Work Text:
Scott springwell spends his days brewing potions for the blue kingdom. He used to be an ordinary mage, but someone had to fulfill the role as apothecary. The other mages found the task tedious, so he stepped up. Hoping this would give him a purpose.
As expected he struggled at first, using the wrong mixing ratios and forgetting what each ingredient does. But eventually he settled into his role nicely. Almost too nicely.
It's been awhile since the others saw him, they'd run into him in the mage tower sometimes or find him rummaging through chests to find discarded ingredients. Other then that he was nowhere to be found.
Only one person knew what Scott was always so busy with, that person was Nominal Bravery. He knew because the flower mage came to him multiple times asking for extra gold. The mage didn't want to deplete all of the kingdoms resources and he was starting to run out of his own gold.
Nom admits brewing potions is important, potions were a valuable asset after all. But he cared more about the mages wellbeing, which seems to be neglected.
So after tolerating the flower mages self destructive behavior for a week, Nom decided it was time for him to take a long break from brewing.
~
Scott was standing infront of a brewing stand, measuring the vials of ingredients in his hands and doing what he does best, making potions.
He's been doing this several hours, he started this morning and it was already afternoon. He made several batches of health and speed potions, more then anyone could ever need. But no matter how many he made he still felt like it wasn't enough.
What if there was an emergency? What if they were attacked? Anything could happen, so he needs to prepare extras incase he runs out of extras right?
Suddenly, there was a loud knock on the door behind him. Who could be stopping by at this hour? The other mages only came to change their spells at night, and the rogues and knights had no business at the mage tower.
Scott left his ingredients on the warped wood table and went to go open the door. When it creaked open he saw none other then Nominal bravery standing infornt of him with a concerned look on his face.
"Oh, hey Nom. What are you doing here?"
Scott asked curiously, Nom was usually busy polishing and making armor at this time. Why was the knight at the mage tower?
"Listen, Scott.. We need to talk"
The mage raised an eyebrow at him but stepped aside to let the knight enter. There wasn't much space to comfortably fit two people, since the room was filled with chests and different kinds of alchemy equipment. So the two of them stood face to face.
"Whats wrong Nom?"
Scott asked, sounding a bit worried after seeing the look of concern on Nom's face.
"Nothings 'wrong'.. just tell me when's the last time you ate something? Or the last time you went home for a reason other then grabbing gold for ingredients."
Scott paused, he didn't know what answer to give that won't make Nom more upset then he already was. He nervously looked away from the knights gaze. He cant lie since they promised to never lie to each other, but he needed to answer somehow.
"You don't need to say anything, the look on your face is telling me everything I need to know."
Nom said abruptly, stepping slightly closer and raising his hands to cup the flower mages face. Taking a good look at him.
"You've even gotten paler since the last time I saw you.. I'm guessing you sacrificed sleep for potions didn't you?"
Scott blushed slightly at the sudden lack of distance between them. Meeting the knights piercing gaze. He really messed up this time didn't he?
"I just got a bit carried away... But I'm fine, really."
Nom didnt believe him for a second. Even if Scott felt fine he definitely wasn't. So the knight did exactly what he came here to do, drag the apothecary away from his work whether he liked it or not.
"Nope, no more potions for you. You've made enough to feed a whole army. We're going to go get you some food now."
"But Nom-"
Before Scott could finish his sentence, Nom leaned in and pressed his lips against his. Silencing the mage before he made anymore excuses. The kiss only lasted a few seconds, Nom didn't know why he did it, but it worked.
"No more buts from you mister. We're going right now."
"...Can I atleast put away the blaze powder so this whole tower doesn't go up in flames?"
"oh. Yeah sure you can do that."
Nom let go of Scott momentarily to let the mage put away the glowing orange powder left on the table. But once he was done storing it away the mage was scooped up like he weighed less then a feather, with absolutely no warning. Scott went bright red as he realized he was in a princess carry.
"N-Nom?? what is up with you today.."
"Your what's up with me today, I wouldn't have to drag you away like this if you ate and slept properly!"
"...fine you win"
Scott covered his flustered face with his hands as Nom smirked, smug with the feeling of victory. He carried away his mage leaving behind that jail cell of a potion room. He knew he cant stop Scott from making potions but he will be keeping an eye on him for now on.
