Work Text:
Subaru… was in love.
It was something she was sure about. Very incredibly sure.
In love with whom, at this bookshop cafe, of all places?
Good question. She doesn't know either. She's never found the courage to talk to him. From his interactions with another worker there however, she could guess that his name was Saku. Bless that equally pretty lady…
The question that should be asked though is how she was in love. It wasn't like they ever interacted over these 2 months, nor has he ever showed his face. So how?
It was just… he had this aura, this… energy, that spoke to her. He always wore this hoodie and a mask, sometimes without the hood, and with a beanie, kr simply just tying his hair at the back of his head into a bun. Needless to say, though, he was so gosh darn pretty.
Oh so soft on Subaru's eyes… she just had to share.
Unfortunately, as soon as Suzuka's focus on him wavered, she started staring at Subaru with a smirk. Subaru knew all too well what that meant.
"You should totes ask him out." Suzu said. Subaru nearly choked on her drink.
"W… What do you mean… I don't even have the confidence to talk to onii-san…" she moped. Suzu waved her off, swirling her own drink around.
"What? Nonesense. Here, I'll help."
"Help-?"
"Yo, waiter! Can we- mmph!?"
Subaru grabbed a donut and shoved it in her mouth, shushing her up. But, of course, because the world hates her, it was too late.
He'd heard them, and was coming their way.
"Yes, may I… er, is she alright…?" he asked, startling Subaru. Ah, what a voice.
…eh.
"A-Apologies! W-We're…" she said. She shoom her head, hyping herself up. Come on, just a little more.
You can do it, you damn head over heels woman! Go!
"Actually… Onee-san, when is your next break?" she asked, reading his nametag. "If it's not too much to ask… could we… share some donuts?"
He blinked, but smiled. Even with a mask on, you could see a smile in his eyes… wow.
"Of course, Subaru-sama, I'd be happy to." he said, sending Subaru's heart aflutter. "My next break is in a few minutes, bare with me." he said. Subaru nodded, relieved. He snapped his fingers.
"Oh, and you can call me Sayuu." Sayuu said, pulling his mask down.
Or… her mask.
Oh she was so damn pretty. Incredibly. Subaru can't think of the words to describe it, and neither can I. It exudes this radioactive radiance, that small teasing smile, her cute as a button nose — and let's not get started on her eyes.
Sayuu waved at them, pulled her mask back up, and headed back for the cafe kitchen, retreating from Subaru's line of sight. There was a noticeable spring in her step as she went off.
Speaking of Subaru…
Yep. Totally in love. Her heart did so many flips it's a miracle it's still beating.
Eventually, Suzuka came back from her coughing fit. "D-Damn… lucky girl you are…"
Extra: Names are Hard!
I head back into the kitchen and slump down behind the door.
Gehh… it really just happened… she asked me out.
And I was so confident too… what a day.
"Saku! We need- eh! I'm sorry!" a voice suddenly called out. "Sayuu. Ah, I'm so sorry. Names are hard!" Nada added. I can't respond, I'm still in septic shock.
"Sayuu? Sayuu where are… heh. Let me guess, that customer you're always staring at talked to you?"
"Yesh… invited me on a date too…" I unintentionally say.
Nada stares at me, incredulously.
"HUH!?"
She grabs my shoulders and stands me up.
"Tell me your secrets!"
"I dunno, transition?" I joke. Nada nods.
"Hmm… yes… it's the perfect plan… alright, from now on, you call me Narita." she says. I choke.
"N-Not actually."
"Duhh, it was a joke, dumbass. Still, so happy for you." she said, slinging an arm over my shoulders.
"Told you it wasn't a bad thing." she said. "Sayuu is a much better sibling!" she joked again. I roll my eyes.
"Thanks for helping me out with all that stuff too." I say, smiling bashfully. "Who would have thought… heartthrob Saku would be heartthrob Sayuu one day."
Nada scoffed. "Alright, that's enough ego boosting. Go help Mio."
"Fine fine."
