Chapter Text

The birds chirped with the winds singsongs as Hajime Hinata, a wanted man, continued to wander through the city's forest. They say that the forests in the Novoselic kingdom are nothing but wonders for one's health. Stories of the healing lakes and magical creatures of this place had been told all over Towa Province. Hajime hadn't been a resident there for long and even he got to have a taste of the foretellers stories of this place. But now, that Hajime was running on a haste through this ''wonderous'' forest, he did not feel so healed.

Hajime did not know how long he had been running for his life nor if the hunters had lost him. All he could hear was his footsteps as his feet landed heavily on the crunchy leafs bellow him. The voices that belonged to the hunters could be heard from behind. They were quite far away but Hajime didn't let it calm him. He knew better than to let his guard down when getting chased. Hajime had unfortunately learnt that the hard way where back in Zitero, he was captured by the prison guards. Hajime had grown used to this feeling. Knowing that one wrong move and he could be sent to a far away prison, perhaps executed or even worse, used for experiments.

Constantly running away throughout his life, trying to desperately escape his past powers and keep a low profile. No matter how many nations he'd travel to, they always seemed to detect his presence. Hajime started to hear the voices come closer, making his pulse raise and his shoulders tense. He could not let them capture him.

Hajime made a quick turn from one of the trees and spotted two men, one with average height and one dramatically short. Hajime panicked and crouched below one of the bushes close to the tree. Who were they? Guards from the Novoselic kingdom? Hajime thought to himself as he took his time to analyze the strangers and their widely different appearances.

The one with the normal height was wearing shiny silver armor, his weapon weighing heavy on his back where a red cape rested with the Novoselic symbol. Ah, so a Novoselic knight. What should've been a normal looking knight made Hajime almost question if he was seeing things right. The knight's helmet was off, showing his odd appearance. The man had messy pink hair, pink hair of all things. He bared a crooked smile that showed his weirdly sharp teeth. Dear Lord, he looked rather ridiculous.

The short one on the other hand, wore a calmer more serious expression. His blonde hair was close to a buzz cut, showing a slight design on both sides of his head. He was wearing a yellow suit with golden threads. He wore golden earrings that were shining in the Novoselic sun. His nails were quite long, yellow and depicted desgins of what seemed to be magical patterns. The patterns followed to the rest of his arms. What shocked Hajime the most was the man's babyface. The man was so adorable yet he bared such a terrifying stare.

The pink one suddenly jolted with happiness which made both Hajime and the blonde one jump. ''What?'' Came an angry deep voice that surprisingly belonged to the babyface man.

''These are the exact flowers I was searching for!'' Came a squicky voice from the pink one as he held up what seemed to be white roses. ''Look, look!'' He shoved the flowers in the other one's direction.

The blonde one pushed his hand away with annoyance. ''For goodness sake'' he groaned ''I'm not blind Kazuichi, I can see just fine from here.''

The pink one who's name apparently was ''Kazuchi'' let out a scoff ''Aren’t you happy for me?'' He glanced at the flowers in his hand ''These would look great with Miss Sonia’s dress for the royal ball, would they not?'' Kazuichi grinned sheepishly.

The blonde one rolled his eyes so far back his head that Hajime thought they might get stuck. ''You should give up on her. This is truly saddening, you know?''

''Oh come on Fuyuhiko, I totally have a chance with her!'' Kazuichi whined.
These people were quite odd. Was all Hajime could think of before panic rushed through him again. The hunters, they were here. In fact, they were running toward the two strangers he'd spotted. The one called ''Fuyuhiko'' stepped in front of Kazuchi, possibly to protect him despite their height difference. He lifted his hand, extending his palm to the hunters faces.

''Who do you think you are?! Running towards us all angry looking with arrows at your hands? State your fucking business!'' Fuyuhiko gritted his teeth as he awaited their responses.

''W-we..uh'' one of the hunters breathed out, struggling to speak from exhaustion. ''Have you seen a man running from this direction?'' He finally asked. The other hunters standing next to him, their heads turning from time to time as their eyes searched for prey.

''A man?'' Fuyuhiko questioned, his eyebrow raising in curiosity.

''Yes, with short spiky brown hair.'' One of the hunters informed ''His eye color can be quite difficult to decipher, as it changes color frequently.''

''Changes color?'' This time, it was Kazuchi asking a question.

''Yes, yes! They change from hazel to red. The eyes of Kamakura!'' Another hunter exclaimed warily, glancing at his sides as if awaiting Hajime to attack.

