Only Me in Your Mind

Summary:

Erendir’s patience has worn thin with Freuden after so many of his lunches with Lynne.

Notes:

I actually passed an exam I was worried about, so I gave myself writing time as a treat. Nevermind that its way past February.

Work Text:

Erendir growled. Loud enough, in fact, that some of the other students sitting outside looked at her strangely. It didn't matter what they thought of her, though. It wasn't like they'd ever dare to approach her anyway.

She looked across the meadow. Lynne was looking at some type of bird, up in one of the oak trees. She smiled, softly.

My first friend. And… She touched her heart. Something more…

And now that bastard Freuden wanted to steal Lynne away from her. Ugh, the thought of it made Erendir want to put a fist through the wall. Or his face. The nerve to act all high and mighty when he was just getting in her way, where did he get it? She scowled.

"Erendir?"

"Wha— Ah, Lynne!" She hastily took her face out of the frown it had been in. She hadn't even seen her come over, but here she was, looking down at where Erendir was sitting.

"Is something bothering you?"

"No, no, it's alright." Damnit, she hadn't been fast enough to cover it up.

Lynne laughed. The sound was like a little silvery bell chiming in the air. "Are you sulking back here?"

"No," Erendir mumbled, turning her face away in embarrassment. Hopefully Lynne hadn't seen all of her temper tantrum.

"You don't have to worry about Freuden, you know," she said, giggling. "He's been very kind to me, but we're not like that at all."

"He wants to be," she groused. "He talks to you way too much. What gives him the right to be up in your business so often, anyway?"

Lynne smiled. She was picturesque like this, hair down and eyes bright. Especially with the sun and blue sky behind her. Breathtaking.

"…listening to me?"

She snapped out of it. "Huh? Sorry, what?"

"I was saying, don't worry. He and I often talk. But…" she leaned over and pecked Erendir on the lips. "…this is reserved for you, only."

Erendir thought her heart might beat out of her chest. It felt like that everytime she got a kiss from Lynne. It was like she had casted fire and light and water spells all on her heart at once.

"So don't be too mad at him, alright?" said Lynne.

"Yeah, I guess I'll stop thinking about punching him in his stupid face," said Erendir, relieved and annoyed and ecstatic all at once.

Lynne laughed. It was a beautiful sound. As if the gods above had blessed Erendir's ears.

"Yep. Stop thinking about Freuden, and come lie on the grass with me. Don't worry; I brought food this time."

Erendir smiled, and stood up to kiss her too. "Sure, let's go."
