"Do you think... would Freedom be a weird name for a dragon?"
Is one of the last things the small orange and green dragon remembered asking...and the small comfort of reassurance from Luna and that her torment will finally end
"SO WHY IN THE THREE MOONS AM I STILL HERE"
Freedom hissed, she was so tired. She wanted to rest, not continue her half existence...and if she's still her then what about Him? No no no if she's still somewhat alive then he has to be as well. What if he hurts her again...what if he hurts Dusky and Luna...no no no.
"What seems to be the matter, little dragon?"
Freedom pauses her spiral...what who? Her tail pauses its lashing and her wings flare as she glances around and she holds her head out and puffs out her chest to look more intimidating. It didn't matter how light or soothing that voice may sound. That voice belongs to a stranger...and a human at that no less.
"I'M NOT LITTLE! Where are you anyway!"
A small laugh in the wind could be heard. It didn't sound like the mocking ones cottonmouth would have upon seeing the little dragon in misery. It was more of…she is unsure…like the laughs in the memories she saw of the other dragons…the ones she and Dusky briefly shared once he stopped fearing her in the mind space.
"My apolgies, it seems i was mistaken"
A short human girl? Boy? She wasnt sure had jumped down from the tree a few feet away. Their face discustingly soft. Like luna's mushy face when she is with the dragons she cares about. Like in that one memorie when blue was sick. She is unsure how to feel about it. It makes her webed leaf shaped spines flare up and she lets out a hiss.
"Yes you were"
Venti just gives her a some what sad smile. He can tell this soul has been dead for quite some time. And seems quite tormented and longing to break free of it's chains. Its a painfull when someone dies before they know peace...expecally children.
"Yes your clearly a strong dragon."
That caught Freedom off gaurd...a human of all things calling her a string dragon. She didnt feel very strong. She was tired. She hated this softness. She...she snorts lashing her tail and glaring at the stranger
"Are you blind ofcorse im a strong dragon!"
“...I suppose I was for a moment…do forgive this bard this once?”
That unsettled Freedom more…this human was asking for forgiveness. Three moons this was weird.
______________
She doesn't know why she decided to follow this human. Maybe because he felt safe? Like Luna…no no no he was a human. She was following him because he knows the area of this new place. And once she has what she needs she’ll ditch him before venti can do anything.
Venti hums seeing the small ghost huff and shakes her head. It would be amusing if not for the distrust and heavy hurt that he can see weighing on her soul.
“Eh, I just realized we never exchanged names. I'm Venti the bard. May I have the honor of knowing your name, mighty dragon?”
That snapped the small dragon out of her thoughts and she blinked and looked up, puffing herself up to look taller.
“Freedom”
“Hm?”
“My name is Freedom you fool, you asked for my name and i gave it to you”
Venti was surprised but also felt a strange sense of pride at the small dragon being named after the ideal he represented. It's not a name one would normally have…he supposed it might be from wherever she was from after all the ghost is an outlander. But he suspects that's not the case, especially with how heavily shackled her soul was.
“What? Why are you staring at me like that!”
Venti hummed as he crouched down in front of freedom with a small smile.
“Nothing, your name is quite amazing."
Freedom huffed, spreading her wings and holding her head up high in pride. Of course Freedom was an amazing name, it was chosen by her after all…she will ignore the strange twinge of relief and comfort that it seems to give her that this human liked her name like Luna had.
“Of course it is, I picked it after all.”
Venti smiled and resisted the urge to pat the ghost on the head. Freedom reminds him of some of his children. He supposed that just made him wish to help this soul even more....even if it shouldn't have been in tayvat in the first place.
“Is that so? Then it must be true. If you like your name so mutch im sure you’ll love mondstadt.”
“....mond…stadt?”
