Chapter Text
"But if they're something all humans are guilty of, then why do I have to die for them?" The voice didn't answer, and Millie felt a small tingle of hope. Maybe she wouldn't have to take her chances by curling up on the floor of the cavity. Maybe she could talk herself out of this yet.
"Because," the voice said, "you're the one who crawled into my belly."
Whimpering, Millie made herself as small as she possibly could in the bottom of the cavity. If she got out, she was going to make it a point to be nicer to Grandpa. He really had been good to her, taking her in and putting up with her moods and teaching himself how to cook all those vegetarian recipes.
Millie began to think fast, this was a literal life or death situation. How to persuade the bear into letting her free and just leaving her alone. "Come onnn think, think!!!" She thought to herself, and so quick enough.. she had it.
"In the spirit of the French Revolution," the voice said, "I will now do a countdown in French before releasing the blade! Un, deux, TRO-"
"WAIT, I HAVE A DEAL FOR YOU!" Millie shouted, she didn't even know she could raise her voice like that. A few seconds passed with no answer, until eventually a groan was heard and a clang outside. Millie assumed it was the makeshift blade hitting the table. She did it..!
"Hmm.. you're testing my patience, lambchop, but I'll hear you out, better make this good." The voice replied, it was clearly starting to get impatient. Now that she was given the chance, she gathered her thoughts, fixed her posture, and spoke.
"I propose.. that you let me help you.." she spoke clearly, once again it went silent for a few seconds. "Help lil' old me? And with what exactly?" The voice asked, now it was intrigued, it spoke as if a grin was spread on it's face again.
"Well.." Millie sighed."Why kill me and stay in here for the rest of your days and grow even more bored than before, when I go to a school full of equally, if not, more selfish and egotistical idiots.. I wish for their death more than mine.. and you want to kill.. the so-called mutualism could be stronger if you let me help you out.." Oh God.. she couldn't even believe what she was saying. What on Earth had gotten into her? Was she really gonna ruin the lives of others just to save her own skin? Guess it's too late to take it back now.
Gradually, the space began to rumble and shake even more intense than before. "NOW you're speaking my language! Oh, Millie, I knew I liked you for a reason! HAHAHAA!" The space shook softly. "Well then... you might get yourself a deal.. in one condition, that is."
"What is it?" Millie asked, she was worried, anxious, afraid, her stomach was in a knot, like she would throw up at any moment. But she had to stay firm, she couldn't let the bear know she was scared.
"It's very simple, Silly Millie. IF, you ever break the deal, we will continue what was left here.." He proceded to mimic the sound of a blade. "But you know you're better than that."
Millie gulped at the realization of what she just got herself into. There was no real escape was there? If she did or didn't accept the deal, she would get her head severed from her neck anyways. This was really bad. "It-it's a deal then..." she murmured.
There was a click, and the "doors" of the cavity opened wide. Before Millie could react, a cold metal hand reached in and dragged her out with surprising ease. Her legs finally touched the floor after seemingly hours of being stuck inside that horrible crammed space she first thought would be her comfort until morning. She stared up at the bear, his menacing grin and bright blue eyes sent shivers down her spine. He leaned over and dusted off one of Millie's shoulders before stretching his hand at her.
She kept staring at him for a bit but she was too scared to move or even blink, those blue eyes burned through her skull. "Come on, no deal is a deal unless there's a handshake! Don't worry. I may seem like it but I'm no devil!" The bear giggled at his own comment.
After a long pause, she slowly reached out her hand and she flinched slightly at the bear gripping it tightly and shook it. The deal was made. There was no turning back now, Millie thought she had finally dug herself out of her grave, but she just dug herself even deeper.
