The spear blasts off from the ground, forcing Donald to look down in panic as he sees his home fade away. Despite pressing any and every button in sight, the spear continued it’s route into space, with no hope of returning to Earth anytime soon.
‘Oh God, nonononono, what am I going to do?!?!?!’ thought the duck, how was it fair that the second he saw a slimmer of a possibility of his long-lost sister’s return he gets flung back up in return like this whole situation was a trade-off. Huey, Dewey, Louie, Uncle Scrooge, maybe even Della, they were all down there, and there was no way they would find out he was gone. That stupid cruise that was meant to be a break would be his downfall, ‘serves me right for thinking I could take a break’.
There was nothing more to do now but just wait for the tense journey up into the unknown to be over, either ending in an unfortunate demise, or, maybe he’ll end up where Della did, hell, if Della managed to survive in space there was no way that Donald couldn’t.
This will probably be fine…. right...?
Della:
Wandering through the empty hallway, Della found herself wondering how everyone could have just moved on without her, she’s only been gone, what, 10 years, that’s nothing! And yet it seems like none of them missed her at all, seeming as they’d gone and replaced her with some new guy.
“I’m sorry, Mr McDuck, but I think Della is struggling to adjust to this new life.”
Coming to a stop by an open door, the duck stood just outside the hall, listening into this conversation about herself.
“Come now, Beakley, she’s only just arrived.” A distinct Scottish accent argues.
“So, she’s not the best with cooking, or age-appropriate stories, or child endangerment. But nobody’s perfect.”
“She’s trying and that’s what matters. Junior Woodchuck rule 3. No matter how hard things get, never give up on a fellow Woodchuck. Sorry, I still can’t hear that great. Also, she’s our mom!”
Della found herself smiling fondly at her children’s adorations, it was just what she needed to feel wanted just about now…
“Right Louie?”
“Right?”
“Well…”
‘gasp’, Della felt rejected at the triplet’s hesitation.
“Hey, look, don’t get me wrong, of course, I’m happy to have Mom back.”
“But?”
“But, I don’t know, something just feels off… It feels wrong for Uncle Donald to not be here, I mean, she’s his sister, they grew up together! And, I know she’s our Mom and all, but, we don’t know her… She’s essentially a stranger to us and I just wish that Uncle Donald at least knew she was home, that way maybe I wouldn’t feel this guilty about it…”
Della let out a sigh of relief, phew, at least her son didn’t think she was a failure, although Louie was right, Donald was and always has been her brother, Della wondered if there would be any way to communicate with him… Aha! That’s it! All she needed to do was contact the cruise ship company and ask them to send a message through. Easy!
Filled with a new sense of purpose, Della headed back to Donald’s houseboat to locate some details regarding the so-called luxury cruise the family sent him on. ‘Please, if anyone needs a luxury cruise right now, it’s me.’ Della joked to herself.
Searching through Donald’s things proved a lot harder than she thought, he just had so much stuff! Granted most of it related in some way or another to the triplets, but still, ‘Geez Donald would it kill you to clean once in a while’. After about 30 minutes of searching, Della finally found the letter that confirmed the placement on the cruise, and a number right at the bottom of the page.
Grabbing a hold of Donald’s landline phone on the houseboat, Della rang the number…

“Hello this is S.S. 40 Winks! How can I help you today?”
“Hello! This is Della Duck and I’d like to send a message to Donald Duck.”
“…Donald Duck? I’m sorry, but my reports say that he never got on the cruise.”
“What are you talking about...? Of course he got on the cruise!”
“Nope, he erm... never showed up... Unfortunately, that meant we had to leave without him. Also, if you wanted a refund, stop there, we only refund it if you contact us 24 hours or more before the cruise so….”
“Ummm, ok then, thank you”

‘Ok, so that was really weird…’ Della thought to herself. Deciding to tell the rest of the duck family her discovery, she headed back into the manor.
One thing continued to go round her head ‘What ever happened to Donald Duck?’.
