Chapter 1: give yourself a try

Chapter Text

GIVE YOURSELF A TRY

"Good luck!" Your mom said as you got out of the car. You wave and beam a smile at her as you close the door behind you.

You turned around to see your beloved school, Katagiri High School. Taking a deep breath, you start your tracks towards the shoe-changing area. It was quite noisy, people greeted you from here to there. You then checked the bulletin board for the respective classroom you were in. Class 2, huh? Your gaze turned to the students excitedly scanning their classes on the bulletin board. You slowly started parting ways from the crowd and headed towards the student council room.

You could hear a faint conversation coming from the room. Knocking beforehand, you then slowly slid open the door. There stood a guy with red hair and two girls-one had pink hair, and the other had green. What an odd trio, you thought. "You must be Shimizu." The red-haired guy spoke. "Indeed," you said and smiled at them.

You slowly entered the room, and the pink-haired girl rapidly approached you. "I'm Ayasaki Remi! Which class are you from, Shimizu-chan?" She excitedly took your hand and shook it around. "I'm Shimizu Hanako, from Class 2." You smiled and took her hand to reciprocate her energy as well.

"This is Sengoku, our president! And this is Sakura!" You bowed at them and smiled. "I'll be in your care, President." He gave a bow and smiled in return.

Sengoku then started a short orientation for the role of a council member, stating some work that each position has to take responsibility for. You couldn't help but feel quite happy to be seated beside Sakura and Ayasaki.

Ayasaki was a chatterbox and was barely listening to what Sengoku was saying, while Sakura often shushed her when she became too loud, then Sengoku would deadpan at them. It was interesting.

"Shimizu, are you free for lunch? Let's go buy early so it won't be jacked!" Ayasaki said. "Oh yeah, it's best we buy something as early as possible. It'll surely be packed given that it's the first day," Sakura added.

"I'll have to get my schedule from my classroom first. I might take a while," you sheepishly said. "No worries! We'll wait outside," Ayasaki exclaimed. "Okay then." You smiled at the both of them.

After the brief explanation Sengoku gave, the three of you walked through the hallways, nearing your classroom. Sengoku had to deal with some president matters, so he couldn't join in. What are those three? It's like two swans with an ugly duckling! You heard someone gossiping from behind.

You raised a brow and saw Sakura's head lower down a bit. Why in the world would they say that? You thought and turned your head to those guys with a blank stare, then turned away shortly.

You paced up and slowly sprinted towards your classroom door. "Please wait for a bit!" You said to Sakura and Ayasaki as they nodded. You then saw your class bustling with energy and liveliness as you headed towards the teachers' table for the schedule.

"Oh, Shimizu! Long time no see!" You turned around and saw one of your classmates from the second year. "Oh, hey! Nice seeing you as my classmate again." You smiled at her as you picked up the schedule paper. "I'll see you around!" She waved as she passed by with her friends. You waved back and glanced at your schedule.

Suddenly, a loud voice passed by you-could be louder than a speaker, you assumed. You didn't look up to see who it was, but he sure did have a lively and energetic voice. You made your way outside and met with Ayasaki and Sakura. "Sorry to keep you waiting!" You exclaimed and started walking with them.

After buying food with Ayasaki and Sakura while chatting a bit, you went back to your classroom to learn and adjust to your new class. It sure is a lively atmosphere here, you thought. While wandering your eyes around, you could see small groups of people gathered and laughing together. Smiling at the sight, you plopped your head on your arms and looked towards the window, met by the blue sky-you wondered when it would be your turn.

'Hey, who do you think will be the top student in our class?'

'It's definitely Shimizu. I've been her classmate since the first year, and no one has outdone her yet'.

'Ehh? Do you think Hori would surpass her?'

'No way! Both of them are smart! Besides, we're not in the same class as Hori'.

You heard a group talking a bit too loud, and you ended up eavesdropping. Hori? Who's that? You wondered. From there, you realized you really don't know anyone at all. This left your mind in a daze as you spaced out, gazing at the blue sky.

'Shimizu.'..... 'Shimizu? ' .... "Shimizu!"

You sat up and panicked as you turned to the person who called out your name. "Yes! Sorry, I spaced out a bit," you nervously said, your hand scratching the back of your neck.

"Spacing out isn't good. Anyways, we chose you as our PE representative. That's fine with you, right? We decided we shouldn't give you too much work since you're in the council now."

Your class representative, Sayaka, gave you a paper to sign your name and approval of becoming the PE rep. "Ah, sure! No problem! thanks for the consideration, Sayaka." You smiled at her and wrote your name with your signature in it. "Thank gosh you approved. Anyway, we'll fill you in with further updates, thanks!" Sayaka smiled at you as she left the classroom.

You then gazed towards the window and the blue sky looming outside. Your mind went back to the paper you signed, and you remembered there was a male representative. He had quite a funny signature, What was his name? Shiro? Shota? While trying to think hard what the male PE rep's name was, you only took a glance, but for sure you knew his name started with 'Sh.'

Shortly after your zone-out, the subject orientations began, and the first day wrapped itself up quite quickly. That wasn't so bad. I hope I can do well next time. You thought, walking towards the exit as you depart from the shoe-changing lockers. You take out your phone to see if your mother had sent anything throughout the day since she went on her business trip right after she dropped you off.

"Ishikawa, hurry up! you're gonna make all the burgers sold out if you don't get that ass moving!"

"Shut up before I can throw this shoe at you, Shuu!"

The shouting voices sprinted past you as their speed made a breeze of wind. This left you unfazed and continued gazing at your phone, not knowing a certain green-head caught his eye at you.

────────

"Ishikawa, who was the girl we passed by earlier near the shoe lockers?" A certain green-head questioned as he munched into his burger.

"What girl?" Ishikawa asked and deadpanned at him.

"You're making me look crazy! There was seriously a girl who was on her phone while we were shouting!" He slammed his hands onto the table, starting to get terrified.

"Who knows? I didn't see any girl nearby when we left the shoe lockers." Ishikawa said bluntly, and the green-head felt as if his soul left his body. Had he seen a ghost from those lame stories made by the seniors back then?
