone Guy I’m your biggest fan!” Gaster spoke, with frustration and a hint of anger.
“WHY WON’T YOU ANSWER ME!” He grabs the phone in his hands and starts squeezing it.
“PLEASE PHONE GUY, PLEASE JUST SPEAK TO ME, I’AM YOUR BIGGEST FAN, PLEASE!” In his anger, he squeezed the phone too hard. The phones' shells crack into tiny red plastic flakes, the sound of it echoed throughout the room, and in his mind.
“What have I done?” He started panicking, knowing that he made a big mistake.
“NO, I’ve killed the Phone guy from the cult game franchise Five nights at Freddy's.” Tears began to run on his cheeks. In his unlimited rage against himself and the cruel world, he threw the desk on which the rest of his headless phone stood. He demolished it, ripped it apart, stopping only when he hit his toe, on the metal leg of the desk. When his tears formed into full sobbing he finally curled up into a ball, on the cold floor of his room. Now with his shaking hand, he took out the photo of his beloved.

“I will never be able to hear your beautiful, Hello hello hello, EVER AGAIN” He cried out into the darkness, holding the photo close to his heart.
Right next to him on the exact same desk, the exact same phone began ringing. Gaster jumped and snatched the phone.
“Wind Dings Gaster speaking. How may I help you?” his voice now focused and professional.
“Gaster, it's 2 in the morning, stop screaming.” The caller was Carol, her voice didn’t hide the annoyance of being woken up at such an early hour. “I know Phone guy means a lot to you, but please keep it down a little, Noelle might get scared and start talking about the ghost pipes again, and Dess would probably slide down in the toilet just to find out the” her voice was cut of by Gaster
“ YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MY SPECIAL PHONE GUY, YOU FU…”
MEANWHILE AT THE DREEMUR RESIDANCE
Azzy and Dess were playing super smashing fighters. They were happy, due to the absence of Asriel's parents. The doe took up most of the couch space leaving only a slither for the goat.
“You know Azzy. I’m hungry. Maybe we could make banana bread?”
“No Dess it’s forbidden to make banana bread at 2 in the morning. I thought you remembered about this.”
INTERMISSION FROM THE BUNKER
In this great hour of sorrow Gaster continued to weep for the death of his Phone Guy. The doors to the bunker flew open, and in the entrance a figure clothed in shadow stood.
“GASTER for the last time, stop crying over him. Do you want everyone to know about our secret?” Carol said, her voice calm, yet filled with anger.
“Carol, don't worry, no one knows about me.” Gaster stood up holding a peanut in his hand.
“I bet they don’t even know I can roll a peanut on my finger” As he said, the peanut perfectly spinned on his finger. “I’m just so dramatic!” He struck a glamorous pose, the peanut still spinning on his finger. “Edgy!” He struck another pose even more strange than the last one. “I’m just a Mystery Man.” This time it looked like a jojo pose. With each pose the peanut flickered a small burst of light. Carol, having had enough of Gaster decided to pull on a small lever near the entrance, the room lit up with yellowish light, revealing him to be dressed only in a propeller hat, a Family guy T-shirt and Spongebob shorts.
“AAAA MY EYES” Gaster screamed letting go of the peanut. His eyes quickly stopped burning as he looked at what had happened to the peanut. “MUAHAHAHA THE PEANUT IS FLOTING AND IT SHALL KILL A RANDOM CHILD!” Before Carol knew it the peanut flew out from the bunker.
BACK TO THE DREEMUR HOUSE
“Azzy you still seriously think that this is true? What’s the worst that can happen, me getting struck with something?” She ignored the concerns of the goat. “Deeeeeess. That kills people.” True to his words a peanut struck Dess in the back of her head pushing her off the couch. “Dess are you alright?” In Azzy’s words a bit of shock that the legend was true. “No I’m dead” with that, the doe went limp. “DESS NOOO!” The goat took her in his embrace. and slowly cradled her. “Now there’s only one way to be forgiven of our great sin. I need to find her.” He took the deer’s body and ran to the lake. Jumping in he got transported to the other side of the lake. Despite the early hour, this place looked beautiful. The sun was slowly rising over the horizon, the birds sung in unison producing a lovely melody. The leaves of a willow moved on their own allowing him entry. Azzy stood at the edge of a pond. Its water was so clear you could see the pond’s floor, all around it flowers bloomed, trees grew high into the sky. It looked like this place was locked in eternal spring.
