Work Text:
McQueen was making a bowl of popcorn when Fipp came up behind him, wrapping his arms around his husband’s waist and resting his chin on his shoulder. Though Fipp did have to get on his tip-toes to do so.
McQueen giggled and looked over at Fipp. “Yes darling?”
“What movie are we watching tonight?” Fipp asked, grabbing a piece of popcorn from the bowl and tossing it, trying to catch it in his mouth but it just bounced off his nose and fell to the floor. He huffed and McQueen giggled again.
“Dead Poets Society,” McQueen said, grabbing the bowl and gently pushing his husband’s hands off of him.
Fipp raised an eyebrow, confused. “Never heard of that one.”
McQueen grinned. “It’s so good! I’ve watched it like a million times; Theodore is tired of seeing it.” He made his way into the living room, sitting down on the couch.
Fipp followed him and sat down as well. “What’s it about?”
“You’ll see…”
“That sounded ominous.”
“Don’t worry, it’s a very happy movie.”
“What are you—“ Fipp was cut off by McQueen shoving a handful of popcorn into his mouth. Fipp rolled his eyes but ate the popcorn anyway.
McQueen grabbed the remote and fiddled with it for a moment before the movie started. The beginning music played and he snuggled into Fipp’s side.
Time to see what it’s about, I guess, Fipp thought.
—————————
The movie had just ended. McQueen looked at Fipp, and suppressed a giggle at the distressed look on his face.
“THAT’S HOW IT ENDS?!” Fipp cried, gesturing his arms randomly in front of him, making McQueen duck so as to not accidentally get smacked. “DOES MR. KEATING GET HIS JOB BACK OR NOT?!”
McQueen laughed and gently wiped at the tears that had been falling down Fipp’s cheeks. “I don’t believe so, dear.”
Fipp turned on McQueen, betrayal covering his face. “You said it was happy! You promised me!” He snapped, still teary-eyed.
“I never promised anything!” McQueen protested, giggling. Fipp didn’t usually get emotional at movies, but he knew this one would garner a reaction out of him.
Fipp sniffled and hit the, now empty, popcorn bowl out of McQueen’s hands just to be petty. That got another laugh from McQueen, who bent down and grabbed the bowl off the floor.
“Neil just…Neil just fucking shot himself…and CAMERON!” Fipp yelled, offended as if this had actually happened. He then buried his face in his hands, still kind of crying. McQueen smiled sheepishly and kissed Fipp’s shoulder.
“Sorry, I did kind of lie to you…” McQueen admitted.
“Kind of?!”
“Can we at least agree that Neil and Todd are gay for each other?”
“Definitely, but that’s not what we’re talking about right now!”
McQueen bit his lip to keep from laughing even more. Fipp grumbled in annoyance and stood up. “I’m going to bed! Ryder Eden McQueen you have angered me!”
Fipp then stormed off into their room and McQueen got to his feet, small laughs escaping his lips as he followed Fipp. “C’mon, my love! I didn’t mean to—“
When McQueen entered his bedroom, Fipp was lying on the bed, facing away from him and probably pouting, though McQueen couldn’t see his face to confirm his suspicions.
McQueen gently sat on the bed as well, coming up behind Fipp and gently pushing his shoulder. “I’m sorry…next time you can pick a move that’ll make me cry. Deal?”
Fipp sighed dramatically and turned his head to look at McQueen. “Deal.”
McQueen smiled and laid down next to him, putting an arm around his waist. “Goodnight, Seymour. I love you.”
Fipp yawned. “Night, Ryder. I love you too.”
So dramatic, McQueen thought with a fond smile, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.
