Work Text:

“That isn’t a good idea, Humin,” said Sieun. He had paused writing in his notebook when Humin told him about the prank idea.

Humin frowned. “It’s a great idea,” he said, holding a hand to his heart like Sieun’s judgement had hurt him.

“I’m with Sieun,” Hyuntak said, leaning back in his chair. “It sounds stupid.”

Humin grabbed Sieun’s shoulders and shook him slightly. “Come on! It’ll be funny, I swear!”

Sieun shook him off. “I don’t have time to talk about this right now,” he said. “I need to finish my homework so I can help Juntae.”

The four of them were gathered in the basketball club’s room. They had started off all working on school work, but Humin had gotten bored. He had started messing around with a basketball, but Hyuntak told him to stop because he couldn’t focus. Humin mocked him and then Hyuntak went after him. They wrestled while Sieun stayed focused on his homework, and Juntae tried to focus on his own worksheet too.

Once the two basketball players got bored of fighting, Hyuntak went back to trying to finish his homework and Humin went back to being bored. That’s when he told Sieun about his amazing prank.

“Listen,” Humin said, “it’s simple. All you have to do is ask Suho what ‘ily’ means, then he’ll say ‘I love you,’ and you can thank him or some shit, I don’t know. But it would fluster him, right?”

Sieun sighed and pushed away from the makeshift table. “And why do I want to make him flustered?”

“It’s your job as his boyfriend,” Humin declared.

Sieun gave him a look, then turned back to his notebook, shaking his head.

A few hours later, Sieun finished his homework and moved on to help Juntae with some math problems. Hyuntak had finished his homework too, relaxing back on the couch once he was finally done. Humin never went back to working on anything school related – he was playing games on his phone.

Sieun didn’t think about the “prank” again until later that night.

Suho had come over to Sieun’s apartment after he got off work. Sieun’s mom was out with some people from her work, so the two of them were relaxed on the couch. Sieun was sitting with his back against the arm of the couch. His left leg was bent, his knee hanging off the edge of the couch, and his other leg was tucked against his body. He was using his right knee as a chinrest while he looked down at his phone. Suho was sitting a few feet away on the other side of the couch. He was slouching where he sat, his legs spread into the widest manspread Sieun had ever witnessed.

Suho had been scrolling on his phone for a while. Sieun had been reading a book for a class, but he had finished the assigned chapters, so he had pulled his phone out too. He didn’t spend his time on social media like most of his friends did. He liked mind games. There were quite a few number games on his phone that he tended to rotate through when he was bored.

For a while, he worked on the number game that he was currently focused on. About twenty minutes into playing, Humin’s “prank” came back to him. It was dumb. He’d already established that with his friends and himself… so why did he kinda want to try it?

Sieun pretended to swipe around on his phone screen and then, as casually as he could, asked, “Suho-ah, what does ‘ily’ mean?”

Sieun didn’t look up from his screen, but he could feel Suho’s body tense slightly. Out of his peripheral vision, Sieun could see Suho’s head snap up to look over at him.

The pause of silence made Sieun realize that this wasn’t a good idea. Suho was supposed to say “I love you,” but he was just staring at Sieun, his eyes burning into the smaller boy.

“Who’s sending that to you?” Suho asked.

That wasn’t right, Sieun thought. That wasn’t what he was supposed to say. What was Sieun supposed to do now?

Sieun looked up, ready to reply somehow, but the words caught in his throat immediately. Suho was staring at him with narrowed eyes; he looked dangerous, but it was a different type of dangerous than what Sieun was used to seeing on his boyfriend’s face.

Sieun looked back down at his phone. “It doesn’t matter who,” he said. “Just tell me what it means.”

Suho moved so he was sitting up, leaning towards Sieun slightly. “Who sent it?”

Sieun glanced at him and angled his phone down, trying to hide the fact that no one had sent anything to him and that his screen was filled with numbers instead.

“It doesn’t matter,” Sieun repeated.

“Yes, it does,” Suho said.

Without warning, Suho jumped at Sieun, grabbing for his phone. Sieun reacted quickly, clutching his phone to his chest and jumping off the couch. Before he could get far, Suho wrapped his arms around his middle, pulling him back onto the couch and into his lap. Sieun still had his phone pressed against his chest, hiding the screen from his boyfriend.

“Sieun, let me see your phone.” He sounded serious.

Sieun was really regretting trying out Humin’s “prank.”

“Let me go,” Sieun said, trying to pull away from Suho’s hold.

Suho tightened his arms. “I’m not letting you go until you show me your phone.”

Suho moved from holding Sieun’s body to grabbing both of his wrists. Sieun fought to keep his arms close to his body, but ultimately lost. Suho got both of his hands away from his chest, revealing that Sieun hadn’t been messaging anyone. Confused, Suho just stared at the game on Sieun’s phone.

