Work Text:

Sawamura practically squirmed on the floor, laid flat on his stomach and enthusiastically immersed in his favorite shoujo manga. He rattled his feet in the air in eager excitement as he read through the pages passionately. Miyuki huffed an interest in the scene, his arms in firm entanglement, "I guess you love shoujo manga as much as baseball, Sawamura."

The pitcher could not be bothered— only snapping back as Miyuki promptly coughed, expectant. Shoujo mangas are amazing, Sawamura thought. It doesn't just feel romantic— it feels sentimental and genuine. A world where feelings were constantly at stake, as characters always wore their feelings on their sleeves just like Sawamura. Except every feeling was already always plastered onto his face.

Sawamura had shaped his eyes into cat-like slits, glowering under Miyuki, who was prudently sitting on his chair beside the desk. "Keep quiet, Tanuki! The male lead in this shoujo is spoiling the main character with the much deserving love after the distancing arc—" Sawamura, absolutely fascinated, rattled on to his upperclassman with pure passion. Such a passionate fan; what an idiot.

Miyuki flicked his forehead to the surprise of his pitcher. "Just make sure you're not sobbing by the time I kick you out later." The catcher remarked which led to a furious Sawamura and an exasperated cackling tanuki.

Sawamura rolled around and laid on his back, eagerly peering over Miyuki like some kind of touch-starved puppy. "It makes me wonder— you know, I kind of had this weird shoujo made-up in my mind where you were the male lead, Miyuki." Oblivious, always. The younger player let out a good laugh.

Miyuki bit back a suspecting glare, yet flashed a daring smirk— the very same one that could easily rile up Sawamura on the spot. Barely waiting to tease Sawamura. "Oh? And, you? The main character? You love me so much you've started fantasizing about me?" (Can't help it, Sawamura. You're too damn easy.)

An obvious blur of red cherry tomatoes stung his cheeks. Miyuki succeeded in cornering Sawamura once again. A familiar pair of slit-like cat eyes pang onto the face of the pitcher— how couldn't he? Miyuki Kazuya is a bastard. "Y—Y—You! Fucking b—bastard!" Sawamura huffed through gritted teeth.

Miyuki Kazuya. A third-year catcher at Seidou, the captain, the cleanup batter and the main catcher— Sawamura's catcher. The very person that made him drag himself to Seidou despite his previous goal with his old teammates and childhood friends in Nagano. The day Miyuki caught his pitch— bold and with no hesitation, even when his pitches back then were messy and unpredictable.

He constantly wanted his acknowledgement and favor. Miyuki Kazuya, the boy he saw in the magazine he brought home in Nagano during middle school. Miyu—

"Sawamura." Miyuki sent a flick from his finger to his forehead. "You wanna see Wolf boy see you with this red-face when he comes in? (And— where's your manners? It's Miyuki-senpai to you.)" Miyuki failed to grit down a grin. Sawamura was all too dense, an idiot. He was a year older than Sawamura but he knew to feign his own blush.

"I—I was just thinking, though! Miyuki-senpai loves to tease me—make people angry but you really do care about your friends." Sawamura stumbled in his words, especially his thoughts, "It's pretty cute, you know! (These type of male leads really make a shoujo ending worth it.)" The pitcher continued to wander off as the catcher gape his mouth— unsure whether to laugh it off for his sake or feign a stark response. Sawamura... He’s getting too observant for his own good. His brain doesn't have this much capacity to hold two more brain cells.

Sawamura was taken aback after a swift hand closed his volume. Miyuki returned a teasing but playful glare as he held his index finger in front of his own mouth as the other was too occupied. "Sawamura. You think so highly of me, huh?" Even Miyuki himself already caught on earlier than he should— Sawamura is an absolute idiot. "It seems like you like me too much for your own good," Miyuki sent a probing smirk— an expression wanting more, too much more.

He slopped closer to the sat Sawamura on the floor, almost tipping his chair. "Sawamura, speak up. You're making it easy for me to rile you up—" Miyuki took his chin, "I could do great— no, perfect as your male lead. Sa~Wa~Mu~Ra!" It was the perfect situation for Miyuki to turn the tables around, savoring every look on Sawamura. Such an expression he could never get sick off. The tanuki quietly laughed his head off.

The pitcher, with a head burning with oh-so embarrassment, hesitantly shot back, "M—Miyuki Kazuya!" Miyuki spewed a shh. "My roommates might be heading to bed soon." Miyuki let out a short chuckle in his head. This is so damn good— getting a riled up Sawamura and a good night in one day?

"Y—You're so mean! I hate you.. You're such a bastard... You're a thousand times worse than insufferable male leads!" Sawamura muttered under his breath and cursed sharply. So whiny. "It's true, you know... Under all that tanukiness, there must be something or someone making you feel yourself and happy! (Probably, baseball...)" He managed to spew out a coherent sentence.

Miyuki leaned back, "Hm? Is that so? Maybe, it's some idiot." The catcher snickered— too affectionately, too warmly. The pitcher paused, and frozeq. Eh? "Huh— What idiot? Oi, Miyuki!" Miyuki almost glinted a sweet grin. The atmosphere always feels so nice when Sawamura is around.

"You're such an idiot." Miyuki reminisced about the teams they faced before where they felt both looming fear of losing and distress yet Sawamura was always there to lift the team morale. He snickered— a soft one, too loving.

Sawamura sat there, eyes blinking— oblivious and confused? Idiot? Wait… Sawamura eventually realized the implication after the second statement. What?! Miyuki slanted his head, seemingly intrigued by the expression Sawamura made. "Stop thinking. You'll lose more braincells, Bakamura." He mused, with a hint of chuckle.

A tint of pink washed over Sawamura at the realization. Possibly from embarrassment that he got caught thinking about Miyuki or from anger at the sudden provoking. "You're not implying that idiot is me, right?” He paused then— "Do I make you feel that way, Cap?"

Miyuki hesitated for a moment before speaking with a much more— genuine grin, "You're asking a lot of questions today. Of course, I do."