“Welcome knight, what are you seeking from the Lady of the Lake?” The lady emerged from around the bottom of the pond. “Oh great Viviane, I come here seeking the cure for my beloved Dess.” In his voice a mixture of sadness, seriousness and a bit of anger could be heard
“I see your love for her is big. It’s not going to be easy as her damage is quite severe.” Viviane told this to Asriel whilst examining Dess' body.
“I can prepare a potion to heal her, but I need you to get me the ingredients for it.” The nymph gave Asriel a small piece of paper. On it reads “ 3 yellow fruits from the garden of Eden, a stone from Sodom, a block of cow’s milk, a block of white crystal marble (both kinds), 1 egg, 1 juice from vanilla, 1 bag of white wheat powder.” Azzy realised that this thing won’t be easy. “Tap on the names of the ingredients, it should take you somewhere near it” She explained, taking Dess to float on the water. “I will take care of her in the meantime” Asriel pressed on the first ingredient. He woke up in a jungle filled with many trees and shrubs, it was as peaceful as the pond. The peace was destroyed by a sudden appearance of a flaming sword. It thrusted itself at Azzy missing only by an inch.
“Unotherized personnel detected. Deadly force authorized." The robotic voice spoke from the sword. The Goat sprung up and ran as fast as he could, dodging many shrubs and other obstacles as well as the sword.
DODGE
The sword cut horizontally, destroying everything on its way, even shortening some of Asriel's hair.
THRUST
The sword implied the tree right in front of Asriel, setting it ablaze. In this quick moment Azzy spotted the fruits he was after. He ran up to the and snatched the right amount before teleporting away. As the adrenaline from the chase subsided, he could feel the pain coming from his back. The realisation of just how close he was to dying hit him like a truck. He didn’t even notice that he was back at the pond.
“Oh back so soon?” Viviane came out from the water, and stood next to Asriel. “Wait, give the note for a second.” She extended her hand, and Azzy gave her the note, his eyes still staring in front of him, his mind still processing what just happened. “Oh yeah I’ve already got that, and also that” She formed a pen out of the water and crossed out the items she already had. “Okay here you go. Should be all good now.” She handed him the note. The stone from Sodom and the block of cow’s milk were crossed out. Asriel was still paralyzed and unable to move forward, so Viv pressed on the next item. This time he was high in the mountains, snow was blowing all around him. Before him stood a large bronze door. A hooded figure made his way to Asriel’s side. “What are you looking for here, in our beautiful monastery traveler?” The voice of the figure felt very old.
“I’m looking for the stones of crystal marble.” his body and especially his jaw shaking from the cold.
“Oh then follow me traveler.” The old figure grabbed Asriel’s hand and took him inside the temple. All of it was immaculate, fine tuned to the minute details, the glass perfectly reflecting and mixing with the windows. From the entrance and through the main hall, the old figure took Asriel to a door secured by a thick gate.
“One must defeat the beast lurking behind these doors to receive the crystal marble.” With that said he pushed the button which opened the gate and the door.
“Wait a monster?” Asriel wasn’t even given time to respond as the old man pushed him inside and locked the door behind him. In front of him a vile beast was enjoying its wretched meal. Though it was small the aura it gave out was of unending fear. “THE HELL IS THIS!! WHY DOES IT LOOK LIKE CATY, BUT SMALLER AND ORANGE?!!” The horrifying thing made Asriel try to combine with the doors behind him. The beast proceeded to walk towards him, making his heart start pumping like it was about to burst. He started sweating bullets as the creature got closer and closer. The best instead of devouring him or harming him in any way. Instead it walked up to him and started softly bashing his head against his leg, and purring like it wanted to do this for countries. “WHAT, WHAT DO YOU WANT?” Asriel slowly lowered his hand. The beast, seeing his action, pushed his head in the palm of Asriel’s hand and started playing with his fingers. “Great, the beast is tamed!” The old figure’s voice could be heard, muffled by the thick door. The doors began to open as the critter ran away to the darker part of the room. “Here, consider them yours.” The old figure handed Asriel small crystal cubes. With that Asriel moved to other ingredients. In a quick flash he appeared in sans’s shop. “Howdy could you tell me where?” He gets interrupted by Sans, who already knows the answer. “The magical stuff for potions? Yeah they are over there.” Sans points at a small shelf containing only the things Asriel needed. He picked up all the items and gave him to Sans. “Right, all of this should cost around” he scratches his bony chin. “543 dollars.” The absurd cost of these items stunned Asriel for a minute “Are you serious?”