“Sieun… what’s this?”

Sieun hesitated. “A game.”

“I can see that,” Suho said, still holding onto Sieun’s wrists. “So, why were you asking about texting abbreviations?”

Sieun opened his mouth, but then he thought about the reason, and shut his mouth. He was going to sound stupid explaining Humin’s idea.

“Your ears are getting red,” Suho observed, looking at the side of Sieun’s face. A smirk slowly spread across his lips. “What’s got you so flustered?”

“It’s nothing,” Sieun said quickly, trying to pull his arms from Suho’s hold.

“Tell me.”

Suho pulled Sieun’s arms further back, resting his own elbows on the back of the couch. Sieun flexed his arms, seeing if there was any way out of this position. There wasn’t. Suho’s grip was firm and certain. Sieun had no choice but to admit.

“It was Humin’s idea,” Sieun finally said with a dejected sigh.

“Humin?” questioned Suho. “Why would you ever trust an idea from Baku?”

Sieun didn’t know.

“What was the idea?” Suho asked.

“To try to get you to say ‘I love you.’”

There was a pause of silence.

“What?” Suho wasn’t understanding.

Sieun explained. “Humin said that it would be a good prank for me to ask you what ‘ily’ means so that you would say ‘I love you.’”

“How is that a prank?”

Sieun hesitated at that question. Honestly, he didn’t know that either.

“To make you flustered?” Sieun didn’t believe his own reason. This plan would’ve never worked. Why did he ever give Humin’s idea a chance?

Suho laughed. Trying to take this opportunity, Sieun flexed his arms again, trying to get his wrists free. Once Suho felt Sieun pull against him, he tightened his grip again.

“You wanted to make me flustered?” Suho asked, sounding smug.

Humin wanted to make you flustered,” Sieun said. “I just got dragged into it.”

Suho hummed. “I should teach Baku to keep his nose out of our relationship.”

“Wha–” Before Sieun could finish his question, he felt a kiss being pressed to the back of his neck. He yelped and tried to jerk away from the ticklish feeling, but Suho’s hold kept him where he was.

“Just hold still for a sec,” Suho said, moving to place kisses on the side of his neck.

Sieun leaned away, but that just allowed more space for Suho to pepper kisses on.

“Suho-ah,” Sieun hissed, still trying to pull away. He could feel his ears already growing red.

“A little bit more,” said Suho as he places more kisses up and down Sieun’s neck.

Once he saw that Sieun’s cheeks were bright red, matching his ears, Suho let up. He moved back so he could admire his boyfriend. He let go of one of Sieun’s wrists to grab his phone.

“What are you doing?” Sieun asked when he saw that Suho was opening up his camera. He was trying to glare at Suho, but it looked more like a pout.

“Evidence gathering,” said Suho.

He straightened his arm and flipped the camera so that it was in selfie mode. It was angled so that Sieun’s face filled the screen. Sieun turned his head away and tried to shield his face with his free hand. Suho took the photo. When he checked it, he could see that Sieun’s bright red ear was clearly visible and some of his blush-dusted cheek could be seen from behind his hand. Suho smiled and nodded, relishing his victory.

Sieun peeked out from behind his fingers and watched as Suho opened his messages.

“Who are you sending that to?” Sieun asked, relaxing his arm and moving his hand away from his face.

“Baku.”

Sieun groaned. “Why?”

“I told you already,” Suho said, not looking away from his phone, “evidence.”

Suho opened Humin’s contact and sent the photo, texting:

Your prank didn’t work <

Almost immediately, there was a reply from Humin.

             > What did u do to him?

Quickly followed by several other messages.

             > Nevermind

             > I don’t wanna know

             > Don’t send me pics of ur blushing boyfriend EVER again

“That’ll teach him,” Suho said. He sounded pleased with himself.

Sieun groaned. Humin was never going to let him live this down.

Suho threw his phone to the side. He let go of Sieun’s other wrist and wrapped his arms around his boyfriend, hugging him tightly.

“You can let me go now,” Sieun said, squirming slightly.

“Nah.”

Suho started leaning to the side, dragging Sieun down with him as he lied down on the couch. Once they were on their sides, Sieun twisted himself around so that he was facing Suho.

“You’re so annoying,” said Sieun.

Suho leaned forward and kissed his nose. “You love me.”

Sieun tucked his face against Suho’s chest, not responding. They stayed like that for the rest of the night. When Sieun’s mom got home, they moved to lie in Sieun’s bed. Suho slept over that night. Everytime he woke up throughout the night, he placed a kiss on Sieun’s head.
