Work Text:
Wylan was running, he didn’t know what he was running from. He was running in a hallway of sorts that kept turning every which way and branching out creating new hallways. The walls are scribbled with what he thinks are words. They could be saying anything but he couldn’t read them.
Turning to the right, Wylan begins to fall, he didn’t know which way he was falling. Water began filling his lungs as he was teleported to that day in the canal except someone was holding him down by his scalp, their fingers digging into his hair like claws.
He starts being pulled up out of the water, and it’s his father's face sneering back at him.
“You're a disappointment to the Van eck name.” Vaneck sneers, dropping Wylan back into the water.
Words echo around Wylan as he sinks down to the bottom of the canal.
Idiot. Stupid. Defect. Disappointment.
Those four words echoing around him in the darkness. His lungs filling up with water, tears mixing in. Dark spots start filling his vision.
—----------------------------------------
Wylan wakes up, the sound of his father’s voice filling his head.
“You’re a disappointment to the Van eck name.”
Wylan feels his heart beating fast in his chest, his lungs searching for air. He kicks the blanket of his body.
The walls start to move forwards and Wylan starts breathing harder than before.
Slipping out of bed, trying to be as quiet as possible so as not to wake up Jesper who’s fast asleep beside him. At least he is having a stressless sleep.
The hardwood floor is cool underneath his feet as Wylan steps into the hallway.
His father’s voice repeating in his head.
Idiot. Disappointment. Defect. Stupid. A failure.
“You're gone. I helped put you in prison.” Wylan says to himself.
Wylan opens the doors leading to the balcony overlooking the garden and the canal.
The cold air fills his lungs as he steps outside.
Crouching down and putting his knees to his chest, tears start to fall down his face.
The words echoing in his head.
Stupid. Idiot. Disappointment. A failure.
“Get out!” Wylan screams into the night sky.
“Wylan, where are you?” Wylan hears Jesper shouting his voice mixed with worry, in the hallway.
Wylan tries to shout to Jesper , but his voice gets caught in his throat.
“You can even call your boyfriend’s name. You are a failure.” A little voice in his head says.
Wylan puts his head against his legs. Tears falling down faster.
“Hey, Wy are you out here?” Jesper asks. “Hey. Hey, it’s okay, whatever happened wasn’t real. Okay. Can I hug you?”
Wylan nods. Jesper crouchs down, wrapping his arms around Wylan. Wylan rests his head on Jesper’s chest. Getting tears all over his shirt.
“Was he in it again?” Jesper asks.
Wylan nods.
“Whatever he said and whatever he’s saying in here.” Jesper says, stroking Wylan’s hair. “He's wrong. You’re beautiful, smart, brilliant even. Whatever is happening in your cute little head. Tell it to go away, it’s not allowed to be in my boyfriend’s head.”
“Thank you.” Wylan says, whipping his eyes with the back of his hand.
“You're welcome, just wake me up, so you don’t have to suffer alone.” Jesper says.
“I’ll try.” Wylan mumbles into Jesper’s shirt.
“That’s all you can do.” Jesper says, planting a kiss on Wylan’s head.
“I love you.” Wylan says, snuggling into Jesper's shirt.
“I love you too, Merchling.” Jesper says.
“Not a merchling.” Wylan says.
“You might be a merch now but you’ll always be my merchling.”Jesper says.
“Um uh.”
“C’mon let’s go back to bed. You're freezing.”
Wylan looks at his arms and sees that they're covered in goosebumps.
Jesper grabs Wylan’s hand and pulls him to his feet and together they walk back to their bedroom. Wylan tripping over his feet a couple times with Jesper catching him each time.
“Careful Wy, don’t fall.”
“I’m trying.”
“You're doing amazing.”
They make it to their bedroom, the door still open.
“I’m sorry,” Wylan says.
“What for?” Jesper asks.
“For waking you up.”
“Hey, you're not allowed to feel guilty about that. You're allowed to wake me up if you have a problem.” Jesper says, turning to face Wylan, putting his hands on his shoulders.
Wylan feels tears forming in his eyes.
“Hey. Hey it’s okay, you’re safe, we’re safe,” Jesper says, pulling Wylan into a hug.
Jesper leads Wylan towards the bed and Wylan climbs into Jesper’s side.
“Can we snuggle?” Wylan whispers.
“Of course.”
Jesper climbs into the bed and Wylan rests his head against Jesper’s chest and Jesper pulls the blanket over their bodies.
And Wylan falls asleep wrapped up in Jesper’s arms.