''Kamakura? Who the hell-'' Kazuchi asked before Fuyuhiko interrupted him.

''The tale of the ultimate hope.'' His words sounding more like a statement rather than a question. ''He's here?''

''Yes, we just saw-''
''Have you people gone mad?'' Fuyuhiko asked furiously. ''That man hasn't lived for over a millenia! Do not spout nonsense like this when I already have to deal with this sack of shit!'' Fuyuhiko gestured angrily towards the Novoselic knight he accompanied. Kazuichi's eyes widened in suprise before he angrily shot back a ''Hey!''.

''No you do not understand sir! It is not the original one! They say that he's been reborn!''

Fuyuhiko stared at the men with a tense expression for what almost felt like forever. Fuyuhiko snorted before breaking into uncontrollable laughter. ''That's the worst shit I've heard all week!'' He wheezed ''This is even worse than those made-up stories my professor tells me.''

Their voices kept coming as Hajime was contemplating on how to escape from this mess. He could not just leave, they might hear his footsteps. Hajime was far too close to be reckless. He was desperate and petrified but could not waste a chance of escape. He had to sneak his way out of this threshold, somehow without anyone noticing. Hajime could perform a spell or perhaps use more force if necessary. But he could not attempt at using the Kamakura powers. Never again should it come to that.

He could still remember the chaos, the blood and screams of terror. Hajime bit back a cry as his thoughts brought him back to that horrific place which he has tried so desperately to flee from. Hajime took a deep breath before focusing on the task at hand. He felt the electricity run through him before he finally felt a swift shift at his body. Hajime looked up from the ground to find himself in a bush elsewhere, far away from the hunters. His attempt at teleporting had been a success. What a relief. Hajime let out a breath he hadn't known he was holding before he quickly stood up and proceeded to run from the forest grounds.

-

Hajime found himself in Cobain, the capital of Novoselic. The city was filled with life, showcasing laughter and ruckuss at every corner. People were present everywhere Hajime looked and he was starting to feel nauseous. Hajime kept reassuring himself that he needn't feel fear at this very moment. The hunters had lost him long ago and he was hiding himself with his cape, its hood covering his face from foes.

Hajime continued to move through the lively city, holding on to his cape in fear of it slipping from his grip. Hajime's parcels in his bag let out coherent sounds. His footsteps were entertainng those noises as he ventured quickly past the crowd. Hajime did not know where to go or how he might survive the night. The only thing he could think of at that very moment was food. Hajime had been so caught up in his chase that he had completely forgotten his empty stomach.

There must be stores selling edibles all over the town. The problem was how he was going to pay for it. Hajime had no money and certainly no Novoselic currency in his pockets. Hajime had considered stealing from time to time but his mother's whispers would immediately stop him from doing so. Her voice still haunted Hajime, constantly scolding him and reminding him of his failures in life. He had to get himself together and find food quickly, before the sun sets. It was still quite early in the day as the sun shone as beautifully as ever. However, hajime still wanted time left to find shelter before the night. He walked through the streets of the city, his eyes searching for a restaurant or perhaps a bakery.

He was starting to lose hope before his eyes laid on a sign. ''Hanamura diner'' it read, showcasing a meat on the bone next to it. Hajime was so relieved he could almost cry. He did not have money, but he did own gold. Not just the gold itself, but a golden pocket knife given from his father before he'd abandoned him. Hajime did not know if they'd take it as fee but he had to try something before passing out from starvation. Hajime hesitantly opened the door, hearing a bell ring as he entered. The diner was quite full, making Hajime immediately regret walking in. He shouldn't leave so soon, not when he needed to eat so badly.

Hajime slowly but surley, made his way through the diner to reach the counter. People were seated everywhere, chatting in full volume, laughing as if there were no burdens in their lives. Hajime eagerly waited for a worker to arrive at the counter as it was currently empty. He could only see workers in the far back, where the kitchen could be spotted. It smelt of chicken soup, bread and wine. He could almost melt in the smell, of its deliciousness as he imagined consuming it all. Hajime's stomach growled impatiently as he kept waiting, looking around warily from time to time. Finally, a worker had arrived. Another ridiculous looking individual. It was a man wearing a chef hat and an apron. He was extremely short, even shorter than the ''Fuyuhiko'' Hajime had seen at the forest.

''Good evening sir!'' The man greeted with a mischievous smile on his face. ''What would you like to feast upon today? Some of our new cuisines or perhaps you came here for me?'' The man smirked at that.

