Chapter 1: A Never-Ending Dream

Chapter Text

A quiet night is how it really started, doing the same thing they usually do when they are meant to be "sleeping." Which is gossiping about the other toons and enjoying each others company in silence. Deep in Dandy's place down a couple elevators was rooms dedicated to the mains and which the lowest room was Astro's. Away from all the noise and annoying toons that wouldn't bother to keep peace and quiet around Astro was far away. In Astros room was of course Astro himself and Vee his girlfriend. The only toons who knew about their relationship was most of the mains, Dandy, and a couple of eavesdropping nuisance toons. They weren't exactly public about their relationship due to being mains and not wanting to cause any type reputation to Dandy's World. So they kept to themselves the best they could, but with these pairs of lovers maybe being so quiet and secretive was a good thing, for them at least.

"Astro." Vee lifted her head up from staring at the floor for a little while, and carefully turned it towards Astro trying not to hit him in the head by accident with one of the corners. She made she was able to see all of Astro's adorable sleepy face. "I forget how cute you are when your tired." Vee giggled bringing a hand up to rest on Astro's face.

It was the first thing said in about a couple hours. It was odd breaking the silence with only a word, a name. What could have she possible wanted to say his name and then call him cute?

"Vee? What is it my dear?" Astro blinked slowly, he stretched out his irregular four arms from being tightly wrapped up in a blanket all day. He leaned into Vee's touch it was cold due to the metal, but comforting at the same time. He snaked one of his four arms around Vee's shoulder resting it there.

"You know how you can go into the other toons dreams when they are sleeping and just.. give them what they been dreaming of? No pun intended." Vee snickered at the end of her response. She'd hoped to give Astro just the right idea for what she's been wanting for a while now.

"You mean you want me to go into your dreams? But whenever I try there's simply nothing there my dear." Astro slouched over and sighed, he always wanted to go and let Vee dream but he could never find out why he couldn't.

"Exactly what I'm talking about!" Vee jumped a little in excitement, she calmed herself down and placed her hands on one of Astro's legs. "I want you to help me be able to actually dream for once!" Vee gave Astro that smile when she really wanted something to be done.

Astro only gave a small sigh back, he didn't know what to do whenever Vee was "sleeping." He tried so hard every night when she would turn off and charge herself to be able to go up to her and let her dream. But this time he was sure to let her dream.

"Vee can you turn the back of your head towards me?" Astro waited for her to comply, he wasn't sure if this was going to work at all since Vee's only shown Astro this part of her once.

Vee turned the back of her head towards Astro, she had full trust in him that whatever he was doing it would only help her get the chance to dream. Astro worked his way through the dark using his astronomical powers as a light source to find what he was looking for. He eventually found a power box on the back of Vee's head that blends in pretty well in the dark. He carefully opened the box by flicking something open on the side of it, looking inside was a switch glowing bright red right in his face. The switch on the top said "POWER ON" meanwhile the bottom of it said "POWER OFF." This was exactly what he was looking for, the thing that would hopefully help Vee dream. He gently caressed the sides of the power box his fingers grazing the switch.

"Vee, would you like to dream?" Astro leaned in from the side, his hand still lingering by the power box in Vee's head. His other hand was pressed against the bed with his two other arms.

"You really mean it Astro?" Vee's face light up slightly brighter emanating a cast of a green light onto the wall of Astro's room ahead of them.

Astro nodded leaving the side of Vee with a whispered 'Yes.' Astro carefully let two fingers touch the top of the switch itching to turn it off. He wished her a goodnight and flicked the switch so that the red light would turn a gray-ish red. Vee fell over in seconds her body landing onto Astro's bed. Astro looked down at Vee's limp robotic body, his eye widened in shock obviously he didn't know if it was really going to work or not but if it didn't work he would flip that switch back on. But would he really want to do that? Astro carefully leaned back in the bed using his two other arms to drag Vee with him and lay back. He rested Vee on his chest and hummed a quiet tune he waited a few seconds before shutting his eyes and hoping to see the chance to let Vee dream.

As Astro looked around in this world? Whatever it was he searched through all the toons different dreams looking for the one of his beloved. After nearly giving up all hope he had it flickered. In the darkest parts of this place a small light shined through like the sun coming through the clouds was there. He ran towards it carefully holding in his first branch of arms. It was Vee, but the dream only casted just black and nothing else was inside the dream and he was left confused even though he was able to connect with the dream world. He had forgot he can edit and chance toons dreams but normally something would be already happening. This was a different case. Astro took all of the power he could and molded the perfect dream for Vee. It was really happening he had created the perfect dream for Vee! and also made one of her biggest wishes come true. As he left the dream world he couldn't help feel guilt, he knew Vee wanted to dream but he didn't know how long she wanted to dream for if given the opportunity. When he returned to the regular world he told himself that he would turn Vee back on in exactly six hours. Six hours he kept repeating, six hours.. six hours... six hours, six hours, and six hours, but something was wrong.

Six hours turned into six days, into six months, then six entire years. Vee had been powered off for six years straight and nobody knew unless HE did. Astro knew he was horrible for doing such but he didn't want to wake her up she looked so happy. She wanted to dream and he didn't want to ruin that chance for her so he knew he didn't want to power her on again. As these six years went on so did a lot of changes, the ichor incident. Astro's entire body was different now, he had stretched out badly and looked like a ghost with how pale the ichor has made him. His eye was a bright red along with the star he had, and ichor stained certain parts of his body making him look worse. Vee was left unaffected due to never leaving Astro's room in six whole years. If she was powered on now he knew that if she found out she would leave Astro and he didn't, and never wanted that to happen. So he never ended up waking her up and let her keep on dreaming endlessly.

Astro approached the end of his bed looking down at Vee's limp body, he cried endless tears wanting to her her again but he knew that he just couldn't. Astro turned away wiping his ichor tears with one of his hands and stared at himself in the mirror ahead. "She wouldn't want to see me like this."
