Chapter 1: An undirect confession?

Chapter Text

First time living together.

So...sort of this whole thing happened. First, Player was waiting for their mail again. Postman rolled on by just like any other day, handing them their mail with a tip of his hat and a cheerful grin. “hey-o!! here's your--” he noticed the tired look on their face, visible bags beneath their eyes.

“ah..I know last time I said it was the...last time..but maybe I could stay just another night?” he offered, voice softening a tad.

Player sort of just blinked a bit, processing. Just to be formal, they gave a small, closed-eye smile. “sure.” they didn't mention how their eyes lit up at the thought alone.

Postman's smile lifted. “right..I'll leave ya to it. take care, bud.” he gave a playful wink and happily walked back to his truck.

A few hours passed. He came back. They spoke a bit while binge-watching a few shows and movies, the normal stuff. Postman had given Player melatonin before their whole night started to make sure they fell asleep at some point. They looked sleep-deprieved, after all.

Just as it was kicking in, Player heard Postman's voice besides them, their drooping eyes slowly blinked before opening again to look up at him, trying to make out his words, which were a blur.

“maybe you could...y'know..move in with me..?”

He looked nervous, fiddling with the hem of his brown jacket, hat slipping a bit off his head. Freckled cheeks slightly flushed with a bead of sweat rolling down the side of his face. He was avoiding eye contact, clearly flustered.

Player only thought of one word whilst looking at him, eyes half-lidded with exhaustion. Cute.

They didn't really respond at first, brain cloudy.

Postman took their consideration the wrong way, stumbling over his words as he instinctively scooted a bit away, hands up in defense. “a-ah! you don't have to, of course!” he rubbed the back of his neck nervously. “I was planning on adopting a few cats and all...the programming to make a house wouldn't be that difficult either--” he rambled on.

“but maybe bypassing my system would probably be difficult..AND-!”

Player cut him off. Their voice was quiet, audibly a bit of a rasp. “I suppose..that doesn't sound so terrible.”

A beat of silence passed as Postman processed.

Suddenly, his eyes lit up.

“really!??!?” he exclaimed, jolting upright and snapping Player out of their drowsiness in the making. In the heat of the moment, he leaned in and captured their hands in his own. “I promise I'll be the BEST roommate ever!” he promised with such passion it made Player freeze on the spot.

Before they could even react or say something in return, he suddenly slipped from their grip and stood. “mmmmaaatter of fact, I'll get to work on it now!” he claimed before disappearing with a poof sound effect.

Player just sat there idly, too stunned to move. They were so frozen that they eventually fell onto their side, their face hitting the soft cushions of the couch. Too exhuasted to get up, they just fell asleep there on the spot.
