Work Text:
The party had been in full swing as soon as Lilia and Malleus combined their magic to make the ruined and briar riddled room clear and full of music and light.
Kalim had been in awe the whole time, eyes looking everywhere as he turned all around, seeing images of people not quite there.
Not ghosts, but memories, as Lilia described his magic being. They were beautiful, stunning, and so painfully familiar to the people Kalim cared about in this room.
He could see the way that Lilia's eyes softened at the sight of a woman with features like Malleus', the kind of fondness he sees in long lost loves, or of a love long gone.
Then, there was the way that Silver looked; so beautiful and breathtakingly elegant. How he swapped glimmering silver armor for an equally dashing suit and cape for a dance floor.
Kalim had wanted to run to him then and there, in front of everyone to fawn over Silver, but he had held it back to watch his friend and boyfriend- father and son! - have their moment together, getting officially declared as father and child.
Kalim's congratulations were heartfelt, even more so to watch as Silver danced with his parents- his birth parents- a beautiful looking woman and a dashing man who shared Silver's own face.
He gave as much privacy as he could before moving with the movement of the crowd, dancing between one person and another, he ended up grasping Silver's hand for their dance.
The taller boy had been beaming the whole night, full of love and surrounded by family and friends, and now hand in hand with his love, it seemed like nothing else could be better.
How had they managed to get to this point? Was this what those stories meant by 'and they lived happily ever after?'
Kalim, for his part, was always… unsatisfied with happily ever after. What happened after that? After the evil was defeated, good overcame, and love prevailed? What about their futures?
Silver twirled him, hand resting on his waist as they danced.
A glimmering future like this, after successfully saving Malleus from himself, overcoming death, and being able to dance with those from the past- was one that Kalim wanted to be present for.
One that was full of happiness and hope, especially since Silver had never looked so happy before, but of of course not including the time that they had agreed to go out officially as a couple.
That day, Kalim could remember the way a soft pink blush bloomed on Silvers pale face as he confessed his feelings to Kalim- how he fell in love with him during their first year at NRC, how did Kalim not notice his crush was crushing back?!- how earnest he was, and that he assured Kalim that even if his feelings weren't returned, that if Kalim loved him as a friend (and he did!) then they would continue as such.
Kalim silenced him with a tackled hug that completed with a kiss.
So now, seeing Silver double that same happiness in his eyes when his feelings were returned, Kalim felt his heart become fuller.
"I'm so happy I get to see you like this for the rest of our lives," Kalim breathed, taking Silvers hand as they twirled, silvery cape flowing behind his lovers back.
Silver nodded, auroral eyes glimmering, "Mmh. I'm happy that you'll be joining my family like this, even if this… wasn't how I pictured the conversation."
Kalim already being friends with Silver's dad wasn't expected, but it sure made things easier!
"I didn't expect it, but I'm so happy it worked out this way! It means I already won him over!"
"You won me over as a friend, winning me over as his father? Khehehe, now that is something else~" Lilia's deep voice giggled and he could feel a gloved hand ruffle his hair.
But just as he looked up, Lilia was gone, grasping the gloved hand of Malleus in his new regal attire.
"… Haha, it seems you have my father to impress," Silver laughed and Kalim did too, "I'll make it work! You'll see!"
They pressed their lips together, beaming at each other in happiness.
They continued their dance, until dawn.
