Kitten Whiskers and Woofer

Summary:

Minho is a black street cat that gets adopted by a nice girl named Lily. Then one day she brings a special friend for Minho: a puppy, Minho's worst nightmare.

"Minho seemed so lonely, so I brought him a friend." Lily says to her friend.
"Good idea. They already get along so well, look how close they are, aww."
The "aww" scene in question is Wookyung sitting on Minho, licking his fur and Minho looking at his owner like "are you seeing this shit?"

Notes:

Minho is an adult cat, Wookyung is a puppy

Chapter Text

🐈‍⬛

Minho was licking his paws when the door opened. He gets up to greet his human, a pink haired woman named Lily. He goes to her but doesn't rub himself against her legs like other cats. He finds it childish.

"Aww still pretending you didn't miss me Minho?" She gets close to him and Minho allows her to scratch his ears. Then she touches his favorite spot and he starts to purr. But not too much cause he has a reputation to keep.

"You're so cute! So cute!" She keeps scratching him and Minho's purring gets louder.

Six months ago, when he was a street cat, Lily rescued him from the snow. If she didn't find him, Minho would have been dead. Nobody liked him because of his dark fur but Lily chose to be his human.

Minho feels very grateful for it and loves his human very much but he'd never admit it. A cat must uphold a certain dignity and not act like dog, a disgraceful creature devoid of self respect.

"I have a surprise for you today." She says while petting him.

Minho's ears perk up. He loves surprises, especially from Lily. Her surprises are always nice. Sometimes it's new toy or his favorite— tuna, he loves tuna.

"Is it tuna?" he asks but she only hears his meows.

"You're excited aren't you? I've brought you a friend!"

A friend? Is it another cat? Well, Minho loves his solitudes but it wouldn't be so bad to have another cat around. But it's better not be a girl. He is already fed up with female attentions from the female cats in this neighborhood, he doesn't want a constant fangirl bothering him 24/7. But if she's a kitten, he'll raise her like his little sister. Minho wouldn't mind a little sister or a brother.

"Look who's here!" She suddenly holds the furry animal in front of him and Minho freezes.

This is not a cat. This is something unfortunate, something pathetic.

A puppy.

"Woof!" The thing yips, eyes bright, wagging its tail, tongue out already trying to lick Minho.

How undignified!

“Oh, look! He likes you already!” Lily beams.

"Well I do not. Put that thing back where you found it." He protests vehemently as he takes a step back but due to translation error, only an irritated mrreow comes out.

"Don't be afraid Minho, Wookyung is friendly."

Oh so that thing has a name.

"I'm not afraid, I'm disgusted. Why aren't you kicking it out already? It probably carries disease."

But alas Lily doesn't understand him at all. Instead of kicking out that hazardous creature out of her apartment, she puts it down on the floor.

And it woobles, as expected from such inelegant creature. Then tries to take a step but it slips and falls face first, with a soft plop on the floor.

"This is what you brought into our home?” he asks, equal parts disbelief and offense. "Look at it! It can barely function."

Despite the slander, Wookyung manages to get up without crying. He's a big boy now, he can't cry. Not in front of new friend. He's probably waiting for Wookyung to greet him properly.

So gathering his courage, he takes a step forward and walks closer to Minho, his new best friend.

The cat hisses at him and Wookyung stops for a moment. Maybe that's how cats greet each other. Wookyung wags his tail and continues to get closer, wanting to greet Minho in proper dog way, that is— sniffing each other's butts.

Wookyung lowers his head, sniffing curiously, with his pink snout, trying to locate the appropriate greeting area. This is how it works. He knows this cause he has seen others do it. This is the correct and respectful way to introduce oneself.

Despite Minho's warning, that thing continues to get closer and to his utter horror, it shoves his nose down to his...

Absolutely not!

So far he has shown restraint for his human's sake, but Minho would not stand for such utter vulgarity, such crudity, such rusticity!

Minho has been learning new words from that talking square thing in Lily's room and uses them when the situation fits. And this incident can not be more perfect to unleash his improved thesaurus along with his paw prowess.

His paw shoots out in a series of lightning-quick, perfectly executed swats—pat-pat-pat-pat-pat!

Each one delivered with the surgical disdain of a duelist flicking away an offending crumb. Then he jumps away, hissing once again, removing himself from the vicinity of this foul creature.

Wookyung on the other hand is overwhelmed by sudden onslaught of kitty paw on his forehead and when he gathers himself, his best friend is standing far away from him, behind a door.

He looks at Lily in confusion, ear dropped in sadness. Lily chuckles in amusement and picks him up and caresses his forehead. "Aww Minho don't be so mean." She says while cradling Wookyung. "Don't worry Wookyung, Minho may seem unfriendly but he's a softie inside. He'll love you in no time." Lily laughs softly.

"I WILL DO NO SUCH THING!" Minho protests as his head pops around the edge of the door, just to glare at the offending mutt.

Wookyung isn't a mutt, rather a special breed, but to Minho, every dog is a dirty, ill smelling, fetid, malodorous, disease spreading mutt.

His experience with those canine creatures in his street life didn't help restoring their reputation either.

Always galloping about like common thugs, knocking over bins, rolling in unspeakable things, and leaving revolting scent on every respectable lamppost.

Minho loathed them. And he loathes this golden ambulatory carpet of fleas and folly who's currently looking at him with those round guileless eyes. Not a single thought behind those golden orbs.

"Hmpf." Minho walks away grumpily. If Lily wants to keep it, he can't do anything about it. But he will not accept this ridiculous thing as his friend. Other cats will laugh at him if they spot Minho with him.

Minho will be sure to keep his distance and ignore its existence. But Lily has to face punishment for betraying Minho like this. Maybe not too harsh, he loves her after all, but harsh enough to never bring another creature into their house again. Maybe he'll stop talking to her for a few days. That will teach–

"Ooh tuna!" Minho rushes at the feeding bowl, leaving his half formed thoughts behind.

Okay he'll accept this apology and not punish Lily. But he'll definitely keep his distance from that thing.

But Minho forgot one thing, just because he wants to keep  his distance, doesn't mean Wookyung would.
