I'll Be True to You

Summary:

Soundman and Pocoloco have agreed on parting ways for the rest of the race.

Pocoloco didn’t know what Soundman was planning to do exactly, but he bid him farewell.

Work Text:

With The two laying down face to face, they couldn’t help but focus on each other. Soundman took notice of Pocoloco’s weary eyes, close to drifting asleep. Pocoloco contemplated whether Soundman preferred the cold at night, or if he was too prideful in asking to share Pocoloco’s blanket.

“We’re in the prime of our lives. Just now starting to live, to figure out what we want to do. You better not waste yours.”

Pocoloco said quietly, his eyes finally meeting Soundman’s.

“I’m not wasting it, if I’m spending it with you.”

Muttered Soundman, gazing at him. Pocoloco looked at him incredulously, shoving him softly with a lazy grin.

“Don’t be sappy.”

Soundman could only smile, shaking his head.

“I can’t help it.” He replied, leaning in close.

Finally noticing how close they were, their foreheads were already touching. It was only for a brief moment, because Soundman reached his hand out to pull Pocoloco down to his chest. Pocoloco didn’t mind, as he could hide his amusement.

Soundman’s arms wrapped around Pocoloco, keeping him close. He breathed in, finding comfort in the familiar scent.

“We’ll see each other again, it’s a promise.”

Soundman spoke, staring at nothing. It was good that Pocoloco couldn't see the sorrow on his face.

“By then, the both of us would have accomplished our dreams.”

Pocoloco voice was soft, his eyes shut. It didn’t take long for him to stop tossing and turning, asleep in Soundman’s arms.

And yet, Soundman was still in low spirits.

“I love you.”

Soundman whispered, before letting go.

The sun had awoken Pocoloco, yawning. He looked around him to find Soundman gone without a trace. That was expected. But he remembered something important, quickly moving his body upright.

“I didn’t get to tell him that I love him.”

Pocoloco frowned, looking up at the sky. It was a new day. He packed up his things, his mind lingering on Soundman.

But it was fine. There would be another time where he could tell him, right?

Notes:

Every so often I look at the pocoloco/sandman tag to see if anything new has come up. Ahhh!