Was he flirting with me? Hajime thought to himself, suddenly forgetting what he'd wanted to say. ''I-uh...'' he mumbled before the chef slid him the menu on the counter.

''Take your time, dear'' He winked at Hajime before returning to the kitchen. Hajime picked it up with both of his hands, his eyes glancing at the options. He hadn't known what to pick from all the various options. Maybe corn on the cob, or the chicken soup he had smelt, or a rice bowl, maybe even some bread.

Hajime didn't know how long he'd been browsing before the same worker had returned. ''Anything that piqued your interest?'' He questioned, his brow rising.

''You can pick for me.'' Hajime finally let out, akawardly smiling at him.
''Oh?'' He mumbled before grinning. ''I'll hook you up with the best that we have sir!'' He let out in excitement. ''I already have a dish in mind! It'll be 70 novos, and do not even think of looking at the menu with the price in mind. The dish shall be a suprise!'' He smiled, his eyes brimming with joy.

Hajime akawardly smiled back, reaching for his back pocket to retrieve his golden pocket knife. Hajime extended his hand holding the knife before the man flinched. ''Hey, hey now! I can assure you that the price is very much suited for the dish I picked out!''

Hajime let the knife drop to the counter, swaying his hands in the air. ''Oh God, no, no! I wasn't going to harm you! I'd like to use this as currency.''

The chef looked a bit skeptical before picking up the knife and inspecting it. His eyes shone in astonishment as he traced its patterns with his other hand. ''It is quite beautiful.''

''Yes, it is made out of real gold. Will it do as payment?''

The man snorted ''Will it do as payment?'' He laughed. ''Something as grand as this could be used to pay for much more than any dish served at this diner!''

''That's wonderful to hear-''

''In fact, I think you should be treated to much more than just one dish. I'll make you a whole feast to bring with you to your home. I'm sure your family would love for you to bring some food for them. Does that sound good, dear?'' He smiled, still holding onto the golden pocket knife.

My family. Hajime hadn't seen them in a while, nor did he want to. Not after they'd left him in the hands of those foul sorcerers who made him into this. ''Yes, my family would be very happy to feast on your food.'' The word ''family'' felt unfamiliar in Hajime's mouth, like the word didn't belong with his voice. Regarding the food, he could feast on it himself during the time he'd stay here in Novoselic. That way, he wouldn't have to worry about food for some time.

''Ah, since you allow me to have more than one dish, could I also have kusamochi for dessert?'' Kusamochi has long been Hajime's favorite food since he was a young boy. He had seen it on the menu but did not want to waste his only fee on something that wouldn't satisfy his hunger completely.

''Oh, but of course! I'll place the dishes in a bag for you to bring home. See you in a bit!'' At that, the man went back into the kitchen. Hajime slowly exhaled and let his shoulders relax. He had successfully ran from the hunters and ordered food at a diner. Maybe things could go well after all. The bell could be heard ringing in the far back of the diner before the door shut. Footsteps made their way to the counter and their owners were now standing to Hajime's left. He was still wearing his hood that helped with covering his face but he couldn't help but feel frightened. What frightened Hajime the most was the familiar voice that spoke beside him.

It was the voice of the Novoselic knight, Kazuchi. ''I'm so hungry I could eat the roses I found. Do you think Teruteru will come anytime soon? I do not see him-''

''Be patient. We've just arrived.'' Fuyuhiko responded with a hint of irritation in his voice.

What were the odds of the same men I found in the forest to reappear at the diner? What shall I do in this predicament?
Hajime's thoughts were interrupted by someone poking him on the shoulder. Hajime's body tensed immediately as he slowly turned around, but not fully as he did not want them to get a good look on his face. It was the knight, Kazuchi casually grinning at him. ''White roses are a perfect gift for a woman, don't you think?''

''What the hell are you doing?'' Fuyuhiko hissed at him before turning his face towards Hajime. ''I am terribly sorry for my partner's embarrassing behavior. Please excuse him, his brain only carries one brain cell.''

This was not taken well by his so called ''partner'' who made an effort to turn his head dramatically towards his companion.
''Fuyuhiko, can't you go through a whole day without insulting the living shit out of me?'' He spat out angrily, rolling his eyes the same way that Fuyuhiko had done back in the forest. They compliment each other well.

''How could I ever do that when you make it so easy to insult you?'' Fuyuhiko grinned viciously.

''I do not want to speak with you any longer!'' He gritted his teeth at Fuyuhiko before turning his head back to Hajime. Hajime felt like making a run for it right there and then. ''What is your name, stranger?'' He teased.

