Work Text:
Blinking his eyes open, Mei looked around the bedroom, but a certain annoying bespectacled catcher was nowhere to be found. A grumble slipped from his lips as he sat up, placing his feet on the cold wooden floor. He ran a hand through his hair and stood, stretching his arms over his head.
Grabbing a t-shirt, Mei walked out of the bedroom, but he couldn’t find Kazuya. He heard the sound of video games playing from the common room, and followed it. He found Kazuya’s roommate situated in front of the TV, controller in hand with a face of concentration, but no Kazuya.
“You slept in longer than he said you would,” Kuramochi said without looking away from the screen.
Mei glanced over, getting a cup of coffee. “I forgot to set an alarm last night.” He sat on the couch and looked through a newspaper on the table. “Where’s Kazuya?”
Kuramochi cursed, quickly moving his fingers over the controller. “Uh…” His tongue stuck out a little in concentration. “I think he said he wanted to buy something related to Halloween.”
“Kazuya?” Mei frowned at his coffee. “He wanted to buy something?”
“Yeah… It’s weird coming from Miyuki, isn’t it.” Kuramochi laughed a little.
Mei didn’t like the sound of it. Kazuya buying things could never be trusted, especially if… “What did he say he wanted to buy?”
“I think,” Kuramochi paused to focus on his game, “he said something about an outfit.”
Groaning, Mei let his head fall into his hands. “And you let him out the door?”
A frown appeared on Kuramochi’s face. “I was busy,” he paused the game and looked over at Mei. “Besides, he’s not my boyfriend. Maybe you should have gotten up earlier to stop him.”
Mei glared, but couldn’t really say anything since it was true. “Well, he’s your roommate. You want to be seen with whatever hideous outfit he pulls out?”
Shrugging, Kuramochi went back to his game. “It doesn’t really bother me. I’ve dealt with all his crap since high school.”
“Did he at least say where he was going?” Mei asked, turning back to the newspaper and coffee.
“Somewhere on the strip around the corner,” Kuramochi said before a string of curses fell from his lips and he restarted the level he was on.
“Around the corner?” Mei thought about the stores on that expanse of road. There were a few nice places and a couple outlets, but he doubted Kazuya would actually go to one of them. “Oh no…” Kuramochi glanced over at him. There was a thrift store in that area. “He wouldn’t buy that orange and black sweater…”
Kuramochi laughed loudly. “Oh, he probably is.”
Mei grimaced at the thought, imagining the way Kazuya would look like wearing the thing. It was a horrible idea, and he knew that Kazuya would want to wear it everywhere just to annoy him. Maybe he was overreacting. Maybe… Kazuya actually went to buy something normal that wouldn’t make Mei want to burn his eyes out of his head.
He returned to reading the stories on the page in front of him. He probably shouldn’t obsess over it. It’d just drive him crazy. Not long after, the door to the apartment opened, but Mei didn’t look up. “I’m back.”
“Took you long enough!” Kuramochi laughed. “Sleeping Beauty’s up.”
“Hey!” Mei snapped, looking up at both of them.
“Perfect!” Kazuya grinned, eyes falling on Mei. “Look at this sweater I got for Halloween!”
Mei watched in dismay as Kazuya pulled out the very orange and black sweater Mei had hoped he wouldn’t. Kuramochi looked over and laughed while Mei just stared at it. He really wished Kazuya could be trusted to go shopping on his own.
“Do you like it?” Kazuya grinned. Mei couldn’t tell if he was doing this as a joke.
“Burn it,” Mei stated. “Burn it right now.”