“These, my friend, are the best ingredients money can buy, and the most magical of them all. Could you also please not keep the other shoppers waiting?” Looking back Asriel sees a looping line of Sanses, with different outfits for everyone. Asriel, now embarrassed a little for holding up the line, quickly shuffled to find his wallet. The ever growing anxiety didn’t help in the search. Finally a thought caught up to him “You left your wallet in the house, dumbass.” Now the mission objective was to survive and exit this hellish place, grab the wallet, then return here and pay that Angel forsaken price. “I’m sorry. Sorry.” Asriel squeezed through the bone mass, every passing moment, every person was more annoyed with Asriel’s antics. He finally managed to pull himself out from the store. He quickly ran to his house, and picked up his wallet, this time though Lady luck wasn’t on his side as he was one dollar short. He rampaged through his house searching for that one dollar. The symphony of the chaos he left was truly beautiful, yet from one dollar short he was now one cent short. Now after all of this, he was forced to do something unspeakable, an act that could cast him into the deepest parts of hell. He went back into Kris’s bedroom and opened their night stand, to fish out the one cent, as he picked it up his hands began to shake, his body grew weaker, he really didn’t want to do this. With all of his strength he placed the one cent in his pocket. On his way back to the store he noticed that the stars were slowly fading away as the morning sun was about to peak over the horizon. He returned to the store, the previous long line was already gone. Having paid the inhuman price, he swore that he will torch this shop one day. With a quick jump into the lake he was transported back to the pond. This time the beauty of nature was slightly violated by a cauldron standing in the middle of the pond, the kelp formed a thigh wall around the bottom of it to protect the fish from swimming into the boiling water.
“Okay since you have all the things now, throw them in the cauldron, mix them with your hand. Once it starts glowing yellow, take out your hand or it might get burned to a crisp, and wait until it starts beeping.” Viv said, while sitting on a nearby rock. Asriel followed her instructions to the letter. When he felt the mixture starting to warm up and a small yellow light emanating from it, he took out his arm from the cauldron and waited by it. As the light grew it enveloped the inner part of the cauldron, a soft hum could be heard. As the mixture started to beep, the yellow light vanished and in its place, banana bread started to float, stopping slightly above the cauldron. This banana bread was the most delicious looking, Asriel has seen in his whole life. As he was admiring this loaf of banana bread, Viv took it, and before Asriel could even react, she ground it up and started giving it to the fishes below. “WHAT THE HELL?? THAT WAS FOR DESS!” Asriel screamed in shock of her actions.
“Oh yeah.” Viv exclaimed calmly. She went and dug out Dess’s body from the bushes that sprung around it, laying her next to the waters edge. She also went into the surrounding forest and picked up a beer bottle. She filled it with the water from the pond and poured it out on Dess’s head. With a sudden splash Dess jumped, catching her breath. “See, she’s fine.” Vivian's voice was steady, with a wave of a hand she summoned a huge wave. The wave hit Azzy with such strength that in one blink he was back at the lake edge with Dess next to him, their arms touching each other. Both of their breaths were shallow and quick and started to mix together while they laid there in silence. The sun finally came out to greet the pair. Its rays lit up the whole area with soft light. Despite their state, even they noticed that this sunrise was perfect. Their breath slowed down to a normal level as they both got up to sit. The doe placed her head on the goat’s shoulder.
“We will never bake again” Dess said with a sigh, burrowing deeper into the goats warm fluffy arm. “Don’t worry we will not. How about we get some pizza?” A small smile formed on Azzy.
“Sounds nice.” Dess quickly got up, extending her hand to Azzy. He catches her hand and pulls himself up. Now they both walk away swearing to not bake ever again.