Hajime stared at him for a moment, processing the question as panic rushed through him. Should he give out his real name or should he create a fake one? What would be the purpose of lying though? It's not like people are looking for a man by the name Hajime Hinata. The name that will turn heads would be Izuru Kamakura.
Hajime swallowed carefully, preparing to speak as if he were to give a speech. ''Hajime.''

Both men stared at him with dull eyes, waiting for Hajime to possibly add more. He didn't. ''Ha-ji-meeeee'' Kazuchi spoke in a playful tone ''it's quite fun to say.'' He teased.

Hajime took a hold of his hood, gripped it harder as he tried to calm his heart. The blonde one, Fuyuhiko seemed to sense Hajime's fear. He began to frown as he looked over at him with doubt. ''Are you well?'' He proceeded to ask him, his eyes analyzing Hajime's every movement.

''I-Uh..''

''You're obviously making the guy nervous, Fuyuhiko. It's not everyday you get to meet a scholar from the Kuzuryu family.'' Kazuchi stated, as if it were a well known fact.

Hajime's heart began to raise even more now. A scholar?  That would explain his curious nature and calm exterior. He's a part of the well known family of scholars. They're family line has studied magic for generations and helped multiple nations maintain its stability. If Fuyuhiko were to find him out, he'd be ruined. Surely he'll know of the forbidden power Hajime possesses.

Fuyuhiko’s face lit up as he moved closer, parting his lips before asking. ''Do your eyes always do that?''

Hajime almost forgot how to breathe. Fuyuhiko sure was the observant type.

Hajime had made up his mind, lost interest in any other thought he had except the one telling him to flee. In a quick haste, Hajime rushed out through the diner, the bell ringing loud and clear for everyone to hear. Kazuichi shouted after him but Hajime didn't look back, too scared to even dare. All Hajime could think of was of his foolishness. How could he ever think to face society in his condition? This was going to be a lot more difficult than he thought.

-

Hajime found himself running out of fear again, desperately aching for a day where he might not have to anymore. He made a quick stop somewhere far into the city, allowing himself to relax as he struggled to maintain his breathing. Great, not only did he not get any food but he also wasted the only thing he owned that had worth. Hajime was furious of his situation and at himself for getting carried away like this. He couldn't help but let out a groan as he covered his face with both of his hands. What would he do now?

''Sir, you seem quite upset'' came a stranger's voice.

''Upset'' was an understatement to what he was really feeling. Hajime removed his hands from his face so he could see the stranger that spoke to him. It was a middle aged man with black hair and a smile plastered on his face.

''I do not mean to invade your personal matters, but perhaps you'd feel better after watching my daughter's performance.'' The man gestured to the far corner of the street, where a group of people were gathered in a circle.

''Your daughter?'' Hajime echoed.
''Yes, she's very talented and can usually lighten up one's mood!'' He gestured with his head to the direction of the crowd as he walked to it, indicating that Hajime should follow him. He did as he hoped it was not some sort of trap by the hunters.

As they made it to the crowd, Hajime could see a girl his age, standing in the middle of it. She wore crop top and a long dress that had various colors. Red, blue, purple, pink and some Hajime couldn't decipher. Her hair was rather eccentric, having also various colors and two horns placed at her head. The man told Hajime to sit on one of the chairs, so he did.

The crowd started to cheer as the girl sang. She sat on a cajón that she played on as her voice grew stronger by the minute. The crowd went wilde, her song was vivid, as if it were a dream. She got up from the cajón and started to dance as the crowd clapped their hands. The cheer grew louder and louder and Hajime found himself also clapping his hands to the beat. He would be lying if I said that he didn't enjoy it. The girl was talented, her song a bit odd but still astonishing. The song came to an abrupt end as the girl bowed to the crowd. The crowd was now quiter after the performance. The man walked up to his daughter and hugged her tight. ''That was beautiful as always Ibuki, dear!'' He smiled.

She thanked him before her eyes spotted Hajime. Her smile grew wider as she walked up to him eagerly. ''Who's this, father?''

''A young man I found crying on the streets. I simply wanted him to be cheered up by your marvelous performance.'' He clasped his hands together.

Crying?!

''Oh, well I sure hope that it worked! Haha!'' Ibuki wore a wide smile, her eyes bright as ever.

Hajime swallowed his worries and spoke. ''I suppose I do feel a bit lighter.''

''Great! Now let me take a bite outta ya!'' She grinned before running towards him. Hajime jumped as he tried to get away.

