Lost in the Woods

Summary:

A story about a boy who loses himself, literally and figuratively, in the woods

Notes:

This story is incomplete. If literally anyone likes it and wants me to continue, I will. It’s messy and out of order, and DEFINITELY only a first draft, but I hope you enjoy! :)

Chapter 1: The Rock

Chapter Text

Our story begins in a moonlight forest, hugging a bay with young pines as far as the eye can see. There are beautiful scarlet berries dotted on bushes only visible because of the small fireflies speaking in a language we can only dream of understanding. In a rather small clearing in this same forest there is a small boy, about the age of 10, crying on a cold, uncomfortable, wooden bench. To understand why he is crying you need to understand the concept of love. When you love somebody enough you feel strong. You feel powerful. You feel like you can do anything. But when you love somebody that much, you depend on them. They become a rock holding down the string of a balloon. If that rock ever moves, the balloon floats away. This boy has lost his rock, his hope, his happiness. The boy tried to move on of course, live his life, complete his purpose, but it was, unfortunately, impossible. It was like there was a black hole in his stomach, pulling every smile back down to a frown. He became cantankerous and angry more often. He sat there in those woods for hours until he had become part of the forest, his tears growing the vines that consumed his nearly-lifeless body. He was so absorbed in his own emotions that he almost didn’t notice the sudden bright light approaching his small bench. Almost. It was just like the moon, traveling slowly towards the boy's throne of grief, growing brighter and brighter with every second it traveled. The boy wasn’t afraid, per say, it was more of a curiosity. The light seemed warm with purity. It was almost blinding by the time it reached him but then, quiet, dark. The boy was still rooted on the wet bench but was now traveling millions of miles a minute in his own mind, previously a locked jail cell, but now a speeding metro. It was only a minute of chaos, of freedom before his mind went black once again.
