Sirius didn’t have a great day.
His boss was especially prickly and unpleasant to be around. He’d made Sirius do all sorts of tasks, cleaning this and that, and then scolded him for even the smallest mistakes. It drove Sirius nearly into insanity. He had gotten awfully close to ripping his own hair out and shoving it down his boss’ throat.
As if that hadn’t been enough already, his co-workers continued to display their general dislike for him. They had made it their mission to whisper all sorts of degrading stuff about him while he had been in earshot, words were said that we shall not repeat today. If you were curious where that hatred rooted from, Sirius couldn’t tell you. He’d been wondering the same thing all year.
Let’s not forget to crown the day with a little cherry on top. That one obnoxious regular they had, once again, tried to hit on him and he simply had to laugh the efforts off and hope the creep wouldn’t stay as long as usual (He stayed even longer than usual and Sirius could feel his intense stare on him all day). The regular is about double Sirius’ age and a couple years on top. It was as uncomfortable and unpleasant as it could get.
In order to brush past the lingering bitterness of the day, Sirius decided to take a walk through the local park before heading home. He always did love to see all the squirrels running around, dogs that chased them, and cute couples having picnics (though it also filled him with a certain dread and jealousy). Once Sirius sets foot in the park, a bad day would automatically turn into a good one.
He enjoyed his little walk to its fullest extent. At least, he did so until he heard a child wailing and crying in a volume that could probably cross the ocean and reach American soil. His noise cancelling headphones didn’t even stand a chance against the miniature set of lungs currently testing its own limits. So, he instantly halted, stopped his music, took off his headphones and scanned the area for whoever the sound was coming from. Luckily, it didn’t take long until he had detected the source of the problem.
A child. In the middle of the park. Alone.
Sirius' heart clenched merely at the sight of the distressed child. There wasn’t a single adult that paid the poor boy any mind, everyone walking past or not even looking up from their phones. Technically, he should follow the peoples’ lead, right? Acknowledging it would cause issues, rob his time, be an inconvenience.
But he couldn’t ignore the boy, not when he was so obviously lost and upset, sat in the grass with his head thrown back and sobbing at the top of his lungs. He couldn’t be older than five, bordering six. This child would not stand a chance to resolve whatever was upsetting him, unless an adult was to help him out.
And also, the entire image reminded him all too much of Harry and he couldn’t bear the thought of Harry (or that poor, lost boy, in this situation) being so distressed and helpless in the middle of a park with no adult showing remorse, interest or even the tiniest bit of empathy.
So, he made the decision (though, it was never really an option to not help). He jogged over to the small boy, crouched down and placed a hand on his shoulder, which he hoped to be at least a little bit comforting.
“Are you lost, bud?” He asked as soon as the cries stopped, probably due to the surprisement of Sirius’ arrival. The boy looked up at him with huge brown eyes, bloodshot red from the tears he had shed and his face wet with the stains. Sirius’ heart clenched at the sight of the immense distress and he silently wondered how long the boy had been crying for already.
“Do you need help?” The adult asked when no answer came to his first question. Children are sceptical of strangers, which makes sense, though if the boy was committed to not making a single sound, helping him would turn out to be a lot harder than Sirius thought at first.
Big brown eyes remained fixated on him, his expression almost unreadable. Though, Sirius knew that he was probably confused, wondering who this Sirius was and why he’d just started talking to him. While whatever gears were turning in that little head of his, the boy moved to wipe at the snot dripping from his nose, using his right sweater sleeve to accomplish said action. Sirius winced, slightly disgusted— he hated when Harry did that.
“Here, hold on,” Sirius said, pulling a couple tissues out of his bag and holding one out to the boy, “Use this instead, okay? Wouldn’t want your beautiful sweater to get ruined, right?” He added with a kind smile as the boy looked down at his sweater, as though realising the consequences of his actions. He accepted the tissue and carefully took it from Sirius’ offering hand. He blew his nose, though rather ineffectively, he sorta just wiped it clean and handed Sirius the dirty tissue back.
Sirius smiled, if a little forcefully, as he took the tissue (ew) and placed it in his bag to throw away later.
“Dada bought it. We are twins.” The boy explained shyly. Sirius nodded and smiled at him, more than happy that the boy wasn't choosing to remain silent forever.
“Your Dada has great taste. Is green your favourite colour then?” Sirius asked as he sat down criss-cross-applesauce in the grass, right next to the child.