''What are you-''

''Come here you silly goose!'' She laughed.

Would every encounter be with weird individuals or was Hajime just extremely unlucky? Nevertheless, he was now running away from a woman he just met who wanted to bite him. Could this day get any worse? What was even more ridiculous was the fact that her father just laughed at the situation. Thankfully, someone interrupted this terrifying scene before anyone got hurt.

''Mr Mioda! We need help with the workshop!'' A man yelled out to Ibuki's father. The father nodded before turning to his daughter.
''Is everything alright?'' Ibuki asked, her joy diminishing.
''Yes, do not worry dear! I have to repair a few...issues. I won't be long.'' And with that, he left with the other man.

Hajime felt a little uneasy as her father left. He almost thought the daughter was going to try and bite him again, but she didn't. Her mood seemed to have shifted, her smile having been replaced with a frown. ''He always has issues with the workshop.'' She sighed. ''He won't have to worry of that old place once I get famous for my music!'' The smile was now back, not as strong as before though.

''I believe I should go-''

''Not before you tell me your name!'' She took a hold of his arm. ''Come on, new friend! Don't be shy, I don't bite.''

''Are you sure about that?'' Hajime narrowed his eyes at her. She laughed. ''You caught Ibuki red handed!''

Hajime was silent for a moment before sighing. ''Hajime. It's Hajime.''

''And my name is Ibuki! Ibuki Mioda! I'm sure you've heard of me in this town.''

''No, I have not. I'm not from here.''

Ibuki made an audible gasp before grabbing Hajime's shoulders. ''A new comer! How delightful! What do you think of our music?''

''I've only heard yours so far.''
''And that is enough, silly.'' She smiled.

One thing led to another as Hajime found himself getting a tour of the town by Ibuki Mioda, who he barley knew. She was constantly brimming with joy, explaining every aspect of the town as if it were a utopia. Her explanations were rather exaggerated and sometimes would lack sense. She'd say things such as ''That is the clothing stores were you get to travel through the magic of every fabric!'' And ''That is the water fountain where you get to feel yourself become one with-uh well...the water!''
As much as Hajime was grateful for her kindness, he was extremely exhausted. Not only was he still hungry, but his whole body hurt from running all day. As if Ibuki had heard his thoughts, she turned to him and smiled. ''Would you like to take a break?''

''That would be lovely, yes.''

''Very well!'' She let out before grabbing onto to his legs. ''Wha-what are you-''

''Man, you're quite heavy!'' She attempted at lifting him up, which she failed miserably at. Hajime's weight made Ibuki lose her balance, leading to them both falling to the ground. Hajime put one hand to his forehead as he groaned. ''Why do you always-ugh you're exhausting to be around!''

''I've been told.'' She laughed, still visibly in pain from the fall. She grinned sheepishly as she looked at him. ''I thought if I carried you, we could still walk through the town without worrying of your exhaustion.''

''That's a stupid idea.'' Hajime muttered.
Silence followed after that which Ibuki later broke.

''Want me to try again-''

''No!'' Hajime yelled out which surprised the both of them. Ibuki stared at him in astonishment as Hajime cleared his throat.

''P-pardon me.'' He hesitated ''That won't be necessary. I'm very grateful for your welcoming spirit but I shall take my leave now.'' Hajime got up slowly from the ground, his knees still aching from the fall. ''Awww, leaving so soon already? What shall I do on my own?''

''That's for you to figure out.'' Hajime turned to leave before he felt a sudden pull at his leg. ''Hey!'' He yelled as Ibuki continued to hold on to him.

''Don't leave me Hajime! Not when I'm so incredibly boreeeed!''

''Miss, you do not understand! I-I can't stay here for long!''

''Why ever not?'' She made a puppy face at him.

Hajime stared at her for a moment, struggling to form a sentence. ''I just can't-''

A sudden crashing noise could be heard somewhere in the city, making Hajime and Ibuki jump in fear. The sound followed troubled voices of the townsfolk. Blood curling screams continued to sway with the city's wind.

Hajime stood there like a statue as he forgot how to breathe. He finally mumbled the words ''What was that?'' Before a terrifying thought hit him. Could it be the hunters who were seeking for him? Did he put the civilians of this city in danger simply by being here? Oh dear, it felt like he was about to pass out.

For a moment he thought that would be possible until Ibuki nudged his arm, seeming to have gotten up from the ground already. ''We should go there.'' She spoke, with no hint of her previous lively persona. She seemed rather worried, her brows curved to an almost angry expression.

