Chapter 1: Moving in

Chapter Text

Jaxon-
I drove my car up to a parking space in the dorm parking lot. I turned my car off and a soft sigh escaped my mouth. I quickly hopped out of the car, eager to stretch my legs again. I took a deep breath. Oklahoma air. Straight from the source.

It’s not my first time at the University of Oklahoma, being that I had to look around the place to see if I liked it. But starting today and the next 4 years, I'll be living here. Pros are that I’ll get to see some of my friends, like Marek, Amelia, Sophia, and Mal. The Cons are that I’ll see Marek. Don’t get me wrong, Marek is a cool guy. It’s just that I’ve started to feel…weird when talking to Marek. Like I have to make him happy or I’ll kill myself. It’s weird but something I can handle. I looked back at the many things in my backseat and debated whether the people in Oklahoma would be crazy enough to steal baby photos and blankets. I decided that they would, still I locked my car and left it at that. Surely my roommate would help me bring my stuff to the dorm room later.

I walked through the dorm halls, glancing at my paper every 20 seconds to make sure the number didn’t magically change. Finally, I arrived at my dorm room. I was just reaching for the door handle when I heard a loud crash come from inside, and a high pitched yelp that followed. I hesitated, and a thought hammered its way inside my head that my roommate could totally be a killer or a horse or something and I wouldn’t know until I opened that door. I squeezed my eyes shut and hoped that at least the horse knew tricks before turning the knob and walking in. I looked around and saw a gold trophy on the floor and a human — luckily not a horse, that’s one off the list— jumping around clutching their foot. I couldn’t catch exactly what they looked like, because they were facing away from me, but they had curly, unbrushed, brunette hair and were wearing an oversized red hoodie. I cleared my throat to make my presence known.

”Um, do you need help?” I said, still standing at the entrance awkwardly.

Marek~
“Oh, hey roomie what’s going on? Don’t mind me, I just accidentally dropped one of my volleyball trophies on my toe.” Shit don’t sound so self absorbed I think to myself. I turn on my heel and I’m left in shock.

“Jaxon!? Damn man your way taller than i thought! How tall did you say you were? Like six something?”

He looks just as shocked as me but he laughs, rubs the back of his neck and looks away. “Yeah, yeah I’m 6’1. Anyways lucky you, you got first pick on the bed!” “Oh yeah” I laugh and look over to my side of the room, I have a pride flag hung up and a terrarium on my bedside table. On a shelf I have some volleyball trophies and all my clothes are hung, just how I want to be because Jaxon’s my roommate I think. “I’m all set up i guess… if-if uhm you need any help id be happy to. I’ve known the OU campus for who knows how long.”

I picked up the trophy I dropped on the floor just a few minutes ago, I dust it off with the sleeve of my hoodie before setting it down on the empty spot on the shelf.

“Oh, yeah I'll let you know if I get lost or whatever.” His hand is still on the back of his neck. Why does he look so awkward? He was always so cool and chill over texts…

I resort to saying, “So…? Wanna meet the others?”