“No.” The boy shook his head, as though the mere suggestion had been a great offense. Sirius continued smiling, filling the coming silence with words of his own. He assumed, the more he spoke, the more the kid would open up and therefore the easier it would be to find his ‘Dada’. That sounds logical. Right?
“I’m a bit fond of green, I can’t lie. But my absolute favourite colour is,” he thought about it for a second, hummed in thought and continued his sentence, “Probably black.”
“Dada says black and white are not actual colours.” The boy answers matter-of-factly. As though that was to change Sirius’ opinion. It didn’t, but nice try.
“Smart man, he is. Still my favourite though, doesn’t have to be real for me to like it.” Sirius replied easily as he looked the boy up and down, trying to find anything that would help him locate a parent. He didn’t sound like he was from around here — maybe welsh? That would mean that he’s visiting. Parents usually keep their phone number on their children when they’re visiting a new place, right? At least Lily always did that with Harry.
“I like blue.” The boy said rather unprompted, before adding, “And orange. And red. And… green.”
“Good choices there, I like those too,” Sirius nodded, ignoring that he just said he didn’t like green. Children can be contradicting. He learned while babysitting for James. He’s also learnt to just let it slide, better than starting an argument with a literal five year old.
Sirius smiled at the little boy, deciding he could try and ask for some information, since the boy had finally taken to responding to his attempts at conversation.
“What’s your name, bud?”
“Dada says I can’t tell strangers my name. It’s dang-or-us.” The little boy nervously fidgeted with the sleeves of his sweater, his voice small and shy.
Sirius hummed affirmatively, “What if I tell you mine and then you tell me yours? Deal?”
“Deal!” The little boy perked up, excitement showing clearly as his face lit up with pure joy, looking up at Sirius with big sparkling eyes.
“I’m Sirius. And you are?” When he spoke his name, he held a hand to his own chest. He followed it up by pointing at the boys’ chest when he asked for his name.
“Teddy!” Teddy responded brightly, grinning from ear to ear.
Sirius smiled at the name. It fit the tanned little boy far too well, with his mop of curly brown hair, matching eyes and suddenly bright demeanor. He did sorta look like Teddy Bear.
“Okay, Teddy. Did you get lost?” Teddy nodded, his smile dropping a little as he confirmed Sirius’ suspicion (Though it was rather obvious that the boy had been lost, why did he even bother asking anyway?)
“That’s alright, bud. I’ve gotten lost before too and I’m pretty old. It happens. Do you remember, and try to think really really hard, if your Dada ever gave you a number that should be called in this case? A phone number? Anything?” He asked, hoping Teddy would understand, possibly even know what he was talking about.
“Dada said to stay where I last saw him,” Teddy recalls, though he’s looking down at his hands and speaking rather quietly and looking awfully ashamed. Sirius has to lean in a little in order to catch what he’s even saying.
“Did you panic and wander around while looking for him?” Sirius asks quietly, in the same volume as Teddy because he knows this expression far too well from when Harry has done something he shouldn’t.
Teddy looks up, tears in his eyes and nods once again. “I lost him. I didn’t listen. He’s forever gone.” He cries, tears tracking down his chubby cheeks and Sirius can’t help himself as he pulls Teddy into a hug and rubs his back. He tries his absolute best in comforting him and is more than relieved when Teddy accepts the help, crawling further into Sirius’ lap and clinging to his shirt, wetting it with his tears. Sirius doesn’t mind in the slightest, his priority right now is to make sure that Teddy knows he’ll be alright.
“Shhh, it’s okay, Teddy. Let it out, it’s alright. You didn’t lose him, not at all, bud. I’ll help you find him. You’ll see him and I’ll be here helping you, alright? It’s okay, it’s okay,” Sirius hushes, repeating it all like a mantra. Little sobs continue to pour from Teddy’s lips, he’s clinging to Sirius, fists clenched in the fabric of his shirt. Sirius lets him, he continues to rub his back and lets him cry his tiny heart out.
Teddy’s cries continue for a while. People walk by and stare. They smile or shoot glares at the volume which Teddy is crying at. Sirius pays them no mind. He simply waits for Teddy to calm down to ask his next questions.
When he is finally quieter and only sniffles into Sirius’ shirt, Sirius pulls him back slowly and meets his eyes. He brings up a hand and wipes away a couple of stray tears on Teddy’s cheeks, smiling at him softly. When he speaks, he speaks calmly, slowly and hopeful that Teddy can help him.