''Ibuki, no-no that's not a good idea-''

''My father could be hurt.'' She spoke with an uneasy tone before she sprinted toward the chaos within the city. Hajime stared at her silhouette as it disappeared farther and farther away. He contemplated his options, should he follow her and risk getting sent back to that foul prison? Or, should he abandon her and make a run for it? This was all rather cruel, how could Hajime choose? He sighed, a deep one at that. He was doomed. Hajime started to run after Ibuki, regretting his decision by every step he took but never faltering.

-

Hajime stood there in absolute silence. He felt petrified at the scene and could only stare in fear. Hajime had been wrong. Oh so very wrong.
He and Ibuki had reached the commotion only to find a terrifying scene. What he was looking at then was not the hunters but rather a ginormous entity with numerous eyes and a wide mouth with numerous teeth. The screams hadn't stopped, people were still running for their lives.

''T-this is bad! Oh God! I might just faint!'' Ibuki made a dramatic gesture with her hand before summoming a blade. The blade was sharp and had a slight tint of violet. Hajime panicked at the sight of it. She wasn't going to fight that thing right?

''What are you-" was all Hajime could say before she shushed him with one finger up to his lips.
''Stay here, I'll try to finish this quickly.'' She grinned before running towards the monster.

Was she crazy?! There was no way she could take that humongous beast on her own. Where were the Novoselic gaurds that patrolled the city? It's absurd for a civilian to have to fight a monster rather than those who are meant to protect the people. Hajime stood there, baffled as he once again had to pick between two options. Should he help her or risk unleashing his forbidden powers or should he leave while he still could? It didn't take long for him to decide, he just hoped that the repercussions wouldn't be disastrous. Hajime ran after her, preparing a protection shield with his electric power. He made it in front of Ibuki and unleashed a round golden shield before the monster could hit her. The entity seemed displeased by his failed attack and tried to hit again. Once again, Hajime's shield blocked it.

''I told you to stay put Hajime! You can't take all the spotlight!'' Ibuki yelled out.

Hajime turned to face her with the intention of responding but was interrupted by the monster. The entity pushed Hajime out of the way, making him land on the water fountain. Hajime got up as he felt his soaked clothes touch every part of his skin. His back was hurting tremendously but he had to get up. And so he did, though it took a lot of effort.

Hajime squinted his eyes to avoid the agitating Novoselic sun as he searched for Ibuki. She was fighting the monster as if it were a game. Every now and then, she'd dance or twirl whilist getting attacked. Did she not understand how serious this was? Atleast the townsfolk seemed to take it seriously. Most of them were hiding indoors or behind buildings, bearing terrified expressions.

Ibuki jumped high enough to reach the monster's face, if you could even call it that. She made one last twirl in the air before striking it with her blade. She landed on the ground as the entity fell from defeat. People got out of their hiding spots, relieved and happy for their beloved hero. Ibuki's father came quickly to hug her tight, checking her arms for bruises and laughing from relief. Something was wrong. Hajime’s gut feeling told him to keep his gaurd up. In a blink of an eye, he saw the monster twitch. It was such a quick and small movement that Hajime might have just imagined it. But he knew he didn't. Hajime started sprinting towards Ibuki, preparing another shield with his right hand. ''Ibuki! It's still alive-''

The monster swooped Ibuki from the scene in an instant. She yelled out in fear, her hand desperately reaching for her father who also reached for her. Panic broke out once more and Hajime found it that he had no choice but to unleash his other powers. To unleash him.

The monster started hitting everything in its presence. Buildings fell apart and dust and rubble spread throughout the town. People were running from different directions making it hard to see one's surroundings.

Hajime tried to focus, relax his mind as he tried to summon him. At first, it felt empty. No change occurred and Hajime was starting to panic. But then came a familiar sensation. A voice spoke from the back of his mind. ''How boring.''

Before Hajime could respond, he felt himself lose control of his body. He was still there, present and aware of the chaos. However, he could not move his limbs, only observe as Izuru took a hold of the situation. He felt himself move, quickly and without difficulty towards the monster. His eyes were now piercing red as black magic surrounded him. The black magic created a bunch of shadows, vile shadows who were hungry for blood. They emerged from Hajime's body and immediately impaled the monster. It started to yell out in agony as Hajime felt himself gain it's energy. The entity ended up letting go of Ibuki who was now falling to her doom. In a quick haste, Hajime's body moved to catch her in his arms. She stared at him with shock written all over her face. Her mouth was agape and she struggled to form words.

