Work Text:
When Dabi walked into the building, he made sure to uphold that air of poise he always had. “Hey, how are my favorite villains doing?” he smirked. Everyone knew he didn’t care and therefore didn’t respond. Dabi scanned his annoyed peers and stopped when he saw a new face. His hair was blond and beautiful and his wings a gorgeous crimson red. Dabi assumed that was his quirk. For a reason unknown to him, just the sight of the new guy had his heart racing. It’s not like he could show it though, a man has to keep up an image. “Hey who’s the noob?” he asked.
“That’s your new partner, Hawks. You're both being deployed today,” the boss, Shigaraki, told him.
Partner? Since when did I have partners? Dabi looked Shigaraki dead in the eye in disbelief. “You can’t be serious. You know I work alone,”
“Well today you don’t. You’re testing a new type of high end Nomu, so grab a pro hero and kill em or whatever.”
Dabi sighed and approached Hawks. He couldn’t risk having Hawks with him on the mission. For his safety of course. Yeah right, like I should care about safety.
“Look, I don’t care what the Boss says, you’ll just get in my way so stay outta it,” Dabi turned around and strutted off, not able to bear being any closer to Hawks without melting. And I thought I was the hot one.
Hawks grabbed the back of Dabi’s jacket and tugged him back. “I can get you no. 1 hero Endeavor.”
Dabi stopped in his tracks. He felt his cheeks burn bright red at the sudden touch. Slowly he turned around with a small smirk on his face. “Endeavor huh,” He said playfully, grinning. He stared deep into Hawks’ golden eyes hidden beneath a tinted visor.
“He’ll be in Fukuoka this evening giving a speech,” Hawks informed. “I’ll be there too by him so be careful.”
“And what the h––– do you think you’ll be doing by the no.1 hero?”
Hawks got defensive, tensing up his body with wings spread. “Hey do you wanna fight him or not?”
Dabi scowled, running a hand through his jet black hair. “Have it your way then. See ya tonight" he smirked and winked before running off.
He headed straight to his apartment and crashed on his couch. He looked around the messy house and sighed. Saying he was doing bad was an understatement. He barely spent any time at home and when he did it was to crash after a mission. That was exactly what he was doing now, between the few hours before his next mission.
He stared up at the ceiling letting his mind wander. He could, however, only think of one thing. Hawks. Maybe it was just because he was the first official partner he’s had on a mission. Or maybe just because he said he could get him Endeavor. Or maybe it’s because of how undeniably handsome and intriguing he is. Dabi pushed the thought aside and closed his tired eyes to rest.
—————
Dabi leaned against the side of a building in the alley near the press conference. He watched as Endeavor spoke. His eyes started to drift, as he caught himself staring at Hawks. He broke his gaze when Hawks noticed him and felt his cheeks start to burn up.
“No more questions please, we're out of time,” Endeavor bellowed. Dabi smirked. Time for revenge then. He released the high end Nomu, named Hood, and watched the look of terror that grew on citizen faces.
Endeavor’s red flames however were weak compared to Hood’s regeneration and brute strength. Dabi smiled while watching the Nomu pummel Endeavor into the earth. He couldn’t lie, it was quite entertaining, until Hawks stepped up to help. Have fun dealing with that. Dabi rolled his eyes and walked away trying not to care too much.
Just be careful. Dabi couldn’t figure out why he seemed to care so much about Hawks. So what if he died in the fight he signed up for? It’s not like he wasn't the one who said to bring the Nomu here. Still, he felt the persisting urge to look over his shoulder to check if Hawks was still okay. Then he heard the Nomu let out a piercing scream. He actually managed to kill it.
Dabi ran back to see the Nomu’s corpse on the ground, lying limp between him and Endeavor. Endeavor looked bloody and bruised, a perfectly weak target. Next to him stood Hawks, equally bloody. I said to stay outta it and yet here you are bird brain. He started to strut closer to the no. 1 hero and company, surrounding the 3 of them with a ring of blue flames. “Why don’t we have a friendly chat,” Dabi started. “Who knows when we’ll get another chance?”
