A Boom in Tourism

Summary:

Sight Seeing for Superboy Prime becomes more of a painful memory of another.

Read Superman #37 (2026).

Notes:

Happy Anniversary to one of the hardest deaths in comic history. This is the quickest wip I've dropped in a server and was moved here because I love that group of nerds. Also, if you haven't read Superman #37, I'm not saying it's a spoiler, but this thing kind of inspired it. Whatever. On with the show!

Work Text:

It's normal, completely normal to sight see. Given the chance, anyone would do it if they were just a big enough nerd. People do it for movie scenes and historical sites, so why would people judge that CK would visit famous locations from comics he read? Totally normal. Anyone would do it.

He's checked out Crime Alley, which is one of the most important locations in comic history. The same with the crash landing where Superman's rocket hit. But here in Gotham? It's different. It's gritty and always smell of smoke. CK knew the lore about the city, but it always felt weird. He's not the big Batman fan like he was for Superman, but he's still here checking it out.

He's here for research, not superhero business, so CK was sporting one of his nerd apparel shirts and some jeans. That bright look on him really stuck out like a sore thumb on the streets of Gotham, but he's a tourist. He didn't expect him to really blend in.

It's different. He knows how to keep away from the villains and the famous bats that patrol the city. This was daytime. This was Signal's domain right now. Though, he didn't see or hear any distress nearby so maybe he was in the clear. He wouldn't jinx himself, he knows better. He knocks on a piece of wood that's leaning against one of the run down buildings on the street just in case.

His eyes catch a drifting newspaper that travels freely in the wind. The date, April 27. Any nerd would know what that meant. He took a breath and decided to go next on his little journey through Gotham City.

It's not a far walk from Crime Alley. While he travels, he gets to see a few other infamous spots he recalls seeing in the comics. There's the Big Belly Burger that Scarecrow attacked that one halloween. That old building was the front to Falcone once. Man, the comics back in the 90s were great, but that doesn't mean he didn't like the newer events that had happened.

There it is. Gotham City graveyard. Well, one of them. Too many people have died in Gotham since the villains here were insane and probably ten times worse than many cities. Still, this is the destination he wanted to be at today. Today was an anniversary, if CK could recall right.

The tombstone still stands? That was something CK didn't expect to see. Here he thought everyone knew that Jason came back. Sure back in those early issues, Batman couldn't figure out why, but the proof stands right in front of the gravestone. CK would have laughed if he knew that he brought back the kid that people his parent's age voted to get killed. He hadn't checked if the viewers were a fan of that lately. He hoped that he did well with that.

The fuck? That's the first thing that came to Jason's head when he saw someone standing near his grave. The only ones who knew him were kind of dead or didn't give two shits about him. Those who weren't part of those two sections were probably at Wayne Manor doing something. So who the fuck was praying for him?

He stays, that's the plan. He keeps his distance trying to figure out the stranger. He couldn't tell from the street. The bypasser was standing his back to Jason. The roar of his bike didn't break the guy's concentration, so he must be praying pretty hard then. That's when he had the idea.

He takes his helmet off and kicks the stand on his bike before getting off. He's going to see who this dumbass was. Doubt a friend. Still, he heads over and carries the helmet against his side. He doesn't make eye contact with the stranger, but he could tell the guy wasn't that hold, probably his age. Maybe a friend back from the streets? Doubtful.

"Kinda sad, ain't it? Heard the kid died from smoke inhalation." Jason mutters seeing if he could get the other to talk.
