The Fat Controller was in a pickle with Gordon off to the works, Henry and James already in the works for mandatory check ups, he needed someone to pull the express, he was going to ask Rebecca but then he remembered she had a crash last month and is currently in the mainland being repaired, he spied Edward and Emily bickering and sighed “I guess It’ll have to be those two”
In the shed Emily Edward argued with Emily about the Thin Clergyman “But you’ve never met the Thin Clergyman Emily off course he has not written books about you, how could he?”
“He could if you introduced me to him when he was here last month”
“He was on holiday with his son and was more interested in fish and chips and the sea side Emily” sighed Edward “And how is this my fault?”
“You shoud’ve introduced us” she retorted back, Thomas approached the turn table
“Oh stop bickering like an old married couple” the two went as red as James.
“Indeed Thomas” said the Fat Controller “Stop bickering and please double for the Express you two will need to keep the train running, Molly and Boco can handle Edwards line until Gordon’s return”
“But sir I have pulled the Express on my own, I don’t need Edwards help”
“Unfortunately Emily we’ve expanded the coaches on the train so your not strong enough, you will team up with Edward”
Soon the two where coupled in front off the Express with Emily at the front “Enjoying the view?” Emily mocked Edward sighed “Seen better”
Toby was coming in with Henrietta and decided to mock them “Oh dear here comes the old married couple” chuckled Toby, Edward barely heard Henrietta telling him to behave, he could’ve sworn he heard Emily gasp, thankfully the guard blew his whistle and they were off.
For the next few days the two pulled the Express really well, on their last trip Emily finally spoke up “I’m sorry Edward for lashing out at you, it was wrong off me”
Edward who was in front just smiled “It’s fine Emily, I get your frustration Rusty and Molly have asked me about the Thin Clergyman for ages, apology is accepted” Emily just smiled as they reached Tidmouth the two chatting away, while Toby looked disappointed “Boo no fun to poke at.
The Thin Clergyman visited the island a few days later and when he went to Tidmouth to see Edward he saw Emily and was in awe “A sterling single still in service, what an impressive young lady off an engine” Edward smiled as he introduced her to the Thin Clergyman, Toby who was in the yard just chuckled “She’s older than Edward” he said to no one in particular.