“Teddy.” He starts, pushing Teddy’s hair out of his face, “Do you remember your Dada giving you a number? I have a phone, you know. We could call him.” Following those words, he pulls his phone out of his back jeans pocket, showing Teddy the device. The boy seems to think really hard as he stares at his own reflection on the phone’s black screen. His eyebrows pull together and there's barely even a crease building on his forehead. Sirius finds the expression to be most adorable.
“Dada wrote on my arm,” Teddy finally says, pulling his right sleeve back and shoving it right up in Sirius’ face. To read it, Sirius has to lean back a little bit.
A phone number.
“Teddy. This is for emergencies. Remember. Emergencies.” Teddy retells, his voice purposely deep to imitate his fathers and it makes Sirius chuckle a little.
“Is this an emergency?” Teddy then asks Sirius, staring up at him with those bright brown eyes and Sirius smiles encouragingly down at the immense hope he finds in those big eyes.
“Yes, exactly. Good job.” Sirius praises with a wide smile, ruffling Teddy’s already messy hair and then instantly getting to dialing the number into his phone. He prays for someone to pick up.
He waits. Teddy in his lap, staring up at the phone and at Sirius. He looks so hopeful, as though he was expecting his Dada to jump through the screen of the phone and greet him with a hug.
The phone rings once.
It rings twice.
Thrice.
Then, the line comes to live.
“Lupin?” A voice crackles on the other side. A bunch of background noise is happening. A crowd, Sirius guesses. The voice sounds stressed, frantic, almost desperate. A little annoyed maybe, as though he’s expecting this call to not be of importance at all.
“Uhm, yes, hello. Is this Teddy’s father?” Sirius asks, pretty much already knowing the answer but he still asks anyway, unsure of what else to say. He runs his hand through Teddy’s hair, smiling at him as he waits for an answer.
“Yes! Oh my gosh. Is he okay? Where is he?” The man asks hastily and Sirius imagines him frantically looking around wherever he is right now. It reminds him a little of when James lost sight of Harry in Disneyland once and they were both frantically looking for him. He smiles at the memory.
“He’s alright.” Sirius reassures the father instantly, “I found him in a park, he’s still with me. I’ll give him to you real quick,” He hands the phone over to the little boy who has a huge grin on his face. He accepts the phone, holding it with both of his hands right to his ear. His huge grin is unmatched and Sirius continues to run his hand through his unruly curls. Absent-mindedly, he wonders if his father also has curls like these.
“Dada!” Teddy cheers and Sirius smiles at the pure joy radiating off of the boy as he basically vibrates in Sirius’ lap. “Mhm, Sirius is with me. He found me and gave me a tissue. He has pretty hair and his favourite colour is black. Black isn’t even a colour, Dada! You taught me that, do you remember?” Sirius chuckles at Teddy’s small rant, more than happy to see him so relieved and chatty.
“Okay, Dada. Here he comes.” And the phone is back at Sirius' ear before he can really grab it. He thanks Teddy and continues talking to his father.
“Could you maybe stay with him until I get there?” The father asks, sounding a little out of breath but far less frantic than before. In that very moment Sirius suddenly recognises the accent with which he’s speaking. As assumed, it’s Welsh and Sirius catches himself thinking how awfully attractive it sounds when the man is speaking.
This is a crisis situation! Get it together, Sirius Black.
“Uh– Yeah, of course. I’ll send you our location.” Sirius responds, caught off guard by his own thoughts.
“Thank you!” And with that he hangs up. Sirius sends the promised location and then turns his attention back to Teddy, who was grinning from ear to ear. His eyes sparkling brighter than ever before.
“See? Told you we’d find him.” Teddy nods enthusiastically as he continues to vibrate with poorly contained excitement about having heard his fathers’ voice.
Teddy was just telling Sirius that all mushrooms in the entire world were poisonous, yes, even the blue ones, when they both heard Teddy’s name being called. It had barely taken five minutes for Teddy’s father to be sprinting down the park-path. Teddy jumped up from where he was still sitting in Sirius’ lap and ran towards his father and was instantly lifting Teddy up into the air, twirling him around in circles and smothering him in a bunch of kisses. Teddy giggled loudly, urging his father to stop because it was tickling.
Sirius got up with a smile, following Teddy to meet the pair. They were an awfully cute father-son duo.
