Work Text:
Sighing, Seungmin dragged himself out of bed, aimlessly slapping the general area of his alarm. It was so damn cold. Damn you, 9am classes. His husband had already left, as he had a class even earlier than him, at 8am. He wandered through to the bathroom of their small apartment, brushing his hair and teeth. After he had finished with that, he made his way to the kitchen, feeling more alert now. There was a note lying on the counter that read "Check the fridge. Love you baby!" in Jeongin's messy handwriting. Seungmin smiled to himself, opening the fridge. It contained a small pot with pancakes and fruit. Upon further inspection, he noticed the pancakes were heart shaped. A very Jeongin-like thing to do. He ate the pancakes quickly, pulling on his shoes at the same time. He didn't have any time to waste this morning, sadly. At 8:30, he exited the house and locked the door behind him, double checking it was shut properly. A little habit he picked up from his husband.
He arrived at the university on autopilot, parking his car in the same spot as always. Seungmin was a man of routine. Somehow, he ended up at his desk 15 minutes early, giving him time to set up and go over his lecture notes as the earliest students arrived. He carefully arranged a few books and powered on his computer, double checking he had the right document downloaded. When it was finally time for class to start, he cleared his throat to get his students attention. "Good morning guys! Class is starting now," he called, making sure all eyes were on him. "So," he started, "Today we're going to be talking about black holes. First of all, does anyone already know anything about this topic?" A few hands shot up, and he answered them one by one, his entire focus on the class. Before he knew it, two hours had passed and class was ending. The students hurried out of the room, and out of the corner of his eye he spotted a figure standing by the door, waiting patiently. When there were no more students in sight, the person entered, going straight to Seungmin and hugging him tightly. "Hi baby! How was your class?" He managed to say, despite the air being squeezed out of his lungs.
"It was really good!" Jeongin pulled back slightly, grinning wildly. "And guess what, hyung?"
"What?"
"The university wants to give me a promotion! But they said they have to watch my teaching a few times first!"
"That's amazing, baby!" Seungmin pulled him in for a quick kiss, praying there were no students outside. Thankfully, there weren't. Just a slightly shocked looking co-worker. They both smiled at him sheepishly, blushing. The man hurried away, muttering about "kids these days" as if he wasn't only 10 years older than both of them. When they were sure the man was out of earshot they nearly collapsed from laughing too hard. Seungmin finally managed to finish his sentence. "Make sure to tell me straight away when you get it! I want to take you out!"
"If I even get it," Jeongin said, blushing.
"Of course you will!"
"We'll see, won't we?" Jeongin shrugged. "Now, let's go, we're going to Minho hyung and Jisung hyung's place for lunch!" Seungmin was dragged away by the wrist, out to where his car waited. He slipped into the driver's seat, as always, and beckoned for Jeongin to get in beside him. He did so, and they pulled out of the car park and onto the road. It was only a short drive to Minho and Jisung's place, 5 minutes or so. Still, it felt like forever, and Seungmin snuck glances at his husband whenever he could. The sun outside illuminated his face, making him glow softly, and Seungmin couldn't help but stare when they stopped at a red light.
"You're staring," Jeongin said, folding his arms.
"You're cute," Seungmin retorted, sticking out his tongue.
"I hate you," the younger whined.
"You love me really."
"Fine! I love you, a lot," Jeongin muttered, his ears going pink.
"Love you too baby."
The car pulled into their friend's driveway and they climbed out, linking hands as they waited for the door to open. It swung open to reveal a table, where Minho, Chan, Changbin, Hyunjin and Felix were already seated. Jisung was standing in front of them, pouting.
"You're late."
"Barely! Classes ran over!"
"Chill, they're here now!" The last part came from Minho. "Come sit down guys." They did so, and everyone started eating the food Minho had made. The table was ridiculously loud for 8 fully grown men, with Jisung choking on his noodles at something Minho had said, Chan blushing furiously at Felix, and Hyunjin arguing with Changbin about who could eat the most rice in one go. Which resulted in Hyunjin choking as well. Which resulted in Changbin kissing him, somehow. Which resulted in a loud chorus of "GET A ROOM!" It was chaos, but it was perfect, and why Seungmin loved their friend group so much. He and Jeongin linked hands under the table as they ate, making Chan side eye them and mouth "Sops". Like he could talk.
The lunch eventually came to an end, and Jeongin and Seungmin left with many hugs and promises of meeting again soon. Jeongin pressed a quick peck to his lips as they got in the car. With everyone watching. Which made him blush profusely for some reason, even though they had been married for years. To be fair, the last time they kissed in front of their friends was probably last Christmas. As they drove away, Seungmin could faintly hear the entire group laughing and saying "Awwwww".
The evening came quickly, and soon they were brushing their teeth and slipping into bed. Jeongin's head fitted perfectly under his chin and he wrapped his arms around the younger's waist. This was his favourite part of the day, finally getting to relax and just sit together. Seungmin reached over and grabbed the remote, flicking on the TV to some drama neither of them were actually interested in. The nightly tradition of watching dramas was mostly just so they could have an excuse to cuddle more. Before long, Jeongin was fast asleep, with Seungmin soon to follow. They fell asleep with their limbs tangled together, their breathing tickling each other's necks and making their hair flutter. Before he submitted to the sleep that was threatening to pull him under, he whispered into Jeongin's hair. "Love you, baby." With that, he fell into a deep sleep.
When morning came, Jeongin was still tangled in his grip, an unusual occurrence, since he usually had early classes. Today was Saturday though, meaning they both had a day off. These were the best mornings, where Seungmin could just lie next to his husband and stare at him, taking in how perfect he is. How the light makes him glow, how young he looks when he is asleep. Jeongin was undoubtedly the best thing that had come into his life, and he was so incredibly lucky to have met him. So incredibly lucky to have spilled his coffee all over the man he now lay next to. On mornings like these, Seungmin could describe himself as the happiest man alive. He sounded like an absolute sop. Probably because he is. And he loves every minute of it.
