The sun had disappeared and left its place to the crescent shaped moon as the night wore. Black ink covered the sky along with the sparkly stars. The only sound audible was the high pitch of a cricket, making cricket sounds. 2 fire flies had gathered around the street lamp, flying around the orange light.
The night was surely chill, but there’s nothing a good family bonding can’t heat up.
The bedroom’s window was open, letting in cool air. In the room, on the double bed, there lay a red skinned country and next to him, a country with blue and white stripes.
Türkiye had pulled Greece to his bare chest, pressing him to himself lightly. One of his hands was on the pillow beneath his head, and his other head was on Greece’s chest. Greece’s hand was holding onto Türkiye’s hand on his chest. Greece squeezed Türkiye’s hand lightly, just for Türkiye to pull him closer.
The dimly lit room lacked any light source except the faint light of the moon outside. Inside, the air was thick with intense closeness and intimacy, the faint lavender smell caused by an incense stick only made the moment more relaxing.
The sheets were messy, their hair were messy, the only thing that covered them up was a thin blanket, which was only covering their lower body. But it did not block their bodies from touching.
Türkiye pulled Greece a bit closer as he landed a small kiss on Greece’s soft temple.
“I’m not going anywhere.” Greece murmured, his tone unbothered and his eyes half lidded. He turned his head slowly to look at Türkiye, he eventually turned his body fully towards him. He moved his leg upwards, over Türkiye’s legs. He let Türkiye pull himself closer, he wrapped his arms around Türkiye’s shirtless body and Türkiye did the same. Their bodies were now intertwined.
“I know,” Türkiye replied. “Just wanted to keep you close.”
So Greece let him keep him close.
Türkiye kissed Greece’s forehead, Greece returned the kiss on Türkiye’s cheek.
They stayed like that for a good time, and that time felt heavenly. No movements, no snarky comebacks, no loud and pointless arguments. Only two nations keeping eachother close as they pressed their heat onto the others like they might disappear if they hold on less tight. Nothing less, nothing more.
It was past 23:00.
Cyprus, or Southern Cyprus, had gotten out of his room to drink water before heading to bed. His small frame could barely reach the kitchen sink, so he had to get up in a chair to grab a glass. He jumped off the chair and put it in its place as he walked towards his room with small steps.
That’s when he realized, his parent’s room’s door was slightly ajar. He could see the very faint light of the white moon filling the room. He looked at the not fully closed door, then to the dark hall, then back to the door again.
They have been really quiet, should I check up on them?
He opened the door slowly, without making a noise as he stepped inside, tiptoeing to make sure the floorboards made no noise. He was in the room, directly looking at the bed which was where his dear babás and baba were sleeping.
Cyprus stared at the view in front of him for a long time, his parent’s snuggling in the bed, their bodies pressed against eachother. They looked so warm and comfortable with thin blanket covering their legs.
The look on Cyprus’ face was sheer fascination. He had never seen his parents look this peaceful. Right, peaceful. His heart almost skipped a beat at the sight. He had never seen his fathers like this, since they used to fight a lot. And I mean, a lot.
Their chests, which were pressed against eachother’s, were falling up and down in a slow rhythm. Their breathing had synced in their sleep.
There were no angry looks on their faces, it was replaced with relaxed and calm ones. Which was something neither Southern nor Northern Cyprus was used to see.
Cyprus took a step closer, making the floorboard creak loudly. He silent gasped, pulling himself together to not make any other noise. He looked at the couple in the bed to make sure they hadn’t waken up.
Instead of what Cyprus had been expecting, Türkiye pressed Greece against himself even more as a reaction.
Cyprus felt his heart sank.
Cyprus stared at them with pure innocence on his face for a full 1 minute. Oh how cute they looked when they were not fighting like animals and swearing at eachothers’s ancestors..
Cyprus took a step back and thought whether to cover the blanket on them or leave without doing it. He was afraid that he might wake them up, so he decided picked the unrisky option. He murmured a “good nights, fathers..” that even himself could not hear.
Cyprus went back to the door tiptoeing, he heard a sound of a little bit of movement back in the bed so he hurried up and left the room, closing the door behind him with a soft click.
He rushed to the room he shared with his younger brother, Northern Cyprus. He quickly made his way inside as he closed the door behind him. He did not want to waste time so he could tell his brother what he had just seen.
“Kuzey, you won’t believe what I just witnessed!” Cyprus exclaimed excitedly. Northern Cyprus looked up from his desk where he was doodling something on an A4 paper.
“Huh? What is it, what did you see?” The younger one asked with curiosity, he took the sight of his older brother being visibly being so happy for some reason, his brother being happy made him happy too.
Cyprus sat down the bed cross-legged and turned his body fully towards Northern Cyprus, as North did the same on the chair.
“Babás and baba were sleeping together, on the bed.” Cyprus said, he patted the blanket lightly. Northern looked at him with a confused expression.
“Don’t they do it every night..?” Northern asked as Cyprus shook his hands quickly in front of his chest impatiently, meaning he was about to add something else.
“No, no, it was better than that, so much better and different! They were hugging in sleep, their arms were around eachother. They looked so peaceful. You had to see it!” Cyprus said, his words had drawn Northern’s attention.
“Really?!” Northern asked as he jumped slightly on his chair, his eyes widened in surprise, in a good way. “You’re telling me they weren’t fighting like, ‘that’s not yours-‘ or ‘you goddamn piece of-‘ “
Cyprus cut Northern’s sentence before he could finish it as he nodded violently. “Yes, yes they looked so calm and cute! I’d like to show it to you but I don’t want to wake them up.”
“No, no, Güney, it’s completely fine! As long as it means their happiness..” Northern said as he looked down the desk. He did not meet Cyprus’s eyes for sometime, he stayed quiet instead before breaking the silence. “Have you realized something today too?”
Cyprus looked at Northern, confused. “Realize what?”
“The atmosphere-“ Northern replied and looked at the closed bedroom door. “I mean, isn’t the house so much more peaceful? Ever since the morning, I felt it.”
A sparkle flickered in Cyprus’s green eyes, “Oh yes, yes definitely!” he replied. “I really hope it is always like this, I’m enjoying it a lot.. It’s so much better.”
Northern Cyprus put his hands on the desk. “Same. The house feels so much comfy when there’s no loud yellings or fights, don’t you think?”
“Exactly, I know right?” Cyprus responded as his younger brother reached for a pen on the desk. Cyprus moved closer to the desk to look at what Northern had drawn. The desk and the bed was next to eachother so he did it with ease.
On the paper, a drawing of a house with green, long grass on the ground. The background was bright blue, resembling the sky. The sun from the corner was vividly sparkling, and on the other side of the paper, there was a grey crescent.
“Woah! Amazing drawing, you should be an artist in the future!” Cyprus supported his brother as Northern uncapped the pen and started drawing something.
“Thank you so much, Güney!” The younger brother beamed with joy, Cyprus watched him draw on the paper with 4 different markers. A red, a blue, a pink and an orange marker.
“What’s that, who are those?” Cyprus asked, pointing at the 4 figures in front of the house drawing.
Northern Cyprus had drawn 4 stick figures in front of the house, 2 of them being tall and other 2 being short. The tall ones stood in the middle, and the shorter ones were in front of them, holding hands.
Northern Cyprus giggled at his brother’s question. “Guess!”
