Coco had a kind heart.
Nina knew she could trust her.
They'd have their tussles, but at the end of the day, they could open up to each other.
Deep within the jungle, in a secluded spot near a waterfall, she spoke to Coco. Revealed her yearning to snuggle cute animals. Those cuddles had cost her her hands. Metal didn't feel, didn't detect temperature. Made it harder to judge the force of her grip, made her hands incapable of love.
Coco didn't interrupt her. It was only when she'd fallen silent that Coco asked, "Am I cute?"
"Yes." She didn't hesitate to answer. Coco was the cutest girl she knew. No, the cutest girl in the world. It was the undeniable truth.
Arms wrapped around her, then. Gentle. A nuzzling muzzle to her cheek, the scent of Wumpa fruits and sun on Coco's fur. The tickle of blonde hair. Soft exhales brushed her neck.
A long-lost warmth reignited in her chest, starving, begging her to return the embrace. She couldn't, she wouldn't. Her hands remained at her sides.
"Is this okay?" Coco asked.
Nina nodded against her, sniffling.
She was drowning in Coco's kindness, and she didn't want to resurface.
