Wei Wuxian is a horror game developer. He had made many horror games since he was a teen, and even played the best ones out there! So naturally, as the best employee of Jiang Lotus Gaming company, Wei Wuxian would out do himself with this one!

The problem was, this game was based on the real events and an existing artifact Wei Wuxian found.

Chapter 1: Missing

Chapter Text

Missing.

Wei Wuxian was tired.

But he was so close to finishing the damn thing. It was midnight and most of the workers already left for home. But Wei Wuxian stayed. His laptop broke and he was almost finished.

Leaning back on his office chair, he stretched, knowing Jiang Cheng would never be impressed with the shit he comes up with. Well, he would at least pretend that he isn't impressed.

But Wei Wuxian knew Jiang Cheng would be head over heels with this baby. Wei Wuxian's baby.

Taking a small break, Wei Wuxian took his phone and opened the group chat. He missed some messages.

JC: Is WWX still in office?

NHS: Yep.Told him to pack it up, but his ass is still stuck there.

JC: Of course that idiot. jie is so worried. But he still insists on this shit.

And there were no more messages after that.

Scoffing, Wei Wuxian put his phone away. Glancing up at the clock, the time was almost 1 am.

He did not notice that there was no signal in his phone despite working in a game company.

Maybe that's why he was feeling grumpy.

Yawning, Wei Wuxian got up from his chair. Maybe he needs to pack up. It's too late. He can probably make it back home and crash onto his bed without Jiang Cheng noticing.

When he finished packing, he moved to close the system and noticed something. Blinking, he moved the mouse over it and watched it.. vanish? Blinking again, Wei Wuxian closed the tab. The lack of sleep is catching up to him. Maybe all of Jiang Cheng's nagging is coming true.

Shaking his head, he bent down to shut the cpu off—

Clank!

What the hell?

He walked down the stairs and paused. Glancing back up, there was no one else. Then why was he hearing breathing?

Wei Wuxian realised that it may have been an itsy bitsy mistake to stay overnight when he was making a horror game.

It surely was fucking with his mental health. Why else would he hear things?

This time he heard footsteps and he was sure someone was with him.

He didn't need to glance up. He felt it.

And god, how scary that was.

Without wasting time, he hurried over the steps, not caring that he might fall down the steps and possibly break his skull open—There was someone here and they were chasing him—

His steps faltered to an end as he stared at what was in front of him in disbelief. His eyes wide. He felt like his chest was burning.

The last time he checked, this huge fucking wall didn't exist here. So why was it right here in the middle of the stairs when someone was chasing after him—

A chill ran through Wei Wuxian's spine when he realised the footsteps stopped and the breathing was close.

Too close.

It's been two weeks since Wei Ying went missing.

Lan Wangji couldn't sleep an inch ever since that. He’s been searching for his boyfriend like a madman.

The police lost hope. They would have let go of this case if it weren't for the Lans. And Nie Mingjue.

Lan Wangji knew Xichen was worried. But Lan Wangji was more worried about Wei Ying.

Wei Ying didn't tell him anything. He probably thought Wangji would be worried but now, Lan Wangji's worried sick.

The police found footage. It showed Wei Ying leaving the office and nothing else. But Lan Wangji noticed it right away. Lan Wangji tried to tell them.

They didn't listen. If Nie Mingjue and Xichen didn't placate Wangji, he would have did something he shouldn't have.

Wei Ying looked afraid.

Lan Wangji glanced up when the cell door opened. He walked out of cell, while the officer followed behind.

Lan Wangji would have did something worse than punching the man if it wasn't for Xichen and Nie Mingjue.

He watched the man he punched intently before he turned away, looking back at Xichen who was smiling, looking nervous and concerned.

Lan Wangji felt slightly bad. He gave Xichen a hard time.

Soon, Lan Wangji and Xichen were pulling up in the car.

They remained silent for a while before Xichen spoke up.

”Wangji, I know you are worried about a-Xian but you know we cannot do anything.”

Lan Wangji remained silent, stubborn.

He heard Xichen sigh.

”He was scared, Ge. I saw it. He was scared of something.”

That made Xichen look at him before looking back at the road.

”Scared?”

”Mmh.”

Tense silence filled the car again. They didn't speak again for the rest of the ride.

However, before they parted, right in front of Wangji's apartment, Lan Wangji addressed Xichen.

”I will find Wei Ying. And bring him back.”
