Work Text:

It was late at night, the only sound the comfortable night air. The sky was dark, a rather rare sight to see—as it only happened conveniently when the contestants were asleep. The grass underneath was a comfortable contrast to the close, comfortable contact of Stickman right by, well, embracing him; Bean. They were leaning against a tree, as there weren't many other comfortable places to sleep. Bean had been awake for a few minutes, careful not to wake Stickman.

Stickman was the one leaning against the tree, and then Bean was practically curled around him, face to face if he looked up a bit. The intimacy of the closeness made him a bit self conscious.

... He didn't deserve this kindness from them... He knew he wasn't a good person, and so did Stickman. It was a constant question in Bean's head: why did Stickman bother to stay, after doing such awful things? KILLING people, of all things? It was a constant thing that Stickman reassured him about, but it always rose up again. ...He probably felt absolute pity for Bean. Sometimes he wished they'd never gotten close, so he wouldn't have to worry about all of this. Worry Stickman about all of this. He doesn't want to hurt anyone else, but he knows.

Then, Stickman moved slightly, taking a deep breath in, eyes fluttering open, barely awake. He took a minute to actually wake up, sleep clinging to him almost insistently. Once they were mostly awake, they looked down at Bean, not quite surprised, gaze gentle yet sleepy. "Hey..." he said, voice a bit rough, eyes half lidded. He removed his arms from around Bean briefly, hands going to his glasses, and taking them off for him, placing them beside them. "... can't sleep?"

"No," Bean responded, voice as quiet. He blushed slightly at the small gesture. "I got... lost in thought. ... sorry."

"About what?" Stickman asked curiously.

"Just—" Bean cut himself off, burying his face against Stickman's shoulder. "a lot. I don't... want to talk about it right now."

A moment of comfortable silence passed, and Stickman put a reassuring hand of the back of Bean's head.

"Okay," he said. "you sure? I'm willing to listen."

... "I'm sure."

They both didn't move or say anything for a while, enough time passing for the possibility that Bean went back to sleep. Stickman didn't want to wake him if he did, so he just kept quiet.