“Aw, Teddy. I’m so so sorry. I lost sight of you in the crowd. Do you forgive Dada? I promise it won’t happen again.” The father asked, kissing his son’s face exaggeratedly, simply to receive a giggled Yesss, stop that! It’s okay, Dada. Sirius smiled to himself as he came to a stop in front of the two. Teddy was now placed on his fathers hip and his head resting on his Dada’s shoulder.
The father turned his attention on Sirius, who by the way, had never seen someone look this fucking good. His hair and eyes were both a beautiful shade of brown, basically matching with Teddy’s. His skin was just as tanned as his son's (if not more), shining like a delicious caramel chocolate syrup in the late afternoon sun. Sirius had to work hard to appear composed when those eyes locked onto his.
His face. Oh my gosh. Sirius might actually collapse.
His nose was all crooked, as though broken and never righted. It was an awfully good look on him. Bigger and smaller scars littered his face alongside an insane amount of freckles and Sirius couldn’t help but stare at the harmonised beauty the man’s features blessed him with. He almost forgot he was supposed to introduce himself.
“Uhm, I’m Sirius.” He said as he held out his hand, voice far less confident than than it usually would be. Sirius could basically hear James teasing over this already. Lucky for him, James wasn’t here to make a fool of him right now.
“Remus.” The man replied with a smile that pulled at the scars and fuck. Sirius couldn’t stop staring at him. He noted that Remus was wearing the same sweater as Teddy and gosh just kill him already, will you? That’s the cutest thing he’s ever seen. They were basically carbon copies of each other.
“Doesn’t he have beautiful hair, Dada? It’s so curly. And Black. His favourite colour.” Teddy added, causing Remus to smile and nod at his son’s words. His hand runs through Teddy’s curls with an awfully fond look in his eyes and Sirius could seriously melt at the cuteness of the duo.
“Very beautiful, Teds. I agree.” Remus’ eyes met Sirius’ and he couldn’t help the way his cheeks heated up a little at the eyecontact. Those brown eyes so deep and rich, he could barely even make out any pupils. He hoped and prayed the light pink hue on his cheeks wasn’t too visible. Remus’ smile will be the fucking death of him. (Yes, he’s only known him for a handful of minutes. No, he’s not dramatic. He’s absolutely valid in thinking so.)
“Thank you, again, for taking care of him. I do really feel the need to say that I don’t usually lose sight of him. We’re just visiting and I underestimated the crowds here.” Remus stated a little shamefully, as though Sirius could ever blame him for that — or anything, really. He could commit murder and he’d be forgiven with that face.
Is this what they call pretty privilege?
“Oh, please. I know what it’s like. Sometimes they also just run off to look at something and — Bam! You’ve lost them. It’s insane how quick it can happen. I get it.” Sirius explained, waving him off and hoping to lessen the guilt Remus was carrying on those beautiful shoulders of his.
“Oh, you’ve got kids?” Remus asks, adjusting his hold on Teddy as the boy quietly watches from where his head was still peacefully leaning against his fathers’ shoulder.
“No, no, I’ve just taken care of my godson a lot. Harry, his name. He’s a menace, that one. Runs, sprints, hides, it’s a whole thing. He thinks it’s funny. We don’t exactly see eye to eye on that.” Sirius chuckles nervously, hoping he wasn’t ranting and therefore ruining his chance with this handsome stranger. Though, the chuckle that he earned told him that he wasn’t screwing it up just yet.
“Have you told Teddy’s mom that you’ve found him? She must be worried sick too.” Sirius asks, looking around the place as though trying to find a mother that would turn up and ruin any chances he had left.
“Oh, I don’t-”
“I have no Mama.” Teddy interrupts his fathers sentence, “Dada only likes boys. But he doesn’t have a boyfriend because he says that all men are stupid and not worth his time. And also! No one is pretty enough.” Teddy rattles off in a manner that makes Sirius feel like he’s had a lot of talks with Remus about this exact topic.
“But Dada,” Teddy starts anew, shaking Remus’ shoulder a little and then pointing at Sirius. He was beaming, as though he’d discovered the solution to an awfully hard equation.
“He’s pretty, right? I like him. He gave me a tissue. Can you make him your boyfriend?”
Remus chuckles while Sirius feels his hope grow a little. Teddy likes him and is currently vouching for him. He can’t exactly believe a five year old is his wingman right now, but he’ll work with what he’s got.