Endeavor scowled, trying his best to stand to face the villain. His efforts however were in vain. "You can't fight like this,” Hawks told Endeavor. “Just recover your strength for now, I'll take care of this guy.” Hawks looked at Dabi with a pleading look. We’re partners right? Or did this whole stunt smash that dream? For a second he thought he could see a glint of apology in Dabi’s eyes, but if it did exist, it was covered up immediately by his twinkling smug expression.
“Theres no need for heroics,“ you traitor, “I'm only here to retrieve my fallen Nomu.” Dabi smiled with a wink towards Hawks. He charged towards Endeavor, hands ablaze. “I mean, there's no way I could win this fight right? Unless the top two heroes were beaten already!” Don’t try anything silly, Hawks. Just let me have this.
Hawks braced for impact, hoping Dabi still saw him as his mission partner. A loud crash rang out as Mirko, no. 5 hero came crashing from above the wall of flames.
“Hey! I saw the news,” Mirko yelled. “Patchwork, you're a part of the league huh?” she remarked, turning towards Dabi.
Dabi scowled. I don't need any of this s–––. He dissolved his flames and walked away. A black portal appeared in front of him as he stepped inside, teleporting into the League of Villain’s base. “Thank’s Kurogiri.”
“I assume the mission went well?” Shigaraki called out.
“Well nobody died but the Nomu so if you call that well, then yes,” Dabi said sarcastically.
“Fine, did you at least get the corpse so I can make it stronger?” Shigaraki asked.
Dabi snapped as the giant Nomu fell from the sky through Kurogiri’s portal. “Ya happy now?”
Dabi walked out of the base and into the alley that led to the base. He leaned against the wall and sighed, hoping Hawks was okay. No matter how hard he tried to push each thought, Hawks somehow managed to be the first thing on his mind. How can one bird make me trip over myself like this? It was embarrassing. In his book, pulling a move like what Hawks did was unacceptable and he shouldn’t be allowed near the league just for their protection. Yet, he wanted to let it slide and know if he was okay after a battle like that.
Speak of the devil and he shall appear was how the saying went. And appear he did. Weak steps were heard heading down the alley and those steps revealed Hawks. Dabi fought the urge to run and comfort him, staying in the shadows against the wall.
“Looks like the traitor showed up,” Dabi examined Hawks from head to toe from a distance. His wounds don't look that horrible thank goodness.
“Whadya mean traitor? I got you Endeavor didn’t I?”
Dabi fought the urge to protest about how he could’ve gotten hurt. How he told him to stay out of it but he didn’t and fought the Nomu he was supposed to be testing against literally anyone else. Instead he changed his argument. “Well- if anything I… I would’ve thought you were a hero or something…” He trailed off shyly.
“So it looks like Mr. Cool actually cares,” Hawks playfully retorted.
“Hey it’s- it’s not like that,”
Hawks took a step closer, “sure it’s not, Dabi. Anyways I’ll give a full report to Shigaraki and-“
“No, it’s fine I already did one… but um Hawks, wanna get outta here?”
Hawks stopped for a second. “Call me Keigo.” He grabbed Dabi’s hand and led him out of the alley. There was an unexplainable feeling he always got when he saw Dabi, even though this was only the 3rd time. Still, when Dabi offered to get away he couldn’t have been happier. He knew it was wrong of him, a hero, to be falling for the villain but it was hard not to when the villain was so undeniably hot. “So where do you wanna go?”
Dabi paused. “Maybe to my place, just to crash ya know?”
Keigo smiled at Dabi and said, “lead the way.”
When they arrived at Dabi’s place, it was a bigger mess that he had left it. This is so embarrassing. He’s gonna think I’m such a loser. “I-I’m so sorry, I haven’t cleaned in so long we can head somewhere else if you want-“
“No, I wanna get to know all of you,”
Dabi’s cheeks flushed. “I- uh okay!”
