Work Text:
The circus can’t afford to do charity shows. So Spade goes alone. He appears in a burst of smoke, amidst shrieks and a bestial snarl. There are teeth at his “throat”, poised to give a different creature some very permanent problems.
“Oh dear. Perhaps I should’ve used the door.”
The jaws withdraw. Leon of Zou stares, baffled. “You’re…”
“The greatest performer in the galaxy!” a child squeals.
Spade bows, sending sparkling confetti flying out. “Charmed! What say you to a show?”
More squealing erupts. Leon remains wary. “…How much?”
Spade flaps a hand. “On me today. Call it a whim.”
“Nothing in life is free.”
“Joy should be.” How old are these children? For that matter, how old is their guardian? Spade isn’t an expert in other species, but all children deserve joy.
He conjures a hat, then pulls a lizard out. None seem tempted by the free snack, though eyes widen at the spectacle. He tosses the lizard aside as Leon pounces on it and conjures a set of rainbow-flamed torches to juggle instead.
“Any requests?”
“Explosions!”
“Saw someone in half!”
He laughs. Ah, youth. This is what he lives for, glimmering eyes and enraptured fervour.
“So, any volunteers?”