''It's dead now. I drained all of its energy.'' He felt Izuru say before he slowly disappeared, leaving Hajime back in control.

Hajime blinked a few times before looking at the girl he was carrying. Ibuki was still shocked, her eyes never leaving Hajime.

''Are you oka-''

''That was amazing!'' Her eyes lit up in astonishment, she clasped her hands and smiled. ''I had no idea you carried such strength! You don't look like the strong type.''

''I uh-what'' He shook his head, trying to ignore the last remark. ''You mustn't tell anyone.''

Hajime was lucky that the destruction of the buildings made their surroundings foggy. It was hard to see things and the townsfolk all ran towards different directions. He just had to make sure that Ibuki wouldn't tell on him.

''Nonsense!'' She quickly let go off Hajime, her feet landing swiftly on the ground. ''You could become our hero!''

Absolutely not. They would hunt him down.
''Ibuki you-''

People could be heard from afar. They were hard to identify due to the fog. Hajime panicked and quickly took a hold of Ibuki's wrist. She let out a yelp as Hajime led her farther away from the strangers. He found an empty building that surprisingly wasn't destroyed. He ran inside, closed the door and let go of Ibuki's wrist. Hajime was turned away from her, contemplating on how he would stop her from exposing him.

''Ah, I see. You're just shy!'' He could hear the smile in her voice.

''What?'' Hajime spoke, still turned away from Ibuki.

''That's why you ran away from those people! Why must you hide your powers like this? You could help so many of us, you know!''

''Please forget all of it.''

''You would be known everywhere for your abilities! Think of the fame it would bring you!'' She sounded exicted, too excited.

Attention was the very thing Hajime was trying to avoid. He did not crave it and certainly not fame. If this were to spread throughout the world, more people would know of his existence. They'd know that he isn't a myth, they'd know the danger of his presence. People would skyrocket, try to get his head on a silver platter, win money off of his death! The Kuzuryu family will most definitely try to search for him, with their interest in magic and all. The hunters would return him to the dungeons of Towa Province, to never again see sunlight. Maybe they'd try to use him as a weapon again. Maybe they'd ruin him even more. Hajime felt as if he was having a heart attack. His heart dropped when he heard her twist the door knob.

Hajime's eyes quickly shot red, he twisted his head upwards to lock the door telepathically. He heard Ibuki's noise of complaint before sensing her fear.

''Uh, Hajime?'' She slowly turned to face him, so did Hajime. He saw the moment she stepped back in fear at the sight of him.

''You mustn't tell anyone.'''

''Hajime?'' She took another step back.

''You can't!'' Hajime started to lose control, panic creeping up his chest. The shadows appeared once more, frantically swaying everywhere in the room they were in. They were knocking nearby objects and Ibuki looked terrified.

She ran towards him, gripped his shoulders and told him to calm down.

''You can't expect me to calm myself when you know of my powers! You don't know the risk you're putting me in-''

''I won't tell anyone, I promise! Hajime, breathe!'' She said, loosening her grip on his shoulders.

Hajime looked up, eyes wide as ever. ''Really?'' He let out in relief.

''Really.'' She reassured.

Hajime's fear diminished and the shadows left with it. ''I'm sorry.''

''Don't be, I-'' she sighed ''I should have disclosed the matter when you told me of your stance. I just thought...'' her eyes searched the room for an answer.

''A hero.'' Hajime mumbled, making Ibuki's eyes light up.

''Yes! Novoselic needs one. That monster you saw that invaded our town, it wasn't the first time!''

Hajime tilted his head, raising his brow ''You mean to tell me that it's a normal occurrence?''

She nodded her head eagirly ''Yes, yes! Ever since the remnants of despair cursed our home, creatures from all over the world pay a visit to torment us.''

The remnants of despair. Hajime shivered at the thought of them. The cruel army lead by Junko Enoshima and her sister, Mukuro Ikusaba. In his time back in Towa Province, he unfortunately encountered them, while Izuru was in full control. They promised him freedom if he'd join their cause. Their cause being to spread despair to the world. Izuru accepted, joined in on their evil deeds and left Hajime to deal with the repercussions. He hadn't known that they'd cursed this city nor the entire nation.

''I can't be your hero.'' Hajime finally answered, already feeling her disappointment.

''Why not?''

He looked at her with sorrow ''Because my powers are meant for destruction, nothing else.''

Her eyes widened for a moment before she quickly recovered ''But you saved me!''

''I could've hurt you.'' Hajime spat out.

