Chapter 1: Chapter 1 vol.1

Chapter Text

Nezuko's panting filled The open air where snow was falling heavily. "How did things turn out like this? Tanjiro... don't die. Please don't die. I'll definitely save you so... don't go dying on me. Because your sister is definitely gonna save you!" (Before all this:) The snow was finally done falling, the sun was hiding in the clouds, and Nezuko Kamado was getting ready to sell charcoal to the nearby village they normally went to. It was winter so they definitely needed something other than wood. "Nezuko come here dear." said Mrs kamado. She started wiping soot off her face. "Oh, Nezuko. Your face is all dirty. It's dangerous when snow is falling. It's ok if you don't go." Nezuko insists. "I want everyone to have a nice New years dinner this year. So they can eat to their hearts content. I'll go sell a lot of charcoal today." Kie sighs and agrees. "Ok be safe." Shigeru and Hanako start asking if they can go. "Nii-chan your going to the village today?" asked Shigeru. Hanako stepped in with "I'm coming with you!" Kie shuts down the idea with the reason of, "No. you can't walk as fast as nezuko and she won't be able to pull the cart due to heavy snowfall." She explained. "But Mother!" Shigeru yelped "No" Said Kei. Nezuko asked Takeo if he could chop down some trees. "Takeo because can you do it with no problem can you chop down some trees?" Takeo looked at her and then down at the snow. "I guess I could but... sigh I thought we were going to do that together." He says sadly. She cheers them all up by promising to pick up paper and read to them when she got back. And would chop trees with him as well. All of them say goodbye to Nezuko telling her to come back quickly and to be careful. While she was walking through the snow she saw rokuda running to running to her and then clinging to her leg. Tanjiro followed behind the little toddler from behind a tree. Tanjiro had broken his leg so he has to take care of rokuda. "We thought it would be a good idea to scare you and then he saw you and started running." "I'll be back Rokuda be good ok?" He nodded then went back to tanjiro. "Is your leg feeling better Tanjiro?" "It's getting there it feels still of I'm alright. Be careful Nezuko." She says goodbye to them and starts walking again. "Life isn't easy but it's a blessing. But concerning life is like looking at the sky. It changes it moves, because there aren't times where it stays clear for a long time but there also are times where it snows for a long time. Thus times where happiness is broken, there is always a pool of bloodshed." She makes it to the village and not a lot of people out probably cause of the snow. The village was quieter than usual, wrapped in a pale sheet of winter stillness. Nezuko’s breath fogged in front of her as she called out to the few people passing by. Some greeted her with tired smiles, others rubbed their hands together and bought small bundles of charcoal, grateful for anything that could warm their homes. “Thank you, Miss Kamado. Your family always helps us get through the cold season,” one elderly man said as he placed coins into her cold pale hand. Nezuko bowed, cheeks reddened from the cold. “If I can help even a little, I’m glad.” Hours passed that way slow, peaceful, uneventful. Snowflakes drifted lazily from the sky, softening the world until it looked like a painting. Nezuko pulled her scarf tighter and stretched her arms behind her back. Her back felt lighter now. She had sold plenty of carcoal and now she was ready to head home. "If I hurry, I can get home before nightfall. Everyone’s probably waiting already…" She smiled at the thought Takeo trying to pretend he wasn’t waiting, Hanako pacing near the door, Rokuda clinging to Tanjiro’s sleeve, and Tanjiro stubbornly standing even though his leg still hurt. Just as she was walking, a voice called out: “Nezuko! Hold on!” It was Saburo, the older woman who lived near the outskirts of the village. She shouted from inside her house from a window. ''Come inside it's gonna snow harder.'' The old lady said. "You'd hate to run into a demon." Nezuko agreed caving into pure pressure. She laid on the futon Madam Saburo laid out for her. "For years... man eating demons have been gourging on civilians for years. So you shouldn't be out so late." She continued. As nezuko was lured into sleep she asked groggily. "If they can come inside can't they eat the residents?" There was a pause then a puff of smoke fled her skinny pale lips. "Because Demon slayers come take care of them. Now head to sleep." She blew out the candle lit lamp leaving them in the silent darkness. As her consciousness fled, her mind fed her one last thought. Madam saburo is so lonely. Ever since her family went passed on. I'll bring the others by sometime just to give her company. Before our grandmother passed, she would always tell us stories about demons or so what tanjiro said. Later the next morning possibly moments after dawn. She departed with a wave as snow started to fall. "But as I said earlier happiness is always disrupted by horror."
