Work Text:
Tamsy sat on the top bunk and his eyes trailed after a pacing Jabber. A pacing Jabber facing a crisis. Apparently his boyfriend, Zanka was mad at him for some reason, and he needed to find a way to make things better.
“Why don't you just ask him what's wrong?" He changed his wording of the same suggestion for the nth time.
Jabber stopped pacing and turned to look at him menacingly. "I would, but he's not even taking my calls. And he's avoiding me. You're not helping, Tamsy.”
Tamsy shrugged, "Well, that's too bad. I'll go now.” He got off the bed and strode to the door, one foot placed out of the room before Jabber yanked him back with his shirt collar.
"You have to help me.”
Tamsy sighed, freeing himself from Jabber's talons and sat at his desk. “...I can talk to Enjin. Maybe he'll know what's going on."
“Zanka? He's fine, as far as I can tell." Enjin munched on a mouthful of chips. “Although he's a little more annoyed than usual, he's not really showing it. What did your roommate do?”
"He doesn't know himself.”
Enjin laughed, "Yeah, good luck to him getting it out of Zanka.”
Tamsy cursed Jabber in his heart and started slowly, "Well… you could help him ask. Zanka is really close to you, and he's not mad at you. Please?”
Enjin pushed Tamsy's approaching face away. "I don't wanna help him.”
Tamsy leaned back with a disgruntled look on his face. "Why not?”
"It's fun to hear about his struggles.”
"Even if it's at the expense of your friend's sadness?” Tamsy stared at him with an expression that was a mix of "you scumbag” and "I can't believe I fell for a brute like you”.
"Hey, don't play the emotional card on me.” Enjin sighed, “Fine. I'll ask. Don't expect anything, though. Zanka can be pretty tight lipped when he wants to be."
“Thanks." Tamsy's expression did a 180 and he smiled and ruffled Enjin's hair.
"Is Zanka your boyfriend?” Tamsy asked casually, flipping through a book.
"I guess…?" Jabber wasn't sure himself. Were they friends with benefits? Boyfriends? Rivals with benefits? Sparring partners that also fucked sometimes?
"You guess? Do you like him?”
"Obviously.” Jabber was pretty confident about that.
"Oh really?” Tamsy's tone was flat. "What's the color of his eyes?”
"Blue.”
"Anyone would know that, idiot.” Tamsy shut his book with a snap."Do you want to define your relationship?”
“Sure, I wouldn't mind." Jabber shrugged, not particularly caring. It didn't matter, as long as he was with Zanka, labels didn't mean anything to him. But if Zanka wanted to name what they had…
"Wait, is this why he's mad?”
"He's just feeling a bit insecure, and you stupid dreadhead, are not helping.” Tamsy smacked him on the head with his book.
"What do I have to do, then?”
Tamsy rolled his eyes, "I don't know, find him and tell him you want to make things official?”
"Oh, yeah, right.” Jabber nodded like an idiot before he remembered, "He's ignoring my calls, though."
Tamsy was impatient, “Find another way to contact him- do I have to teach you everything?"
“Okay, okay… Thanks, bro.”
Jabber's genius idea was to wait outside Zanka's lecture hall with a bouquet of blue edelweiss in his hands. Blue edelweiss because, “his eyes are blue." He conveniently ignored Tamsy pointing out that Zanka's eyes were a much darker shade of blue.
Zanka walked out of the lecture hall with Riyo, talking about something with her. Riyo saw Jabber first and signaled to Zanka, "Your boyfriend's here.”
Zanka rolled his eyes in annoyance, "I told you, I don't have a boy—"
He inadvertently laid sight on Jabber, standing there looking both awkward and sincere. He was dressed casually enough, but somehow it seemed like he had paid more attention today. And in his hands, a blue that reflected the sky. Zanka found that he was walking over before he could stop himself.
"What's that?” He asked, standing not too far from Jabber.
Jabber let out a huge sigh, "Ohmygod, you finally talked to me.” He remembered what he was supposed to be doing and handed him the bouquet. "This is for you.”
Zanka tooked the bouquet and looked down at the flowers in his hands. They were edelweiss. "Why are you giving me this?"
"Um… because I, I want to be your boyfriend.” Zanka said nothing. "Of course, I want you to be my boyfriend too… can we be boyfriends?"
Zanka said nothing still.
“Or if you don't want that, I can be whatever you want… I mean, we can be whatever—”
He stopped as a pair of lips covered his. Zanka cupped his face with his free hand and tilted his head to kiss him better. Jabber smiled into the kiss, one hand coming to rest lightly on Zanka's waist. He melted into the kiss...
An abrupt applause sounded from all around them, pulling the duo back to the present. Zanka's face burned slightly. He had been laser focused on Jabber since the start of their conversation that he forgot they weren't alone. Jabber just smiled at everyone and pulled him away. They slowed down in an empty hallway.
"Hey… why did you give me these flowers?"
“Because your eyes are blue." Jabber said like it was common sense.
“You don't know what they mean?" He probed again.
“No. What do they mean?"
“Not telling." Zanka smiled and held the flowers closer to his chest. His other hand intertwined its fingers with Jabber's. “So we're boyfriends now?"
“Yeah. Honestly, I thought we were the whole time."
“You're stupid." Zanka said bluntly, holding back a laugh.
“I know, and you're the smartest."
