Work Text:

A child in a green sweater walks down the stairs and makes their way to the kitchen.  On the counter is a small basket that they grab. Glass can be heard inside the basket bumping into each other from the sudden movement. They make their way towards the front door only to be stopped by a small figure.

"Hiiii, Charchar." the smaller child says while grinning "You aren't thinking about leaving looking like that, right?"

Chara looks down at the usual outfit they wore. They spent all night planning for the date but were so focused on the details they forgot to plan out clothes. Well, they aren't that bad Chara thought to themselves is it really bad to be wearing the usual? Green sweater, brown shorts, black stockings and a golden heart neck- Chara's eyes grew with worry as they realized something. How could they forget something as important as that. They hear a small chuckle from the child in front of them and they look back up.

"Forgetting something?" their younger sibling says before revealing Chara's necklace from behind their back who then dangles it in front of Chara's face. They simply grab it from Frisk and place it around their neck before opening the door.

"A thank you would be nice." Frisk says with annoyance. Chara only sticks their tongue out at their younger sibling and closes the door behind them. The weather outside is sunny and the air is warm. The royal begins their walk towards the park to meet up with Clover for their first date. You know, I shouldn't worry too much about wearing the usual when Clover wears her cowgirl outfit EVERYWHERE. They thought to themselves. Even when the two finally confessed (and both of their plans failed miserably) she was wearing that outfit.

After about 15 minutes of walking, Chara finally enters the park and they look around. The royal is unable to find who they were looking for and starts looking around again. Now where could she be? Chara continues walking around the park scanning their eyes for any sight of Clover. Perhaps she isn't here yet? Chara pulls out their phone and opens the messaging app to text the cowgirl.

"Boo." said by an unknown figure behind them. Chara quickly turns around with a knife in hand and points it outwards. A human stands before them with arms now raised in the air. Despite the knife Chara was holding, the shorter human kept smiling at them.

"So ya gonna murder me or we gonna awn a date?" came out of their mouth in a very familiar accent.

"...Clover?" Chara questioned. The cowgirl only chuckles.

"About taahm ya recognize me.  Ya looked ovher ta me like three taahms an kept walkin'!" the cowgirl answers before asking her own question. "Am ah really dat unrecognizable in dis outfit?" She gestures to the outfit she is wearing. Instead of her usual cowgirl outfit, Clover was wearing a yellow dress in a similar color to her eyes. A sunhat rested upon her head instead of the usual ten gallon hat. The only part of her usual look that remained was her bandana and braided hair. Chara could feel a blush form on their face.

"Mama, said ah should war sumthin' different fer maah fuhrst date." Clover states while swinging her arms. "Ah didn't like the idea at fuhrst but she took me shoppin' yesterdee and ah saw dis dress.  Ah asked her ta git it fer our date right away." she smiled at Chara who only continued staring at her. I really arrived here in my usual clothes while she came in a pretty dress. Clover kept staring at them like she was waiting for a reply.

"Well..uh...I like it, Clover" Chara finally stated. "I think it is pretty on you." Clover's face started to glow a faint red color at the compliment. The two kids kept staring at each other for a bit before Chara grabs the cowgirl by her hand.

"Anyways, I know the perfect spot for our picnic." they state as they drag Clover behind them. They walk off the path of the park onto the grass making their way to a lone tree in the back.  Upon arriving there they place their basket down and open it to pull out a small blanket. At the same time Clover places her basket down and starts grabbing plates. The kids spend the next few minutes setting everything up. The blanket rests on the grass with a few paper plates sitting on them. Fruit, sandwiches and various kinds of chocolate were resting on the plates (and a small bag of gunpowder rested nearby). Chara then proceeds to bring out two wine glasses and a bottle.

"Chara, why do ya 'ave wine?" the cowgirl ask "Mama would kill me ifin' she knew ah was drinkin' dis!"

"Relax, Lucky. It is just apple juice I poured into a clean bottle." Chara says while filling the glasses. "Just wanted to be extra fancy you know?"