Eventually, Jeongin started to stir, grabbing at his shirt sleepily. Seungmin pulled him closer, pressing a soft kiss to the top of his head. "Morning Innie," He murmured, desperate not to break the peace. Jeongin doesn't respond, just pushes his head into Seungmin's chest. He cradles it, smiling at the sleepy man next to him. "Do you want breakfast?" He asks. Jeongin nods, so he slips out of the bed, padding to the kitchen. He pulls out a few ingredients and starts cooking, rubbing sleep from his eyes.
As he stands at the stove, he nearly jumps out of his skin when Jeongin sneaks up behind him and wraps his arms around his waist, giggling. "Innie! Are you trying to give me a heart attack?"
"Yup," Jeongin replies casually, his eyes twinkling with laughter. He looks so beautiful right now, his hair messed up from sleep. "What are you making?" He asks, arms still around his waist.
"Kimchi fried rice."
"Really? That's my favourite! Thanks hyung!" Jeongin spins him around and kisses him briefly, grinning wildly.
"I know. That's why I made it," Seungmin replies, leaning in to kiss him again.
Jeongin blushes, hiding his face in Seungmin's neck. It's cute how he still gets flustered so easily, even after 5 years, Seungmin thinks. He finishes up cooking and sets the two plates on the table, giving his husband the fuller one out of habit. After a few minutes of eating in silence, Jeongin grins mischievously.
"You know what you said yesterday about telling you straight away when I get the promotion?" He starts off, seemingly innocent. "I'm taking that statement very seriously. Even if it means running into your class in the middle of teaching."
"Wha- Innie!? You can't just run into my classroom!"
"I can, and I will."
Seungmin groans. “You’re gonna embarrass me so much, oh my god.”
The rest of the day passes by with them cuddling on the couch, watching movies and talking. They end up tangled together in bed, as always, drifting off to sleep.
When the morning comes, Jeongin is gone for another early class. Seungmin has the same 9am class as Friday. He groans, sliding out of bed. His morning routine is the same as always, get dressed, brush his teeth and hair, eat whatever Jeongin left in the fridge (pancakes again), then rush to work as if he isn't going to be 15 minutes early. His class is fairly boring, until the end of the lesson, when a student waves their hand in the air. "Professor! Are you dating anyone? I need to know for a- uh- a project!" Seungmin double takes, raising his eyebrows.
"Uh...yeah, I have a husband?" The class explodes with whispers, and a few shouts. "What? Didn't think I could date anyone?" He questions, smiling slightly when he sees Jeongin waiting by the door. His students giggle and mutter between themselves, and he hears multiple "who do you think it is?" and "I didn't think he would be married!" flying around. He quickly dismisses the class, eager to know if Jeongin got the promotion yet. Once the class has left, Jeongin slips in, hugging him.
"Hey love," Seungmin says, smiling. "Did you get the promotion yet?"
"No, but they said they would watch me teach again tomorrow and tell me after class!"
"That's amazing! I bet you're gonna get it!"
The next day came quickly, and before he knew it, Seungmin was waiting for the same class to arrive. Although he would never admit it, this was his favourite class to teach, and he genuinely enjoyed teaching them. Everyone arrives fairly quickly, and the class starts. Seungmin starts the same way, every day. "Good morning guys! We're gonna be doing a bit more on black holes today, so does anyone remember anything from the last lesson?" Loud groans echo around the room. "I know, I know, nobody likes black holes. But you have to do it, so you might as well enjoy it! Now, what do we remember? Anybody?" A sea of empty faces blink back at him. "Did you guys all seriously forget to take notes?" he sighs. "Ok. I guess we're going from the start then." Seungmin carries on, his voice laced with enthusiasm that he must have gotten from Jeongin. He never used to be this nice to his students. Before he married Jeongin, that is. After carrying on for nearly half an hour non-stop, he allows a short break for the class to take notes and talk among themselves. The peace is interrupted, however, by the door flying open. All heads whip around to stare at the figure hurrying to the front of the class, who just so happens to be Jeongin. Seungmin covers his face with his hands, blushing. Of course Jeongin wasn’t kidding.
"Hyung! I got the promotion!" Jeongin reaches Seungmin and wraps him in a tight hug, ignoring the students staring at them.
"T-That's amazing, baby!" The pet name slips out before Seungmin can stop it, and he internally dies of embarrassment. His entire class is watching this little interaction. Seungmin kind of wants to die on the spot but he loves how cute Jeongin is when he is excited, the way his entire face just lights up. Jeongin just giggles and buries his face in Seungmin's shoulder.
"Anway, you should be teaching! Bye!" Jeongin quickly brings his hands to his husbands face and kisses him on the lips before he has time to react. He then turns and hurries out of the door, spinning around as he leaves. "Love you!"
"I-uh- l-love you too?" Seungmin manages, his face bright red. He stares at the door for a while, his mouth hanging open, not daring to turn back to the class. When he eventually does, they all look the same as him, staring with their mouths wide open.
"Professor?"
"Y-yes?"
"Are you married to Professor Yang?"
"Uh...I...Y-yeah."
If the floor would open up and swallow him whole, that would be nice. Really nice. Especially when he gets to Chan’s place and social media is blowing up with pictures of them. Someone wrote fanfiction, for god’s sake. At least the students think it’s cute.
If they stop on the way home and take a picture of them kissing in the sunset, that is their business. And if they post that on social media, that is their business.
Seungmin is never living this down. But that’s a problem for another day. For now, he can just enjoy his husband’s company.
