Work Text:
The cool breeze cools Sethos’ hot body down. He was just running a few minutes ago, wanting to feel the wind in his hair.
He saw a familiar path, one that he and his grandfather had took many times before, before everything that happened.
The nostalgia felt like a siren's call. Sethos’ legs moved on them own, until they've reached the end of the path. It was a cliff, a cliff perfect for camping. That's what his grandfather thought too.
He laid down at the edge, his legs dangling. His hands were both at the back of his head, while he gazed into the dark vacuum called space.
His grandfather knew all about the different constellations that hung up there and talked about the stories behind them whenever he and Sethos were out camping.
That is something he will never experience again.
An ache that Sethos thought he had pushed down was climbing back up. He put his hand on his chest, just above of where the pain sat, just above his heart.
By then, tears were escaping his heart as he reminisced about the times he had with his grandfather. He tried to stop them, but failed.
And then he came to his last moments. The battle to get the second fragment of Hermanubis, which he had lost. His birthright, taken away from him. His grandfather saw it, and nothing after that.
Oh how he wishes that he could have one more day with him.
"I'm sorry..."
The dam finally broke. Months of keeping that hurt inside him made it worse. He didn't have time to grief. The change was so sudden, he hated it.
The sobs that escaped Sethos echoed in the canyons, and traveled further into the dark night of the desert, where it will stay.
He cried, and cried, until his throat couldn't anymore. All that was left was the ache in his heart and a dull throb that resonated in his bones.
The tiredness he got from it made him close his eyes. The desert could be dangerous at night, but this time, he didn't care, he didn't care at all.
What came after were his dreams about him and his grandfather spending time together, and when he woke up, tears were all that were left.
