Work Text:
Monte took a deep breath as she stepped out into the hallway, the loud talking of rich men and women who would killed each other if they had the opportunity slowly faded as she closed the door.
It was one of many ‘events’ that Earth had forced her to host, nothing like the parties she was used to being at.
God if her past self as saw her in this stupidly modest black dress and no more red dye in her now longer and ‘professional’ hair, Monte thinks her past self probably would puke at the sight.
The mirror on the wall seemed to mock her as it showed exactly what she had become. Earth’s wife, and truly nothing else.
What happened to the rockstar she was? When was the last time she had even held a guitar? Could she still remember how to play?
Where even is her guitar? Did Earth throw it out after their wedding?
Monte growled, grabbing an expensive vase and throwing it at the mirror like it was the one at fault.
Tiny sharp pieces flew towards her, a large one hit her leg but she couldn’t care less.
The loud crash seems to only exist in the small space between the guests and Monte, neither party reacted but it was there. Like a tree falling around no one yet around everyone.
“Mama?”
A small voice of a young girl echoed around Monte.
Monte let out a sigh, closing her eyes as she turned to face her daughter.
“Luna? Why aren’t you in bed?” Monte whispered, red eyes meeting light blue.
“You’re bleeding, mama.” Luna walked towards Monte, tightly holding Spigot close to her tiny form.
“Shit erm… s-stay there! Fuck…” Monte warned, trying to stop the little girl from getting cut on the glass. “Mama’s coming, ok? J-Just stay there..”
Monte picked up Luna, holding her on her hip as the small girl rested her head against Monte’s, lazily blinking up at the older women.
“Why are you still awake, Lulu?”
“The nanny didn’t read me my bedtime story…”
“That kept you awake?” Monte said with shock, a small smile of disbelief flashed on her face.
“I need my story..” Luna whined softly, hiding her expression in Monte’s shoulder.
Monte let out a sigh, rolling her eyes at her daughter’s stubbornness that she obviously got from her father.
“Come on, let’s get you that story.” Monte started to limp away to the stairs, the shooting pain in her left lower leg telling her exactly where the bleeding had come from.
After a painful minute or three, Luna was now laying in her canopy bed, filled to the brim with velvet blue blankets and white silks.
“Now, what story do you want? Monte asked, sitting on a wooden chair next to Luna’s bed “Peter pan? Or maybe that red dog book you like…”
Luna shook her head. “No mama! Non of those! I wanna know how you and papa met!” The little girl sat up, now having a lot more energy.
Monte sucked in a breath, her eyes widening as she remembered how exactly they met.
Sunny dragging Monte as she explained excitedly about her ‘new brother’ and how Monte felt meeting the kind man who was now her husband.
“Well… I can’t remember much but I can tell you it was quite a sweet meeting, he smiled at me like I wasn’t just a loud and unpleasant person. Although I wasn’t the nicest to him…”
“So papa fell first?” Luna asked innocently.
“Yes, but not like the books Auntie Sunny reads to you when you go over to her house.”
“Aw man..”
Monte smiled at the girl, gently stroking her head. “Anything else you wanna know before you were made, hun?”
“Why doesn’t papa like your old friends?” Luna cuddled Spigot closer.
Monte almost flinched at the words, but quickly stopped herself as she let out a breath.
“Papa does like my friends! He just, doesn’t like how they act like i’m not happy here.” Monte looked away. “I am happy, lulu. They just don’t understand that.”
Monte didn’t know if she was lying or not, but she knew it wasn’t the whole truth.
“How about I tell you a funny story about when I was a rockstar?” Monte said, trying to distract the girl.
“Oo yes mama!”
“Ok then lay back, I want you to be asleep before I finish ok?”
“Finee…”