"And yet ya ahr wearin' yer usual outfit instead awf, ah don't know, a tuxedo?" Clover asks their partner.

"I may have forgotten to plan my outfit ahead of time." Chara replies. Chara forgot to plan something? the cowgirl thought That's not like them.

"Didn't know twas possible fer ya t' forget sumthin'." she teased only for Chara to throw a sandwich wrapped in plastic at her face.

"Oh shut up" they playfully said before handing her apple juice. "Let's just enjoy our date." The two kids then sat down with their backs facing the tree with a sandwich in hand and unwrap them. They talked to each other about their week between bites and sips of their "fancy" apple juice. When the sandwiches are gone they move onto the grapes. Chara would occasionally throw one at their girlfriend who would try (and fail) numerous times to catch them with her mouth. Chara on the other hand, successfully caught every piece of chocolate the cowgirl threw at them. Time quickly passed as the two children had fun. Eventually the sky started turning orange as the sun starting to set. The two kids had begun resting against the tree trunk with small smiles on their faces and eyes closed. The picnic was a successful first date to the royal. Even with their poor choice of clothing compared to Clover. Chara then opened their eyes and turned to look at Clover. Angel, she is pretty in that dress. They smiled at the sight before their eyes drifted to the freckles scatted across her face. Chara would never admitted it, but they considered the freckles the cutest part of the cowgirl. They were scatted across her face like the out of reach stars in the night sky. Well, her freckles aren't actually out of my reach. Chara thought to themselves. I wonder.... and they reached their hand out towards Clover's face. The cowgirl opens her eyes at the sudden gesture. A faint blush forming on her face as Chara simply brushes the cheek. After a few seconds, she starts to lean into the royal's hand. The two kids simply sat like this for a few minutes. Eventually, another idea enters Chara's mind and they briefly stop brushing their girlfriend's face.

"Hey, why ya stop?" she asks with a small pout only for Chara to not answer. They then slightly move Clover's face to get a better view of her freckles. The royal stares at them for a few seconds and a blush grows across their face. Eventually, they gather the courage to go through the plan and lean in.

Clover's entire face quickly turns a bright red and lets out a small squeak. The warmth of Chara's lips only last a few moments before they pull away. Her thoughts quickly become scrambled as she struggles to speak. After what felt like forever, the cowgirl's head falls into her hands.

"CHARA!" she squeaks out. Her partner only chuckles.

"A single kiss is all it took to take you down, huh?" the royal teases "Some deputy of the Wild East you are." She lowers her hands and the pout from earlier returns to her face.

"Ah was jus'. caught awth guard." Clover states to defend herself while crossing her arms.

"Or maybe I just found the deputy's weakness." Chara teased some more "A weakness I am going to exploit, or maybe sell to the highest bidder at the New Wild Eas-" they were then cut off by the warmth of Clover's lips on their cheek. A blush forms across their face and reaches the tips of Chara's ears. The cowgirl leans back.

"Thair, now wer eve-yn." she states. Chara decides to accept defeat and rests their head on the tree trunk. A few minutes later a yawn escapes Clover and she proceeds to rest her head on Chara's shoulder. The royal simply brings their hand up to Clover's hair to run their fingers through it. The cowgirl lets out a satisfied hum as she leans further into Chara's shoulder. Another yawn escapes her a few seconds later.

"Tired, cowgirl?" her partner asks. Clover only responds with a small hum before shifting her body. She was now sitting on Chara's lap with her head resting under their chin. The side of her head was resting against her partner's chest like a pillow. Chara proceeds to wrap their arms around Clover to pull her in more. Chara then raises one hand up to their girlfriend's hair to continue running fingers through it. She hums once more. Both kids close their eyes satisfied with what is happening.

Notes:

Not pictured: two worried moms arriving at the park to look for their kids cause it is getting late. Whoops.

Also Clover thoughts are not an accent because I said so.

Also also this takes place before Clover's growth spurt so she is shorter than Chara.