The two men sat in an awkward silence on the couch, both too afraid to say something. “How… how do you get into villain work…?” Dabi eventually asked.
“Well actually-“ Keigo immediately cut himself off. He thought long and hard about his next response. “I was uh- kicked outta school and my dreams were crushed.” Eh, believable enough.
“Okay… cool story!” Dabi commented.
“Hey don’t be saying my story is bad,” Keigo laughed, moving closer to Dabi. “I doubt you have a better origin sto… ry…” he was staring right into Dabi’s sparkling turquoise eyes and melting right before him. Their faces were inches away from each other and both felt hotter than the other. Keigo scrambled backwards, hiding his embarrassment.
Dabi chuckled for a moment before sarcastically saying “If you want a better story than try to beat burning yourself alive because your dad hates you… I wasn’t supposed to say that.”
“Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry.” Keigo sincerely apologized. He didn’t know what for though. “Do.. you wanna talk about it…?”
“No not really, but I guess I can.” It had been a minute since Dabi had opened up to someone and he guessed now was a better time than never to. “My… My dad is Endeavor. And I’m his allegedly dead son Touya. My whole life I wanted nothing more than to follow in his footsteps but since I had no fire resistance, he refused to train me. I ended up almost killing myself with my own fire when I was 13, out of hatred for my father…” Dabi felt a tear start to run down his cheek. Only instead of water he cried out blood.
Keigo paused and put a hand on his shoulder. He wiped away Dabi’s tears and held him in his arms. “Hey it’s gonna be okay. You have me now and I accept you as you are.” Keigo tried his best to console Dabi, ignoring the heavy redness of his cheeks.
“If you want, I’ll let you in on one of my secrets…?”
Dabi looked up. “Oh yeah?” He raised an eyebrow in curiosity.
“I’m… actually the no. 2 hero BUT DONT TELL THE LEAGUE.” Keigo braced for impact, tensing his body and wrapping himself in his wings.
Dabi just sat, appalled. No wonder he was by Endeavor today. What the f——— is wrong with me? Getting all protective over a hero. No. 2 hero at that!!”
“Just let me explain please! At first I was going undercover but then I met you… and everything changed.” Keigo turned closer to Dabi, placing his hand on his. “I never thought I could fall in love with the villain yet here we are. It makes me wanna change my entire life for you.”
Love, so that’s what this feeling was. Dabi paused before moving a little closer. “I won’t tell… but you have to promise not to spill any of the league’s secrets. Promise?”
“On my life,”
Dabi smiled slightly, as he looked into his golden eyes. It doesn’t help that he’s so sincere and sweet… Keigo slowly tilted his head to the side, eyes closed and leaning toward Dabi. Dabi smirked before leaning even closer. He felt both their breaths mix yet he kept a small distance, enjoying the feeling of the anticipation.
Instead of a gentle kiss like Keigo expected, he was instead thrust into the couch. Dabi’s lips crashed into his passionately. He immediately kissed him back. It was a sloppy kiss but it felt amazing either way. When the need for air became too strong, Keigo pulled back ever so slightly, a string of drool connected the two.
Dabi laid on top of Keigo, smirking from above. Keigo wrapped his arms around his waist, rubbing his hands up and down his back. Dabi let out a deep, happy sigh and began to kiss him from his lip, trailing to his cheeks. And from his cheeks, he traveled down to his neck.
“You’re so hot right now ya know that?” Keigo smirked.
He’s so cute when he’s flirty! “Well I knew that, but you manage to be hotter,” Everything about Keigo, looks, personality, even his cute little quirks, somehow always managed to catch Dabi’s eye.
Keigo blushed furiously as he gazed into Dabi’s eyes. Dabi moved in a little closer as, lightly, he bit Keigo’s top lip. When he let go, it was Keigo’s turn to make a move. He rolled over so both boys fell to the floor and initiated a deep kiss, wrapping his arms around Dabi’s neck.
“I love you so much,” Keigo let out between kisses.
“Dabi stopped for a moment. “I love you even more” he said before one last kiss.
