Work Text:
Droplets of crimson fell to the snow, tainting the white snow into a bright red. Kris couldn't take their eyes away from it despite it sickening them. This wasn't right. This wasn't them! Kris still couldn't say a single damn word. Why? Why the hell can't they control their own body?!
To their horror, their armor cladded hand raised, like puppet pulled by a string. Their friend's question made Kris sick to their stomach. "Proceed? K-Kris, you can't be serious?" Kris tried to close their eyes, hide away from this nightmare. That's what this had to be, only a twisted dream. None of this could be real.
That blood.. it was too bright, like the juice at the New Home Church. It didn't feel like it was actually blood from the ring of thorns on the doe's hand. A chill wind made Kris open their eyes and witness their crime. Noelle, the poor doe, had her own hands raised and clasped together. A twinkling sound that was hauntingly beautiful was soon followed by a horrendous snapping of ice growing over yet another victim.
It happened all so quick, Kris barely had time to process their 'enemy' was now a morbid ice sculpture. Remaing chilled wind blew hair out of Kris' face, and they finally saw Noelle's. Her eyes colder and more frosted than the snow. A gnawing feeling festered inside of them, confirming what was dreaded most. Noelle grew a little bit stronger.
Trying one final time to find any words, Kris trembled as their breathe turned into mist. Reminiscent of the whirlwind of frost just moments ago. Guilt made Kris freeze up and feel like a total coward. Noelle's words so quiet Kris almost missed them. "We.. should keep moving." They weren't the only one regretting this weird adventure.
Listening to the snow crunch under them felt like torture. It was too loud, felt more like a sound effect from one of the old games Kris would watch Noelle play on her computer. Angel above how they wished to be back there, a kid sitting upside-down on a frilly bed and watching their childhood friend accidentally glitch out her computer. Things were simpler back then, it was like they knew each other better than anyone else.
But that's the past long forgotten. Over time the pair grew apart and instead of childhood friends, Noelle was merely the girl next door. Kris didn't even know themselves anymore. Or where the hell they were anymore. Taking any turn as their mind filled with bittersweet memories.
Down some alleyway, the pair went and Noelle's cold words pierced through Kris' mental fog. "There's another enemy ahead, Kris.... Should I...? Berdly-?" Now things made even less sense, this had to be some joke. A really fucked up joke for their classmate to be in the dark world all of a sudden. Hearing Berdly give insult after insult only added to the deliriousness of the situation.
Throwing their hand up once more, Kris' body was commanded to command Noelle. It felt like something had wormed its way into Kris' very being, tugging on the darkest part of their soul. A voice even Kris didn't recognize tumbled pasted their lips. All a blur like Noelle had told them it felt like whenever the ice spell took over her mind.
"Kris, I-I don't know that spell." was their dear childhood friend's rebuttal. Yet whatever twisted inside Kris' head made them repeat it. Much like the word proceed, it kept leaving their mouth until Noelle could no longer take it.
"Fine! I'll show you what happens when I use a spell I don't know!" One final shockwave of ice blasted the entire alleyway, and a all too familiar snapping sound of ice growing rang in Kris' ears. Staring at the chunk of ice before them that was once their geeky classmate, Kris felt cold inside.
Regret and fear rolled over Kris. They never liked Berdly but this wasn't what they wanted. Kris at worst wanted to punch the bird brain in the arm. That thing possessing them wanted to keep adding to the icy graveyard.
"I'm.. going home." The doe muttered before slunking off into the city. After a while Kris found the ability to move on their own again. Home sounded nice. There was no reason to stay here after all, no one were left. Kris now felt uncomfortable in this world and hoped this weird feeling in their heart would go away. Really it grew a little big stronger.
