You can read this solo if you want but I recommend watching “Consequences” in order to understand this

Work Text:

Sans was confused.

First Frisk was crying for some reason.

Then they were gone.

Papyrus was even concerned.

“Is the human okay?”

Sans gave a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes.

“I’ll go find them. Maybe make some pasta in the mean time?”

Papyrus beamed.

“You got it! Just…stay safe and don’t get lost. It’s dark out.”

Sans nodded.

“All I have to do is follow the footprints.”

The skeleton followed the tiny footprints that led into the forest.

“Kid!” Sans called

Then he heard it.

The sound of sniffling

He stepped into the clearing and saw Frisk was hiding under the shade of bushes.

Sans calmly stepped closer, not wanting them to run off again.

“Hey there, kiddo.” He called.

Frisk gasped as they made eye contact with him.

Sans put his hands up.

"Hey, hey now, I’m not mad. Papyrus and I just want to know what spooked you so much that you ran away.” He said, keeping his voice light,

Frisk wiped their eyes and managed to speak.

And it horrified Sans hearing that the kid had a vision that when they stayed the night, he ended up killing them because he thought they killed Papyrus because of the other route.

Sans softened

“Oh kid…”

He opened his arms.

“C’mere.”

Frisk hesitated, but they accepted the invitation, allowing Sans to hug them.

When he pulled back, he spoke.

“I see why you’re scared. But you think I would ever hurt you? You have one of the kindest hearts I know. Sparing everyone down here. Showing mercy. You don’t have a mean bone in your body.”

Sans then stood up, extending his hand.

“Now let’s go back to the house, yeah? It’s getting late and it’s cold out here.”

Frisk took his hand, and they went back to the house.

They ended up growing tired on the way back, so Sans picked them up, and they had fallen asleep.

When he returned, Papyrus was ecstatic seeing they were both okay.

As Sans gently laid Frisk on the couch, he turned to Papyrus, explaining everything.

Papyrus nodded with sympathy.

“Then we’ll have to just stay down here and prove that it’s safe!” He said with that usual determination

Sans yawned.

“Spoken truly, Pap.”

The brothers then lay on the floor in sleeping bags, soon drifting off to sleep as well.

And the next morning when Frisk woke up, seeing them on the floor, a rare smile appeared on their face.

They could trust them after all.
