Backstory (set between S1-S3)

Summary:

Basically just Paedyn's backstory, how she became a super cool ninja without training in the Monastery of Spinjitzu, etc

Work Text:

Paedyn Walters once lived a vibrant and fulfilling life in Ninjago City with her loving parents, Alec and Pandora. Though financial struggles never made them wealthy, their love and support created a warm home filled with laughter and adventure. That idyllic existence was shattered when the cataclysmic Attack of the Great Devourer struck, claiming the lives of her parents and leaving Paedyn, only 15, utterly heartbroken and alone.

In the aftermath of her loss, Paedyn found herself at a rundown Adoption Centre, a sombre place that felt alien compared to the vibrant world she had known. It was there that she met Harumi Azrael, a timid 10-year-old girl who seemed equally lost and frightened. A friendship blossomed between them in the dim confines of the Centre, with late-night escapades that involved sneaking out under the blanket of starry skies, pilfering warm buns from local markets, and sharing whispered dreams. However, just as Paedyn began to feel a sense of belonging again, Harumi was adopted, leaving Paedyn feeling abandoned and forgotten once more.

Determined not to be trapped in such an oppressive environment, Paedyn made a bold decision: she ran away from the Centre. With nothing but a few belongings and a burning desire for freedom, she discovered an abandoned shed tucked away on the outskirts of Ninjago City. This dilapidated shelter became her sanctuary and the starting point for a life steeped in survival. As days turned into weeks, a monotonous routine took hold – wake up, steal to survive, run from any trouble, and sleep in the cold shadows of the night. The thrill of petty crime wore off quickly, and soon, Paedyn felt a restless yearning for adventure and purpose.

One fateful day, she made the daring choice to venture outside the city limits, craving to uncover what lay beyond the urban sprawl. Paedyn stole a motorbike, the roar of its engine a symphony of freedom, and rode until she reached Ignacia, a small village nestled near the Western Sea of Sand. There, she stumbled upon a desolate blacksmith shop, its walls worn but still standing as a testament to forgotten craftsmanship. It was within those walls that she found a beautifully crafted dagger adorned with a crest of four swords. Entranced by its elegance, she couldn't resist the urge to take it, believing it would be a talisman of her own strength. Paedyn left behind a heartfelt note, penned in delicate script, expressing her gratitude in case the owners ever returned.

As she journeyed back to Ninjago City, fate took an unexpected turn. In Jamanakai Village, Paedyn found herself embroiled in a chaotic brawl with a group of drunken thugs. Just as she thought this might be an ending, an old woman from Mytake's Tea Shop intervened, her presence calm and reassuring amidst the chaos. Mytake, possessing the rare ability to sense the dormant Element of Surprise within Paedyn, recognised her potential and offered to mentor her. Under Mytake's gentle guidance, Paedyn learned the intricacies of harnessing her newfound powers, training in the art of stealth and strategy.

Days turned into weeks, and Paedyn gained confidence in her abilities, learning to wield her dagger with precision and grace. Yet, as time passed, nostalgia for her former life began to gnaw at her, and she realised that, regardless of her powers, she longed for connection and home. She ultimately left Jamanakai, returning to the chaos of Ninjago City, but this time armed with new skills and a spark of hope.

Though she remained cautious in public, practising her abilities in secrecy, her growing reputation didn't go unnoticed. Master Chen, a notorious figure with a keen eye for talent, took interest in the fiery young girl who manoeuvred through shadows and light with an enigmatic grace.

And thus, Paedyn’s journey as a ninja began – an intertwining tale of grief, discovery, and the relentless pursuit of belonging in a world so often shrouded in darkness.