“That’s not exactly how it works, bud.” Sirius watches Teddy’s eyebrows furrow in confusion, “Can’t ‘make him my boyfriend’ just because he’s pretty.” Remus comments with a smile, adjusting his hold on Teddy again before meeting Sirius’ eyes and oh shit, he’s got that flirty look in his eyes. Sirius feels his skin tingle at that look. “Even though I agree, he really is pretty.” Sirius’ cheeks didn’t heat and they didn’t turn even pinker. Thank you very much. Much appreciated if we could move on.
“I would like to thank you for taking care of Teds.” Remus continues and Sirius stands there, speechless, like an idiot. “Do you happen to have some time? We’d invite you to a hot chocolate — or coffee, if that’s more up your alley.” Remus shows barely any signs of nervousness, easy going and sweet tone. His hold on Teddy is secure, his hands big and Sirius has a rather inappropriate thought crossing his mind at the sight of those hands.
The roles are so fucking reversed right now, Sirius has never found himself to be the speechless one that stands there and gapes like a bloody fish.
The smile on Remus’ lips is not only friendly and soft but oh, so flirty, like he is implying it’s more than just a mere and polite thank you. Sirius’ heart beats rapidly at the amount of confidence oozing off of Remus. It's awfully attractive. Like he’s fully aware that Sirius could never decline. Sirius finds that he wouldn’t let anything stop him from accepting.
“Yes.” he replies, far too quick and instantly trying to laugh it off, rubbing the back of his neck nervously as deep brown eyes remain fixated on him. “I meant– there’s a café down the street. If you’re– If you have time right now, that is.” Sirius would like to hit himself for how awfully he had tripped over his own words just now. He chuckles awkwardly, closes his eyes, takes a breath and then tries to sound more sure of himself when he speaks again. “Hot chocolate comes with whipped cream there, I’m sure Teddy’d love that.” And as soon as the words reach the little boys’ ears, he whoops loudly and excitedly shoves at his fathers’ shoulder, who only chuckles in response.
“Dada!” Teddy exclaims, eyes bright and sparkling. “Please, please, please,” he begs, pulling the word to be extra long as though that would influence the effectiveness of the word. Teddy looks pleadingly up at Remus, as though his father would ever be so cruel to decline. It had been Remus’ idea to go drink something after all.
“Alright, Teds, we’re going, we’re going,” Remus laughs as he sets the bubbly child down on the ground with a grin on his face at his son’s excitement. He holds out his hand for Teddy to take and the younger does so without any protest. He’s beaming from ear to ear and Sirius can’t help but smile fondly at the expression. Teddy is too precious for his own good.
He’s pulled out of his adoration for the child when Remus leans down to him, speaking in a low voice, right beside Sirius’ ear.
“Lead the way?” Remus asks Sirius, almost causing the latter to fall and faint at the quiet and genuinely seductive tone Remus used. Remus’ voice was surely not for the weak. Sirius doesn’t trust his own voice and simply nods as an answer before he starts leading the way.
Sirius then thinks about how Teddy had imitated Remus’ voice earlier, talking awfully low. He’s gonna have to tell Teddy that his impression of Remus is quite spot on.
──────── ˙ ࿔ ⋆ ✮ ⋆ ࿔ ˙ ────────
As they were walking, Sirius and Remus fell into a conversational flow.
Remus told Sirius where they were from (Wales, he totally called it). They’re currently visiting London for the next month or so, since both Remus’ and Teddy’s vacation days lined up perfectly this year. They were staying with a close friend of Remus’, Pandora. Sirius felt as though he’d heard that name somewhere before, though he couldn’t quite place it.
Sirius also learns that Remus is a freelance photographer and author. Apparently, both his photography and his books are doing decently enough so that they can afford a ‘comfortable’ life. Sirius somehow felt like it was probably a bit more than just ‘comfortable’, though he didn’t voice that opinion.
And while Remus was talking, Sirius found himself more and more engulfed by him. He hung onto every word Remus said. Every little info he dropped about himself, Sirius soaked up like a sponge.
As soon as they had found a seat in Sirius’ favourite café, Sirius soon figured out that Teddy had a tendency to just talk. Which was absolutely adorable and delightful at the same time. He’d started with telling random facts, whose accuracy Sirius silently questioned. He then moved on to kindergarten and his current projects and Remus vouched for how fantastic his drawings and craftings were. Sirius even got to look at a couple, those that Remus had taken pictures of. He can confirm, Teddy is an artist in the making.
Once he had sucked all those topics dry, Teddy started talking about Remus’ past relationship.