She looked at him for a while, thinking hard. Ibuki finally spoke ''As you wish.''

Another moment of silence.

''Hajime, are you willing to explain your panic earlier?''

Hajime shook his head ''No. I'm sorry.''

''Are you in danger?'' Ibuki looked worried, making Hajime almost want to trust her.

''I suppose I am.''

''Do you have anywhere to stay? I could provide you with shelter.''

Hajime stared at her in disbelief ''You would do that for me?''

She allowed a soft smile to tug at her lips ''That's the least I could do for the one who saved me.''
Hajime hadn't realized the tears rolling down his cheeks until his his vision got blurry. He desperately wiped them away, embarrassed over the sudden vulnerability he was showing. He thought Ibuki might think him a fool to be crying like this, but she wasn't judging him. Ibuki's eyes softened before she pulled him into a hug. Hajime was shocked at the sudden embrace but did not resist it. ''Thank you.'' He hugged her back, enjoying the peace of it all. Somewhere to rest would be the best thing for him right now. Hajime wanted to forget of his problems and sleep comfortably, especially after this exhausting day.

-

The town wasn't fully destroyed but had a lot of damage. The Novoselic knights, who had finally arrived, helped the townsfolk out of the rubble. Doctors arrived to aid the people, luckily most had only minor injuries. Fuyuhiko and Kazuichi could be spotted. The scholar seemed tense, his eyes eagerly searching for something.

He must've sensed Hajime's powers. That was a problem for future Hajime. All he could think of now was Ibuki leading him to her home. She'd told him that he could reside with her and her father until he finds another place to live.

The house was rather cozy, a small cottage, surrounded by a beautiful garden. Ibuki had told her father that Hajime ran away from his parents, and was now seeking shelter. It wasn't a complete lie, expect it wasn't his parents that he was running from. The man sympathized with Hajime and was very kindhearted towards him. Atleast one thing went well today. He could try to find a job in the city, that way he could pay for his own home. Hajime didn't know how long he could stay in Novoselic but he didn't want to worry of that now.

His room was simple, quite empty with only a bed and a lamp. Then again, it was better than nothing. Hajime was eager to finally rest until a knock was heard from the front door. It's nothing. It's nothing. You're overthinking Hajime. His thoughts were frantic, blocking the noise around him. Ibuki tapped his shoulder, waking Hajime from his trance. She smiled ''You have a visitor.'' A visitor?

Hajime didn't know what to expect other than the hunters ready to capture him or the scholar who seeked the truth of Izuru Kamakura. It was neither of those. It was the chef from the Hanamura diner. His face burst into happiness when he saw Hajime at the door. He was carrying a large bag that gave off a delicious scent. The scent of food. Hajime could already feel his stomach growling at the thought of it.

''I've been trying to find you all day! I had to ask around the town for people who had seen a man in a hood. Why would you suddenly leave the diner?'' He sounded annoyed but also worried.

''Um, something came up...'' Hajime fidgeted with his hands, hoping that the chef would buy his excuse.

''Nevermind that, here.'' He handed Hajime the bag, the scent of food instantly surrounding him.

''The bag contains the special order I chose for you, a dish my mother and I make for special occasions. Oh and of course, many other foods you could share with your family.'' The chef smiled, awaiting Hajime's gratitude.

Hajime tried not to, but he frowned. ''Thank you.''

The chef grinned. ''Don't worry, the kusamochi is also there.''

At that, Hajime smiled. ''Don't do that again.'' He laughed.

''Well, you're welcome. Feel free to stop by the diner again.''

''Thank you so much, sir.''

''Call me Teruteru.'' He smiled before turning to leave.
Teruteru. Oh! The name Kazuchi spoke of at the diner. Was it possible that they were friends?

''What's that?'' Ibuki approached Hajime from behind. ''It smells so good! It can't all be for you, can it? Give Ibuki some!'' Ibuki pouted.

Hajime laughed. ''We can eat together, all of us.''

And so they did. Despite the tremendous situation he was in, he'd actually encountered some decent people. He did find them odd at first but they weren't so bad after all. Things seemed to work out in the end. Hajime found a place to live for now, food to eat and acquaintances to make up for his constant solitude. He was happy, really. He couldn't shake the feeling of something bad occurring. Hajime wondered what was going though Fuyuhiko’s head. He wondered if the reason of Fuyuhiko’s state earlier was indeed because he sensed Izuru.

But for now, he'd like to enjoy this dinner with his new friends. Even if this peace wouldn't last for long. All Hajime could do was hope, hope for a better future.
