Amari Peters
I very carefully applied product to my hair and scrunched it, creating beautiful curls. I was excited to see my close friend, Hazel Levesque, today.
We met at an event about a year or two ago. Something about Camp Jupiter collaborating with the bureau on defenses against monsters. I didn’t know much about it; I wasn’t a demigod. None of my friends had been there. Lara had gotten sick and taken Elsie and Jayden down with her.
So when another black girl came up to me and struck a conversation, I was like, “Sure, why not.” The way she talked had stricken me as a bit old fashioned, I’d gotten the shock of my life when I found out she had come back from the dead. I’d wondered if she ever talked to Magnus. I put on my cutest outfit, a white tank top with a strawberry on it, a pale pink skirt, and a wind breaker the same color as the skirt. I put a strawberry hair clip in my hair, I love strawberries. I grabbed my crossbody bag and walked out of the apartment.
Once I got outside, I hopped onto my bike and started pedaling.
I check my watch. I’m already late, should’ve left five minutes ago, my ADHD had me reading a shampoo bottle for no reason, I pedal faster.
When I get to the boba place, Hazel’s already there.
She’s wearing a pale yellow shirt with a purple hoodie around her waist, and shorts stopping a little above her knees. Her eyes twinkled gold in the sunlight, making her look even more beautiful than she already was. God, those curls were nicely taken care of, while mine were messed up from the bike ride and looked like I didn’t do anything to make them look nice at all.
“Hey Amari!” Hazel called. I pedal up to the bike parker thingy and park my bike, while I’m locking it, I say, “Hey, Hazel.”Though it sounded more like a wheeze with how out of breath I am. Hazel noticed and said, “Let’s go order our drinks.”
We walked inside the boba shop, it looked kind of like a cafe. It had a mural of boba tea on the right wall. At the counter, the lady who worked there, some girl named Miranda who had blue hair said, “Hello, what would you like?”
“Can I have strawberry flavor please?” I said. Hazel asked for the regular one, I think, I kinda zoned out her order.
We made some small talk about our friends while waiting for our order. I talked about the time me and Elsie were trying to catch the shade and we bonked our heads together. She talked about some time with Frank at Camp Jupiter, they found some sort of animal and tried to keep it as a pet, Reyna was having none of it.
She got her boba first, she took a sip and made a contented noise. I finally got mine and took a sip, “Mmm, this is so good!” I said after swallowing.
We took a seat at a table and talked about all sorts of things while enjoying our drinks. I love days like these, nice, peaceful, spent with friends.
But, we both knew, it wouldn’t last.
