how do you grieve for a love that did not even exist?

Summary:

"The death of a loved one is a hard thing to process for anyone. Especially when you thought you loved that person & he loved you back.

Piper thought she was over it, over all the fabricated memories Gaia had woven together for her."

It's hard to think about all the what if's when you know it will, and can, never happen. Piper McLean knows that feeling all too well.

Work Text:

The death of a loved one is a hard thing to process for anyone. Especially when you thought you loved that person & he loved you back.

Piper thought she was over it, over all the fabricated memories Gaia had woven together for her. Her first kiss on the rooftop, how she cared even so deeply for her supposed boyfriend, Jason. The illusion of a perfect life suddenly shattered one day when her ‘boyfriend’ woke up with no recollection of everything that was supposed to have happened between them. It wasn’t his fault, no, it was never his fault.

So why was Piper so mad at him?

She hated feeling that way, especially when she knew they were all victims by the same trick that evil goddess, Gaia, played on all of them. She knew there was no way for Jason to remember what never even happened between them. Was that supposed to make it better for her? No. But it would have been a sign for her to keep trying & make instead new memories for both her & Jason. But she can’t. She couldn’t. She never will be able to even try. Because he’s dead, gone, slipped away like a balloon you couldn’t reach, no matter how high you jumped, inching away by every second that passes.

That’s why she even had the time to think about all this. There’s no longer this familiar blonde & his stupid smile that she loves to keep her company anymore. No more laughs & smiles to be traded, no more stories to share. No more thoughts to admit. No more problems to solve together.

Heck, she never thought she’d be even wishing for a problem right now!

All she wanted was a second chance. To hug him, scold him, confess her actual love to him. To express her regrets to him. To slap him for dying. To kiss him.

To have an actual future with him.

But it’s all gone. In a flash.

And Piper thought she never cried at funerals.
