Work Text:
Suguru and Satoru have been close since high school. It was almost impossible to see one without the other. They were each other’s one and only; this dynamic never changed when they transitioned into university. Since Satoru came from a wealthy family, he convinced his parents to allow both him and Suguru to live in an apartment together if he promised to stay on top of his grades.
Satoru was extremely competitive when it came to academics and was labeled as an overachiever. He disagrees with being called that, but what’s so wrong with wanting to be the best at everything. All in all, he was excited to have Suguru as his roommate. When they were teens, they would sneak over to each other’s homes and have sleepovers. Movie night, playing video games, you name it. It was small moments like that where Satoru found himself feeling like some lovesick idiot.
Whenever he and Suguru were alone, he felt this urge to just kiss him. It’s not his fault that Suguru had a charming voice and a handsome face. His heart raced whenever they were close to the point where he could feel Suguru’s breath on his face or times when Suguru would grab his hand to guide him through a crowd. See? He had his reasons. Satoru wasn’t oblivious towards his feelings, but he had a constant worry that Suguru wouldn’t feel the same. He’s often told that he could be arrogant and he definitely didn’t want to be Suguru’s arrogant and clingy boyfriend.
At the same time, he loved being close to Suguru and always felt safe in his arms. It was first time having someone who reciprocated on his way of showing affection. He liked how gentle Suguru was with him, even when they were playing around and roughing each other up. He liked the way he practically purred his name. He liked the way Suguru would let him play with his hair and he especially liked it when Suguru would call him “baby”.
He always said it when he was teasing him, but that didn’t matter in Satoru’s heart. He liked being Suguru’s baby. His sweetheart. He just liked Suguru.
They were almost done with unpacking everything until Satoru heard a large crash and Suguru groaning in pain. He rushed to where the sound was coming from to find Suguru clutching his hand, wincing at the cut on his hand. Panicked, Satoru rushes to his side and carefully grabbing Suguru’s bleeding hand. It looked like he injured himself building Satoru’s bookshelf, even though he told Suguru that he would hire someone to do it for him.
“Quit touching it, I’ll go get some bandages.” He said as rummaged through the drawers to find their first aid kit. He knelt down and brought Suguru’s hand close. He was careful with disinfecting the wound and put a Digimon band-aid on the side of his palm. Without thinking, he pressed his lips against his hand causing Suguru’s breath to hitch.
“Are you okay? Does it still sting?” Satoru titled his head like a confused puppy and was searching for an answer in his eyes. “N-no. It doesn’t, thank you ‘Toru” was all a flustered Suguru could spit out. He smiled at him and told him to go sit in the living room while he finished unpacking all by himself. Suguru kept trying to help him and saying that he could still finish everything on his own, but Satoru wouldn’t let him. That stubborn boy.
They were pretty accustomed to living with each other and started having their own basic routine. Satoru woke up earlier and would make Suguru his nasty plain black coffee while waiting for his morning muffin to finish baking, while Suguru would groggily make them breakfast. They rushed out the door and Suguru would often walk Satoru to his classes. He says it’s because he’s worried that Satoru would get lost, but unbeknown to Satoru, he just wanted to spend more time with his precious ‘Toru before having to go to his boring biology classes.
It was nice having a simple routine with your best friend/crush. Satoru looked forward to it every single day.
Classes ended early and Suguru rushed over to the mathematics building to pick Satoru up as usual. He walked over to Satoru’s “favorite seat” and waited for him to pack up his things. He looked so cute with the sun hitting him just right. It was really warm this day and poor Satoru’s cheeks were so red. “Wanna go to our spot? You look flushed”. Suguru teased as he placed his hand on Satoru’s cheek, thumbing at his warm skin and checking his forehead for a fever.
“I’m always flushed when I’m with you.” He giggled. Satoru? Giggling?
Lately, Satoru has been saying things that make Suguru’s heart stop. Is he just teasing him? Or is it mindless flirting? Satoru never really had an issue with showing his affection with physical touch, but words were on a whole other level. Words were difficult for Satoru and took some time for him to say how he really feels without being so blunt.
The pair walked to their usual ramen place and Suguru ordered for them. Typically, they would sit across from each other, but Satoru sat right next to his Suguru and leaned his head on his broad shoulder. “Is it your migraines again?” Suguru asked, placing his hand on his forehead again in an attempt to soothe his discomfort. “Nah.” He sighed. “I just want to be close to you right now”.
