Work Text:
Hello dear.
It’s been a while since we have been able to talk, face to face, without you needing to chase me down. I doubt the… thing keeping us here would allow us to meet outside of these ‘games’. I know how you feel about me. You’ve made it exceedingly clear. You still believe things are the same between us.
I want to tell you that they cannot be. They can’t ever be the same after what you’ve done. And yet. I don’t know the words for how I feel about it. There is a part of me that yearns. That clings to those memories of sneaking out and hiding among the flowers, and getting caught only to laugh about it. There is a part of me that yearns for when we first shared ‘I love you’s and when we’d kiss only when the elders weren’t watching.
But whenever I think back on those times they’re just… dulled. After what you’ve done, after you stabbed me in the heart- both physically and literally- everything has felt more dull. Any memories we shared, I can tell there’s joy but… I can hardly remember what joy feels like. I know I want joy. But joy is not with you. Not while we’re like this. Not while you’re like that. Not while we’re here.
I’m not saying that we can never fix things. But you are foolish for believing that things haven't changed at all. Foolish for not even looking at yourself and seeing the bloodshed that has stained your once obsessively clean robes. Foolish for not understanding how I possibly felt at that moment. Knowing you valued the teachings more than what we had. Knowing that you valued a second life more than me. More than us.
Now I am not even sure if the teachings were the truth, after what I have learned from the others here. Now I wonder what could’ve been if we had stuck to what we had rather than…
It’s a bad train of thought to go down. I know this will end me nowhere. It will end both of us nowhere.
We are here. We are in hell. And reluctantly, there is still a part of me that loves you. But we cannot be together like this. Not in the way you want to be, not now. Perhaps in the future. But for now, I hope you can find peace with what you’ve become without me.
