Work Text:
Please,
dont forget.
I am dead.
The clothes dont need washing.
As the bed, making.
The hundreds of books with
my clawmarks on them
You can give away now (please dont)
Argued and fought so long,
like a protection charm,
They can be dusted now, the house will breathe again.
Please dont forget,
I am dead,
The plants will need water
The dogs in front of college, love
And my best friend, tears.
(if i stopped crying they would ask me who i am)
Please dont forget, i am dead
No one recognises the ghost you hold on to
the painted leaves on the wall
are more colourful than autumn gives
Please dont forget, I am dead.
The trinkets are useless.
They cradled memories, for me,
but can you afford to remember?
Some dumpster is going to gleam today.
Please dont forget mother i am dead
There is no vengeance in this world only grief
No resurrection, only forgetting
Sit by the pond i wanted to be buried in
Dip your feet in the cold green water
There is immense guilt in this world and no place for it
If you look down and see my blood on your limbs
I love you, i hope you remember to imagin its from my birth and not my death.
Mother,
Im afraid this is less about you and more
about my aching corpse
too deep under the ground
your only friends here are the maggots that make use of your flesh
Can the dead be scared of death?
Do you remember that I am gone?
Raindrops are only raindrops
untill they're heavier and warm
Tears are loved but they will only sit there
What use do i have of a wet grave?
My claws will have paper in them
My eyes the blinding dust,
Hearth marks a house but fire makes the home,
And your love
will be all the burial shroud I ever get
This anger you put in me (i was so young)
Will be the closest I'll be to being cremated
like i said i wanted to be.
(did you know? Would you have cared?)
This god will grant me neither gold nor fire
A coin for charon or a furnace to purify
No, ceatures that come from dirt have to return;
Forgive me, mother,
if a new vessel ever finds me again
my grief and guilt will not hold me,
As the stain knows the wine,
The teeth remember the sin.