Again, with his cute confessions. What’s going on in that head of his? He’s becoming more vocal by the day and Suguru’s heart can’t take it. It’s no secret that Suguru dotes on Satoru and spoils him all the time, but isn’t that what best friends do? He cuddles him to sleep when he’s having a hard time settling down and pays for his sweet treats and overly complicated coffee orders. Everything Satoru does, Suguru finds himself smiling so hard to the point where his cheeks are sore. He laughs at his dumb jokes and goes along with his plans that never really make any sense, but he does it because he loves him. He loves him to point where there is no one else for him but Gojo Satoru.
They ate their ramen side by side and once they were finished, Satoru laid his head back on his shoulder and intertwined their fingers as he fiddled with Suguru’s rings while waiting for the check. “Suguru, you’ve dated before, right?” he murmured. “Just once in high school before you got there, why?” He paused for a minute, like he was trying to find the right words. “It’s gonna sound dumb”. Suguru laughed at how cute Satoru sounded when he said that but urged him to keep talking. “I know it’s selfish, but I don’t want you to find a girlfriend. Or boyfriend. Or whatever it is you like”. He sounded like a little kid begging to be one and only friend. How adorable.
“Can’t you just be with me?” He whispered. His voice was so soft and he could feel Satoru’s nervousness. Shocked, Suguru’s breath was taken away again. Before he could respond, the waitress came with the check, and he paid for their meals. Was Satoru asking to be his boyfriend or was he asking in a “please don’t leave me behind” kind of way. “Let’s talk more at home, okay?” He said, taking Satoru’s hand and guiding them back to their cozy apartment.
The walk back home was silent and nerve-wrecking. They took off their shoes at the door and sat side by side on the couch. Suguru wondered if he should speak first, but he didn’t know what to say. Satoru then held both of his hands and faced him head on. “Suguru, I love you!” He blurted it out and it was louder than expected. “I don’t mean in a friendship way…I mean in a way that a husband and wife love each other.” Suguru laughed at that and loosened Satoru’s tight grip on his hands. His hand found his way to his cheek and looked at him with the most lovesick eyes a man could have. He pulled him close and put their foreheads together. “I love you too. In a way that a husband and wife love each other.”
They laughed together at their confession and held each other close. Satoru was now straddling Suguru’s lap and he was hugging him so tightly, like he was afraid that this was a dream. A wonderful dream that he never wanted to wake up from. Suguru held his waist tightly and cradled the back of his nape, kissing him softly on his collarbone, and whispering “I love you” after each kiss. “I love you more.” Satoru happily sighed and grabbed Suguru by the sides of his face and kissed him.
It was the next morning and the two were practically glued to each other’s side. When are they not? They were laying in Suguru’s bed with Satoru on his chest, tracing his fingers along his nose. “You’re so handsome, I’ve always wanted to tell you that.” Satoru said softly. He looked so at peace and that soft smile never left his face since they confessed yesterday. He giggled as he kissed him on his nose and then focused his attention on his eyebrows, brushing the hairs with his fingers and being so gentle with his touch.
“A compliment from Thee Gojo Satoru, I must be in Heaven.” He joked. Suguru held close and was smiling to point where he didn’t care if his cheeks were sore. “I really did mean it yesterday when I told you I love you back. There’s not a day that goes by where I don’t think about you. Since the day I met you, even though you got on every last nerve, I wanted to walk along side you.” He confessed with no real malice and changed their positions to where they were sitting crisscross applesauce on the bed. Their knees were touching and Suguru thumbed over Satoru’s knuckles and kissed his hand like a true gentleman.
“I love you with all my heart, Satoru. I really do.”
Satoru couldn’t hide his excitement and was beaming from ear to ear. Such a warm and bright smile and it was all for Suguru. “I love you more than anything. You have no idea.” Satoru said as he pounced on Suguru, peppering him with kisses. Across his face, neck, and lips. He felt like there was a weight that was lifted from his shoulders, and he could finally have Suguru all to himself.
“Suguru. I want to be yours. Please make me yours.” He said into Suguru’s neck. He was holding him tightly and trembling out of nerves. Suguru could never deny Satoru of what he wants. He’ll give him everything and more. “Will you be my boyfriend? Can we belong to each other and maybe one day have that fairytale wedding you gush about?” Suguru asked. His hands were shaking as he held him close to him, pulling Satoru him into a tight hug. He felt his eyes watering as he waited for a reply.
“Yes. Yes, fuck Suguru. I’m always yours.”
They continued to kiss each other stupid, laughing at their desperation, and getting more tangled in the sheets. They stayed like that for a while, basking in one another. That fuzzy feeling never went away and they have a lifetime of memories to make. Together.