“Aunty Dora calls him whats-his-face but his name is Benji. She called him a word I’m not allowed to say. And also a bathroom word. I can only say those in the bathroom. This is not a bathroom.” He goes on, basically already having lost the original plot. He did that a lot, starting somewhere and ending up somewhere entirely different. Sirius smiles at the habit, warming his hands on the mug in front of him.
He watches as Teddy takes another gulp of his hot chocolate and Remus smiles, though rather sourly, as though the name drop of his ex wasn’t exactly bringing up good memories. Quietly, Sirius wondered what exactly had happened between them, though he doubts it’s a good time to ask about that right now.
“Sirius.” Teddy calls, a small milk moustache on his lips that Remus wipes away with a tissue. “Have you had bad boyfriends like Dada?” He asks as the tissue wipes at his lips and causes his words to come out slightly slurred, though he seems rather unbothered by the entirety of it. Sirius waves Remus off when he sees him wanting to scold Teddy for asking such an invasive question. Sirius doesn’t think it’s a bad one anyway, so he goes to answer it.
Sirius leans in to Teddy, as though about to tell him a secret and lowers his voice while speaking. Teddy immediately leans in as well, looking at Sirius expectantly.
“I’ve never had a boyfriend before.” He confesses quietly and Teddy gasps, as though it was the craziest thing he has ever heard. Teddy responds in a similar whisper, though he doesn’t manage it to be as quiet. It’s more like.. just his regular voice volume.
“Why?” Teddy finally asks, eyes still just as big and curious as they always seem to be.
Sirius shrugs in response, leaning back a little, “No one was ever good enough to stick around.” He confesses easily. Because he has had situations. He did experience a first time and a first kiss. He had one night, two night, three night, however many night stands. Though, he never settled down on someone. No one was enough to actually stick around. No one matched him in the way he craved. James always teased him for it, calling him a playboy, but Sirius told him: if he wasn’t swept off his feet, he wouldn’t waste his time.
“Not pretty enough?” Teddy asks, as though that’s his only thing to measure by. Sirius smiles and nods, if that’s how he’ll understand, then it’ll have to do.
“Is my Dada pretty enough? You are pretty. And you are nice. I like you.” Sirius’ eyes fell on Remus, who was already staring at him with those rich, deep eyes. Their eyes met over the edge of Remus’ mug as he was currently drinking from his hot chocolate.
Sirius looked back down at Teddy.
“I also like you, Teddy.” He responded with a fond smile, meeting Teddy’s eyes. “And yes, your Dada is pretty enough.” And then, because he was feeling risky, he added: “The prettiest man I’ve ever met. And if he would like to,” Sirius started, feeling his heart beat in his chest. It was loud, louder than anyone around them. It blended out the growing crowd in the café and he wondered how neither of the Lupins had yet noticed its volume.
Sirius took a deep breath, sat up straighter, and kept his eyes trained on Remus. Slowly, Sirius lifted his finger to the edge of Remus’ mug and pushed it down, wanting to see his entire face when he’d finally get over his nerves to ask what he’s been dying to ask.
When their eyes met, Sirius felt as though Remus was staring right into his very being, reading the carvings of his soul. In return, Sirius was drowning in depthless pools, finding himself surrounded with an unfamiliar and yet awfully welcome warmth. Unspoken words hung in the air between and neither paid them any mind, both sat so unmoving and so lost in each other. It was almost as though time had stopped and the pair had discovered something far more valuable than their current reality. Emotions and sensations that could never bear to be spoken out loud, yet experiencing them held more importance than any unasked question ever could.
Only once a wave of goosebumps ran down Sirius’ spine, did he finally snap out of it and close his eyes in order to collect himself. He took a breath, a deep one, and opened his eyes. He met Remus’, who was still staring at him.
Remus had tilted his head a little, a rather smug smile growing on his lips. It was as though he could hear every single one of Sirius’ most intimate thoughts. He knew exactly why Sirius was as nervous as he was.
“Would you want to go on a date with me sometime, Remus?” Sirius asks, keeping his eyes trained on Remus’ and not shying away, not closing his eyes, not taking a single breath. In fact, he held his breath. He hoped and prayed to long forgotten gods that he could get what he wanted.
He watched as Remus’ smile grew and grew, his eyes roaming Sirius’ face, his hair, his neck and then his exposed collarbones. There was a certain desire in them, though Sirius couldn’t exactly decipher it. Not when he got distracted from the want of deciphering by the words that left Remus’ beautiful mouth.
“I would love to, Sirius.”
